Yeah Gazza I had heard about that. But I'm talking about in Australia, in our WB Movie oriented theme park. It just seems weird to me. Harry Potter is arguably bigger than Superman or Batman and certainly bigger than Lethal Weapon (although I'm aware that LW was long before Harry Potter). I just think it's a perfect opportunity. We all know how good WVTP is at theming rides and something like HP has huge potential. I know not everyone is a fan of HP but at least there would be a coaster at the end of it.

I've always thought that MW could easily theme a coaster around the Harry Potter franchise. I would imagine Quidditch or the Triwizard tournament could be done really well, especially after seeing that pic of Dæmonen above. What do you guys think? It actually surprises me that we only have a small shop and a temporary attraction from such a major WB franchise.

I'll post my response to the blog here because it's unlikely it will be on the blog page for very long: "Wow...Let me start by saying that as I work for WVTP, I'm biased. Also this post will seem entirely negative, because it is. 1. I don't think you can claim kids areas in theme parks as being Australian firsts. MW, WnW and SW all have kids areas. Seaworld also has superior animal attractions to Dreamworld. Tiger island may have come first but Polar Bear Shores and Shark Bay etc are much better. I'm also concerned about the truth of this, considering several people on the parkz.com forums have commented that they've been on this same attraction at other events around the country. 2. Lots of roller coasters in theme parks = boring...When did that happen? I agree with Paul, if the rides were sufficiently themed, something that WVTP excels at, that would help to differentiate between rides allowing for a variety of experiences. 3. It's never a good idea to insult the general public. We all know what 'demographics' means. 4. Can't the entire park operate outside normal hours? Screamworld and NYE etc. If not, come to WVTP! 5. The blog doesn't explain why you chose V8 Supercars, only that you wanted an iconic brand to exploit to promote your park. You could do that with a Dreamy Donuts outlet in the park and flyers at their kiosks around the country.

It's in the scroll bar and under the 'Choose an Attraction menu."

Sea World, Movie World and Wet'n'Wild are all open every day throughout the year except Christmas Day (Restricted trade on ANZAC Day). I know from experience that Christmas Eve is the quietest day over the holidays and boxing day is almost the busiest. New Year's eve is also very busy at WNW and it's mostly just luck after Christmas, and by that I mean whether you get 7500 people or 10000 people, everyday will be crowded. If you're coming to WNW then dive in movies are now every saturday before christmas and normally every night after christmas (although they changed the schedule this year and I haven't seen a list for after christmas yet, so maybe double check with guest services).

Doc Brown, I'm beginning to think you broke out of the Arkham Asylum last week... And using the same avatar as Gazza to try to fool people is unlikely to work... About the coaster, I agree. It looks like Superman painted brown and with the building removed. Where Tornado and Kamikaze are similar but with different experiences, this looks like the same ride with the same experience.

The MyFun website has added a Jet Rescue section: Join the Sea World Rescue team on an exciting mission to save our precious marine life on the all new Jet Rescue coaster. Climb aboard your Jetski and zoom around the amazing track, flying and twisting past pristine rock pools at an exhilarating 70km/hr. Then enter the dark and dangerous blowhole cave where a sea lion waits desperately for your help. Blast through the cave and release the pressure, allowing the majestic sea lion to escape to safety. Then return to Sea World as marine rescue heroes. Join the rescue mission today – we need your help! Sounds great! I'm loving the blowhole cave idea... There is also a new bit about Ray Reef which mentions an opening date of the 15th of December -
Halloween Family Fun Night (Review - 30-10-08)
cerberus584 replied to BNErider's topic in Theme Park Discussion
No my face was white, black eyes and lips and blood dripping from eyes and lips as well. I'm told it's the best I've ever looked at work. A few of my friends were painted as the joker though. Some of us were still painted around the eyes the next day, that paint is hard to get off. -

Right on Mad Hatter. You've gotta have Churros! Hi to anyone who may have visited me on the Churros cart next to the stage on Friday night. Just for reference I've heard that there were 7,500 guests in the park on Friday. -

Wasn't there a few doctors? Were you the one we got photos with on Main Street afterwards...eating our brains out??? -
I was meant to work Wednesday and Thursday but got called off...So I went as a guest! It was a really great night. The Fright Zone was brilliant, my friends were shaking. Ian, were you the guy at the entrance with the huge gash on the side of your face? The roof looked great with all the lights and smoke and the band was really good too. I'll be there tomorrow night working, should be heaps of fun! Finally, did anyone think the smoke smelt really good...a bit like Churros?
-
What I meant was ticket sales for Wednesday night (tonight) were low. As far as I'm aware tonight is the only night that shifts have been cancelled.
-
According to someone in management ticket sales for tomorrow night are not as high as had been anticipated and shifts are being cut back / cancelled accordingly (mine included). If anyone is planning to go it would be a good idea to book online so that if numbers are going to be higher there will be time to get the staff back on the roster...

I don't know about being on the news but I can confirm there was a channel 10 film crew at WnW on Tuesday the 21st... Anyone know what it was about?
-
I often have people tell me that they've been to Movieworld or Dreamworld in the morning and have come to WnW for the afternoon. I would agree with Gazza though that if you do MW and WnW on a dive in movie night you'd have a much better chance. When are you coming? Remember dive in movies don't start until November this year.

Exactly! What with the locals discounts (which somehow cover all of QLD and Northern NSW), the myfun 10% discounts, RACQ discounts, entertainment book discounts, Annual passes etc and now staff passes I don't think I've ever been to a theme park and paid full price. Even tourists get package deals...

I was thinking that maybe they could cover the second launch. Make it inside a cave or something??? -
So what do you actually get for the $10/$5? Is it proper entry into PC or do you just get driven up there safari style?

Has anyone given any thought to what the storyline might be? Considering the double launch, and also that I DO NOT work in operations, my guess would be an animal rescue (obviously). I'm going to GUESS that we'll get a call out to an injured animal (probably a dolphin) and that will be the first half of the ride. The second half will start with the second launch and will be the return trip but (with any luck) there'll be a storm approaching and the seas will get rough, meaning a faster, steeper and better ride than MDMC. Once again I just want to point out that I don't work in ops and have never worked at SW and everything in this post is pure speculation. It if happens to be even remotely close to the truth then it's just a good guess. -

I think they're moving away from official opening dates having learnt their lesson with Superman Escape. It was due to open on the 26th and there was enormous publicity for this, but then it wasn't finished by Christmas Eve and so staff were called in on Christmas Day so that it'd be ready. I assume this is why there hasn't been much hype so far. It'll probably open as soon as it's ready with some sort of official launch a few days later. They're not going to leave a completed attraction sitting for a fortnight just so that they can launch it on boxing day, when all the while Seaworld could be getting more guests. -
They run buses for the dive-in-movies at WNW, and normally they'll send more if there's lots of people. The point is they seem to be prepared to run extra buses if they're going to make money from them. Screamworld is only one night every now and then. If it's three nights in a row then surfside might bother to organise something.

I was sent to work over at Movieworld yesterday and personally I think the roof looks great. It does seem to make everything much louder though. When the Batman and Scooby shows were on under the big screen, people were going into the ice cream parlour because outside was to loud for their 3 year old kids. Also as we left, they were setting up an event on main street outside the theatre and the glow from the red lights looked awesome. It keeps the light from escaping so I'm sure it'll be a great benefit at Halloween. John Menzies walk down Main Street at one point; from what I could tell he was happy.

Who will be the new Dreamworld CEO?
cerberus584 replied to TheMightyBoosh's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well, Steve Peet has announced his resignation from his role as COO of WVTP so... -
It's at Calypso Beach. Hopefully we won't see more people having hold your breath competitions in the wave pool because they're sloshed.

I'll try to go and get some photos before work on Thursday. The new bar will also be opening this weekend so I might be able to get some pics of that as well.
