Thunder River Rapids incident at Dreamworld

Latest Dreamworld statement: -
"Juxtaposed against Thomas' bonus were early indications suggesting the four died for want of piece of updated equipment costing just a few hundred dollars – a limit switch that maintains distance between rafts on the ride which is thought to have failed." Cheap piece of equipment could have prevented Dreamworld accident - The Sydney Morning Herald http://www.smh.com.au/national/cheap-piece-of-equipment-could-have-prevented-dreamworld-accident-20161028-gscwei.html "An independent safety inspector, Shaun Johnson, looked at air receivers on 13 rides in 2012, including the Thunder River Rapids Ride, and deemed all "not fit for service". He was so concerned by Dreamworld's response that he asked Workplace Health and Safety Queensland to mediate. "The engineering department at Dreamworld did not produce any evidence of having a Quality Management System in place or any previous vessel inspection report," he wrote. He was reported saying Dreamworld tried to pressure him into changing the 12 non-compliance ratings to compliance ratings. "I told them I wouldn't, I refused to change the report," he told News Corp. In 2012 an audit log noted that several rides and water slides were in "dire need" of fixing, rust was visible and falling into pools, there were major leaks and cracks on slides and tape was used to cover some rides. In 2013, a patron had his knee ripped open by metal exposed by worn-down padding. It had not been picked up in maintenance but was fixed soon after. In 2014, the Australian Workers' Union raised concerns about "a culture of fear" among staff. "In my opinion, Dreamworld targets employees who speak up," an unnamed employee said in another file released by the industrial relations office. Since 2010 Dreamworld has faced more than half a dozen lawsuits with most settled out of court."

“No parts of the park will open until at least after the funerals of the four people who tragically lost their lives” - Dreamworld CEO Craig Davidson. "With regard to media reports about a Dreamworld worker making abhorrent comments on social media, I was sickened as much as everyone else when I heard this story. This man is not an employee of Dreamworld. We believe he was sub-contractor for a company who managed scaffolding for park refurbishment. He is not an engineer that has worked on rides." Report on 7 News at 6pm. More: https://yhoo.it/2dQSW3P #Dreamworld #7News -
I honestly have no idea how he made it through that speech. I was almost in tears. My guess is their lawyer advised them that if they gave the press what they wanted now eg a statement then the media wouldn't hound them trying to get one so it's better for them if it is on their own terms. Just my guess

I agree with you. She raised some very valid points. Especially how low the risk is dying on a theme park ride. I didn't have any problem with the article either I find it interesting none of these people raised their so called concerns before this happened. Especially this former employee. Case to grind for being sacked me thinks

I can understand why you thought that though. The mother who lost her family that day is the main person who talks about it -

How is it the worst ever theme park tragedy to have happened globally when 7 were killed at the Luna Park ghost train in 1979 -
According to The Project Deb Thomas apparently contacted the family within an hour of the AGM. The family said she seemed genuine and sincere and has offered to pay for their funerals Also the brother of the brother and sister who were killed released a statement today. He said people should be thinking about the children who had lost their mothers and had to watch them die. He said no one should point fingers and to wait for the investigation to be finished. He then finished his statement by saying if he could trade places with Kate that he would

Whatever their reasons were to seek out the advice of counsellors and psychologists on when to reopen they still got that advice and were wanting to follow through with it -

I feel sorry for Ardent Entertainment with all the backlash they have been receiving. Ardent Entertainment wanted to do the right thing so they asked psychologists and counsellors how long they should keep the park closed. It was the psychologists and counsellors who told them that they should reopen ASAP. Arden Entertainment were only trying to do the right thing -

Ardent asked psychologists and councillors when it would be the best time to reopen. According to the Ardent Entertainment GM it was the psychologists and councillors who said that it would be better to reopen ASAP -

When I think of disgusting media tactics I have just two words to show how the media destroys people even if they have to tell lies to do so: Michael Jackson I have never fully trusted the media when I learned the truth behind Michael and his complete innocence. The media like to destroy anyone as long as they can sell a story. It's one of the reasons I don't watch the nightly news every night
