Adventure World 2015 - 'Mi2' Kraken Tornado slide
iwerks replied to Tim Dasco's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I suppose even theme parks have news cycles. How do you keep the customers coming back? How do you keep your park in the news (in a good way)? If MI-2 comes out in September, how much clear air will it get before the next big park investment over east or elsewhere grabs the headlines? We can wait three years for the next big attraction - can everyone else? Kudos on the 7 days until extinction with regards to Dinosaur Island - a very funny and appropriate way of reminding people how long it is until the dinosaurs leave. Judging from Noxegon's comments it sounds like Adventure World has the best operations of any park in Australia. -
Why not do a whole new land with a dark ride and a coaster built around each other? Throw in a couple of flats too if you want to. They don't have to have it ready all at once. A new ride or attraction a year for the next few years?
-
At least they did have - unfortunately the parks are no more (although the buildings are used for other purposes). Apparently, Elizabethan World also had stocks in the town square and antiques in the main house.
-
This even more so.. found these on Lost Perth.

TPR has come up with dueling points of view of BSG - nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvxNdJTMOuk -

^ Yeah, make Yarli's Safaris into a dark ride. I reckon, Gerstlauer family coaster around the old castle island. Log flume ride up the back corner of the park. Don't have a problem with the old Pinfari looping coaster, but they are getting a little elderly. -

Wow, that's better than what I was thinking. -
Went to a bunch of old Perth theme parks and attractions today. Headed off to the southwest of Perth and visited Pioneer Village, Elizabethan Village and the Armadale Reptile and Wildlife Sanctuary (which is still operating). Pioneer Village is used as a school as well as stores, restaurants and churches. It has a real theme park feel to the place. Elizabethan Village is a pub and a micro brewery. Both are very pretty and well looked after. On the way home I had lunch in Scarborough and spotted the old Luna Park sign.

You're very welcome. Watching Lost Perth show on channel 9 at the moment. Unfortunately, it's looking at the 1970s not the 1980s. They were talking about the drive-ins and now Bullen's Lion Park. -

I think it must be from an early phase of the construction. The grounds were previously an industrial dump. Here's a quote from the Boans Staff at Adventure World Page: According to the Wikipedia page 380 000 tonnes of sand were used to reshape the contours - which you can kind of see there. The car park is going to be on the right, the grand prix track next to that. The main gateway is towards the centre of the picture. Other parts are less distinct. I do remember that there were a few hills for the trams to traverse when it did open. Obviously the chairlift didn't come for a few years later. The picture's been getting lots of likes on their Facebook page - 86 in four hours. I enjoyed this quote: -

So, everything else has been misdirection? As long as we get to go to the opening of it. That would be some escalator for $6m. True to his word.. Mark has started 'Throw back Thursday'. Thank you once again. From AW's Facebook page. 1981.. https://www.facebook.com/AdventureWorldOfficialPage -
I think you've handled this really well, ThrillSeekerNoMore, especially during the incident itself. When you see how some people behave on roller coasters (like Karl Stefanovic) it was very impressive to hear that everyone was so cool and calm whilst waiting for the emergency crews to arrive. I don't know how you did it.

Is that like a colour run?

Wow - thanks Mark. That's great news. $6m is a very respectable budget. -
It may well go the way of BSG and end up with new trains and half the capacity. I have ridden BSG since its initial incident (where the seat came off) and I will probably ride GL when it comes back online. I think I'm looking for MW to be really honest with what happened and 'step it through' how that's not going to happen again.
-
Thanks for sharing 'Thrilseekernomore'. That must have been a terrifying experience. I hope it hasn't put you off theme parks for life. I think we all weigh up the risks in our mind before we go on a ride, but you would never expect something like that.
-
It's the kind of accident that really makes you double think about going on a ride again. I thought BSG was bad enough, but this is pretty scary when you think about it. It's a good thing the accident didn't happen on a different element of the ride. I hope they get to the bottom of it.
-
It looks like Outback Splash has posted a public reply to those concerned about their handling of the accident last year. This is in response to messages from some concerned citizens posted on their Facebook Page.

Did Disney just go and make a movie about a whole land? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11fgwFAk3fk

The museum would be so cool, Mark, a bit like Disneyland's Main Street theatre. You could do it when you re-invent your shop. -
I find it odd that no one was filming on their iphones or cameras at the time. I wonder if there's footage with at least a recording of the sound.
-
It's good to hear that they all got down safely.

I've been hearing news about this for the last couple of days. It looks like what is old is new again. King Neptune has been cleaned up and the Atlantis area is being redeveloped (there's some nice footage in there). However, amongst the development, some people are calling for a water park of some kind where Atlantis used to be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSPP48KZiu0

Even people on TPR are commenting on Dreamworld's lack of a "world class" coaster. http://themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=69902&start=30
