I’d say they with the continuous maintenance costs and probably the new parts and refurb the ride needs, there was no real value with spending this money when the rides popularity is so low. And really, at a price of $7 million, the ride was a bargain and isn’t that big of loss. But Dreamworld, you’ll definitely want to look at opening something near year too.

The reason why I don’t think DW will close down is because if they got to a situation where that could potentially happen, I feel like the government would step in to help it. And I’m sure some investor would buy the park too. I think after ST, they need to get 2-3 more big investments within the next 5 years. Maybe one of those investments could be multiple smaller rides at once (potential new land or expansion of existing, eg. Rocky hollow). Only then I think the park will be at a point where all the closures will be seen as ‘replaced’. I think in the mean time, they need to keep up with the school holiday entertainment/events, as they are proving to be very popular

Dreamworld won’t be gone for good. Give it 5-7 years and it will be heading towards becoming what it used to be.

I can see this area being changed to a viewing area for Steel Taipan and that’s all that it will remain. It will be an awesome spot for people to wait and watch riders as you get a view of the entire track

I’ve mapped out the current train line, possible new line and station locations. (Red: exisiting. Blue:potential. Green: maintenance line. Yellow: current station). Based off what we know, I think the blue line is most likely what we will see the rain route be when it reopens, with the green section kept to allow for maintenance and storage. Based off this I think the Rocky Hollow station will be no more, leaving the 3 stations. I’d be tempted to remove the Billabong station (one stop after Main Street) and just keep the two. I wonder if they will reopen the Corroboree store as that used to be used as the station exit (if I remember correctly) Having said all that, wouldn’t they have removed the Rocky hollow station during the log ride demolition? Why keep it if the track was going to bypass the station now? I do hope they remove the loop around blue lagoon because it has been an eye sore for 15 years now.

You could say the same for TOT. When they announced the ride, there probably wasn’t any plans to remove it.

They could’ve even done the old trick of having it under maintenance until they can announce a new attraction

Since 2016 the park has closed: River Rapids, Log Ride, Flowrider, Wipeout, TOT, Big Red Car, Cinema, Zombie Evilution, Brocks Garage, Hop and Hoot and now BuzzSaw. Some of those were much less of a loss than others, but still, that’s a long list of attractions to close. Since then they’ve got SkyVoyager, soon Steel Taipan and they utilise the Exhbition centre quite often too.

@Gazza that is very true. Over the past year, anytime I’ve gone the longest queue time i think I’ve seen is 15 minutes. Most of the time it’s a one or two cycle queue. Even last weekend when the park was very busy with an almost full car park, it was basically a walk on. I don’t know if it’s just because it’s now hidden with river rapids gone, but in the past 5 years it’s become less and less popular. People complain about the ride going, but it has clearly not been a popular ride anyway and once it is gone, people probably won’t miss it.

Just a generic reason I think. I’d imagine the real reason is old park management didn’t look after it properly and it’s costing to much to keep repairing it. (If you think about how much time it’s been under maintenance for over the past couple years, it’s pretty bad). So they are just going to get rid of it and put that money elsewhere at some point. I don’t think we’ll see another attraction go here anytime soon. It’s too narrow of area, especially now Steel Taipan is there. And I think we’ll see it removed before ST opens

12 years ago, a DW/WWW annual pass was newly $200, so they did go up over time, but then in 2011 VRTP decided to drop their passes to $99, DW had to match to compete and now the public have an expectation that’s how much they should be. So based off inflation, passes should be closer to $250 now, but they can’t because people don’t see value in paying that

The Westside camera has been removed while the construction of ST is underway. But it could possibly return as the current pathway will be altered, so that you can access Giant Drop from the stairs again. I don’t think the Westside has operated since the parks reopening last year.

That’s great to see it’s back in use. When I was walking past the ride yesterday, I noticed the camera tower and was thinking to myself, I wonder if that’s in use

Was looking at the model photos again and looks like you won’t necessarily queue through this part (unless the ride has a very long wait time. But most of the queue will be in the building itself and this area is more the entry to the ride. The opening that we’ve seen is definitely the attraction entry. There is also the two paths that wrap around Trident, one that goes under the coaster track near the lake. Based off the nearmap image, it appears that will still be the case.

Looks like the aquarium has made a very small return within the sea jellies exhibit. They couldn’t get enough jellies so they’ve got coral and fish in their too

They could definitely expand Dreamworks (or whatever it becomes) and add a couple flats there because they are on the same ground level. Maybe they could fill in the train tunnel and level that whole area out so it isn’t so up and down. And then instead of the tunnel you just have a railway crossing. This would also mean they would need to tidy up the back of ABC kids world, because the back of those old buildings are a mess. Probably expensive work to do all that, but if they want to make good use and value of the land they’ve got, some reworking needs to be done
