Eureka Mountain Mine Ride reopening discussion
BigKev replied to rappa's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I have no idea of the status of the mine cart ride but it wouldn't surprise me to see Dreamworld get it going. DW has made a huge effort in the past 12-18 months and they would be well aware that the number 1 issue the average punter has with them is the Mine Ride being idle. Unlike Movieworld, who seem a bit oblivious to the issues they have as a park, Dreamworld seem ready and willing to listen and respond so on that basis alone I wouldn't be surprised if the rumours have substance. -

2015 in Dreamworld - ABC Kids World, V8 Supercars and more

I must admit as someone who knows little about coasters I always assumed roller coasters were like golf clubs, made out of wood until something better became available. If an expert could give a quick run down on wood v steel I'd appreciate the education. -
We agree twice.

There is also the attraction value of a coaster to take into account. Our family has travelled from Victoria to the Gold Coast for the parks, 10 times in 5 years and spent plenty of money at each of them in that time and we have barely ridden a coaster in that time apart from the more family orientated ones. We'd much rather see money put into something like Storm than a massive coaster and I'll wager people like us represent a fair whack of the parks annual income. -
Ummmm you fall and it feels like falling.

I'm not comfortable with Orcas, largely because I think their sheer size means it is almost impossible for a park to provide them with adequate space in which to live. The dolphins I am much more comfortable with and I think they also provide a powerful service to the environment. I know my children came away from the show with a dedication to marine conservation that has well and truly stuck with them, and they influence many people with their values. The same thing happened when they saw the elephant show in Bali zoo, after which they discovered the evils of palm oil use and have single handedly eliminated it from our and many friends and relatives homes. Provided animals are well cared for and seemingly content I have no problem with some living in captivity.

New dolphin show on the way for Seaworld

Thanks for the review. -
We've done the full dolphin and the dry land seal ones. Can't beat the dolphins but the dry land seal one was great value at about $50 I think.

What rides have you gotten stuck on, or have seen broken down?
BigKev replied to Jacko's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Does the park offer you any gestures of compensation in that instance? -
I've only done it a few times but I wouldn't describe it as scary, more disorientating. After the drop you generally cop a splash in the face and you notice a couple of patches of daylight at the escape hatches, then you spit out. Happens too fast to take much in.

What would you like to see at Gold Coast Theme Parks soon?
BigKev replied to Santa07's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Sure does, licensing aside, it's amazing really that Green Lantern is a ride and the Flash isn't. -
Why so much angst? If a young fella wants to run a website about theme parks then where's the harm?

Be good if they came up with a better way for the show audience to be seated. -

Why is everyone so obsessed with that water? Is this forum frequented more by city dwellers? When you live in the 'bush' it is pretty normal to see stagnant bodies of water change condition significantly depending on the climate. And turtles have high populations in sewerage ponds so I reckon they will cope ok! -
I'd have WnW at 2 for the same reasons you talk about. I think it is the next closest to being a full day park.

Crazy to have Geelong Adventure World ahead of Funfields as well.

Wow.

Have to say I've asked people politely (And not so politely when they refused) to put away cameras from the seats in front of me or my kids. Seems harmless but unless it is properly harnessed then it could easily slip out of hand and end up in the teeth of the person behind you.

Firing is the wrong term. It's a four hour position, accepting a contract is no different than accepting a 6 month contract. The terms of employment are clear. But the easiest solution would be for Dreamworld to simply use their existing employees, many of whom fit the demographic anyway and I suspect their contracts would already include a release for image use. And I know you are kidding about the cricket thing but I actually think it is even worse! International cricket has a river of cash running through it and they ask for highly skilled people to work for them for hours and hours on multiple days and offer them a t-shirt and a couple of tickets! Imagine if a promising young all-rounder, with the prospect of earning millions of dollars bowls and gets one smashed back at him, smashes a finger and never is able to reach his potential. They will have forgotten him before the ambulance leaves. Same kid is employed by Cricket Australia and has the same incident and he has the opportunity to access the same employee safety nets as any of us have each day when we go to work. I wonder how it would go down if I rock up to the World Cup Final and offer to mow a patch of the MCG in lieu of paying for a ticket?
