Reviews & Reactions - Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster: Next Generation
MickeyD replied to ejpdtd's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Aragog has been hanging there for ages, in the dark and as far as I am aware there is no power connected to it either sorry. Frankly, the ride sucks so bad at the moment it's just embarrassing. I don't even like to go on it anymore and hope some improvements are on the way soon. -
Hopefully Greg will help reverse certain stupid decisions like putting Cages on the logs and Nooses on the Disc'O.
-
From what I have read, that is the main complaint about Smugglers- the ride experience really depends on the effectiveness of the crew and the way you have to position yourself, pressing buttons to your side, while hanging on and looking forward is all pretty jarring on your back. It is probably the single most sophisticated Video Game ever built. I thought there were 2 but apparently there are 4 separate (circular) systems - each with 7x 6 seat Simulator Cars attached. Early calls are hoping they will modify at least 1 to allow for a more "auto-pilot" style ride experience that would accommodate People with special needs such as Disabilities and also those too old or too young to otherwise play the game and 'ruin' the experience for others. Considering how much testing this ride has undergone (months and months) it is going to have some massive teething problems it would seem.

Surprising to see it featured in mainstream channel 7 news tonight, but wow how fecking good does it all look? !! The Animatronic in Smugglers Run Preshow Q area is flawless - I had to point out to my Partner that he is actually a Robot.. SERIOUSLY Super impressive stuff! Speaking of impressive (SPOILERS AHEAD!) -I love how the MF ride system l consists of 2 giant rotating circles, each with a dozen or so Cockpits that are attached. Passengers board from within the Circles, with the MF Cockpits all facing outward toward the Giant Screen space that expands beyond the tubes that the Gondolas traverse. Depending on how well the crew go in their mission, the MF is either saved or 'destroyed' as they Exit. It's apparently pretty hard to take in all the visuals while participating in your active role, which I guess will make the experience highly repeatable. AND TO THINK, this is considered to be the more 'minor' of the experiences. "Rise of the Resistance" will be an absolute game changer for Disney, let alone the Theme Park Industry so happy to head over once it opens in a few months time.

I am no Engineer but I'm not Stupid either. Frankly, neither is the Park's new Op's Chief -why I am hoping these Stupid Cages will be coming off soon, before someone cracks their head, or worse.

The Geyser part of this ride has been needing love for years now.. Cracked paint, peeling concrete and piles of leaves are issues that have persisted since the late 90's when the ride was still young..
-
I too have been watching all this with baited breath for years and to think.. now here we are standing on the precipice. If you're not up with it all, can I suggest you head over to Miceage, Screamscape, Disne and More, Blooloop etc .. then come back in a few weeks once you have caught up. It'll do you good.
-
.. and where is the Carpark going for all this? Assuming they are planning something like Disney with a multi level Car Park?
-
I just read this on Screamscape, thought it was worth sharing given the similarities surrounding an apparent pump failure that appears to have caused the accident. Now picture if this happened on DW's Logride with it's in-house built roll cages. Based on this scenario playing out, do you think the Cages would do more harm or good? If it did, I think DW would have more blood on their hands.. CASTLE PARK (California) Park News - (5/27/19) An unfortunately accident happened at Castle Park the other day as a malfuctioning water pump on the parks log ride apparently lowered the water level in the splashdown pool. This allowed for a log to pass through a lot faster than intended and rolled over as it hit the u-turn at the end of the splash-down run, ejecting three riders… two adults and a child, who were taken to a local hospital due to injuries. Thankfully, according to follow-up reports none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

If SW get their new ones open on schedule we will know that is just not the case..

Wow haha Wipeout style ride? Too funny! Not sure if this is just an early rendering but the Woodie looks pretty lame?

Bermuda Triangle was replaced years ago Push, please get over it. And the Skyway was a Cable Car by definition, with carriages that featured 4 x grouped semi-enclosed Cabooses - not flimsy open air Ski Lift 'chairs' like what was at Dreamworld, THAT was a Chairlift. In fact, the very same one that was bought off Magic Mountain from Nobby's Beach, after years of it sitting derelict in the Ocean Air and no doubt bought for next to nothing.

$21? That's a bit rich Movie World! .. and to think, the Person who makes it earns about half that per hour after tax! 🤔

Dreamworld Winterfest
MickeyD replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Not sure if this has already been mentioned but Dreamworld has done a successful Winter experience that was held way back around 1993' (from best I can remember.) The Ice Skating rink was placed over the shallow pool in the Village green area, roughly between where KFPanda and the Carousel sits today. "Winter at Dreamworld" was the working title from memory and naturally the experience was included in regular admission. Hopefully this time around the ice skating will be featured within the big shed along with lighting and other atmospherics. -
A more detailed inspection involves x-ray like equipment that is passed over the entire track from a cherry picker to detect cracks in the track and welds. To my knowledge that is something that only gets carried out so many years, is a lengthy process and not one that is required so frequently.

WTF I was hoping for some actual SV opening news? Guess Dreams are at least still free ..
-
I most certainly hope they don't do anymore makeovers in their current financial situation @Skeeta After the "spectacular" effort on SDSC I would much rather they leave our beloved rides alone with just essential maintenance only, at least until such time they can get their priorities in order.

Consentino Live at Dreamworld
MickeyD replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Original, you are referring to the 'Serpent Slayer' show that ran the Xmas Season that Bermuda Triangle was delayed. For a night show, at the time it ticked all the right boxes. Lots of Pyros, Fire, music, live action on the Lake and Lasers. For a cheap inspiration of Disnelyand's Fantasmic! it was actually pretty bloody good! Shame about the dreadful Martin Mowlam narrative, for those out there old enough to get me😊 I liked SS but personally thought we did a better job with Illuminanza and the latter Batman Live shows at MW. Some had the best Fireworks displays ever seen in a GC Theme Park. -
Movie World April Update
MickeyD replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Thanks for the pics and video! A timely reminder to any local passholder to avoid these places right now! WWF being closed at the moment is pretty piss poor. Its still hot on the Coast and with Crowds like this, they need to be aiming for all rides open. Especially with having GL down. But given Village no longer regard DW as true competition, they only have themselves to be held accountable. -
Dreamworld April Update

Looks great - and very much ready to open! Thanks for the pics😊 -
Cheap if you are eating in sushi bars and sleeping in capsules most of the time. Even basic accommodation that can barely squeeze 2.5 is at least 250/300 a night. And that is in somewhere like Shinjuku- miles away from Tokyo Bay. Let's face it. If you are going to Japan to Disney with Children you need to be close to the doorstep if you have any hope of experiencing some of the best attractions without having to wait hours at a time.. yeah, sounds like the perfect Holiday with small children to me🤔

This might just be the "outside of the box" thinking DW needs right now but money aside, DW needs a solid plan (short/mid/long term). They haven't been able to commit to anything in Christ knows how long and having a solid direction and delivering on the timeline is vital in getting them out of their current shitstorm. - Get SV open and KEEP IT OPEN. - Get a temporary Ride like a KMG in the old Wipeout spot STAT and keep it there until something more permanent can be sourced. - get the Koala wildlife thing open as quickly as possible. Animals at DW are one of the Park's best assets and the only part that is actually ran properly. - Red flag any rides that continue threatening reliable Operation and spend/invest where worthwhile (ToT) and ditch where not (Buzzsaw, log ride) - keep everything else running and invest the right amount of money in what is worth keeping. - Build that kick arse new Coaster.
