New Kids Ride at Movie World - April 2023
Levithian replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
100%. The queue line could have formed away from the entrance to the kids area and the exit could have been on the opposite side towards carousel, splash zone, etc so guests can walk either side of the attraction without issue. It certainly wouldn't be any worse than what happens when characters were there for photo ops. Cuts off part of the entrance into the area and blocks off access to the pathway to the train. Would have given a great view over the whole area for sure. You really want that type of ride as central as possible, away from walls, buildings, etc as its kind of boring for kids to look at, plus you really don't want your guests looking at what is going on in back of house areas. To be honest, it was never probably in the cards but the whole kids area probably needed a redesign to fix access/make better use of available space. Some rides could go, others could be relocated and the converted parents retreat/timeout demolished with a new toilet block being built somewhere in the area that offers proper change areas/room. -
New Kids Ride at Movie World - April 2023

You really wouldn't want to put it where the old ride was. 2/3 of the view would be looking at back of house and the driving school roof. Ideal spot would have been where the big tree and stage is. But it would be a huge shame to have removed the tree, so Im glad that hasn't happened. -
It's not just a generator that has been added. It looks like they poured more concrete in the area and there is now a new/different lift motor in place. Anyone visiting over the next week and can take a photo? It's pretty huge. can't miss it. Id 100% say it is an upgrade, new lift drive and backup generator to be able to run the lift and send any cars over into the brake zone. Much safer to evac people from there, especially when the stairs go in. Also, @Ashley I always new where they moved some of the grave stones from. That wasn't the point (and its only actually just an imitation of it's former self that had sound effects and animated stones).

Exactly. Which means if the OP wants to talk about maintaining proper park layout, boot hill needs to go and doomsday should be in its place.

You guys are showing your age. Where was boot hill located? what is currently in it's place?

That's just a boom lift. The cranes aren't there anymore but the carpark has a big area closed off again, so looks like something else might be happening at the end of this week. -
Picked out arkham in the kids driving school but didnt mention boot hill cemetary or doomsday?

Better solution than a complex system in a really difficult place to access..... Don't operate in adverse weather. -

Yeah. Rip it off. Don't contact the manufacturer and use their advice and expertise in developing a plan or anything. Just wing it. -

If a couple of them were shut because of unexpected issues like the past week with DC rivals, Scooby Doo and Superman, yeah. If you were holidaying for a week or so and you found out the hard way (closures once you were in the park), it might take the sting out of it if you could return again. Other thing is it's exactly that busy during the holidays, people only getting the chance to visit maybe 3 rides in a day. Cheap return pass might take some of that pressure off and allow the people complaining the ticket price is way too expensive for what they were able to ride to get a second chance at riding what they missed out on. These have always worked at aussie parks when available. Especially when the yearly passes were closer to $300 where they should be. Hell, more people might be enticed to go as for a number of people a casual visit once every few years is about all they manage, so yearly passes aren't even thought about. Id even say it would be worth looking at the cost and seeing if it could be transferred to other parks so you could split the visit between say movieworld and seaworld, or seaworld and wet n wild or something. Goes double for lots of seniors who would love to take their grand kids (who have passes) to the parks, but have zero interest in going on any rides, they are just there to supervise and pay for everything else, yet they don't have discounted entry available, so it puts them off visiting. Only make the return able to be purchased with a full fare to avoid multiple return passes being purchased so you don't collapse your 3 day pass ticket. -

An alternative they could look at maybe bringing back is the readmission ticket like all the parks have done at one stage. You know the one you can buy a second return ticket for like $10 and have a month to use it or something. Useless for locals with passes, but out of state people buying day tickets might be happy being able to return for very little if things didn't go as planned/happy with the day they visited/want to come back again. -

If it didnt make the loop i dont think it could be towed, so the latter I guess. -
How about starting by building a set of stairs and viewing platform to check the lift drive from underneath that incorporates a fall protection system consisting of a safety line, fall restraint lanyards that limit the amount of movement away from the railing, and make ANYONE that is on the lift wear a harness? Also, a safe motorised platform like that would be perfect for inspecting the lift. One of the first components of risk assessments is removing the risk. You don't have your workers climbing out over the track every day, because sure enough, at some point someone is going to slip. People don't seem to realise having a harness and protection system in place is designed to save your life from a fall. It's not designed to prevent you from suffering any injury. You can hit things, get trapped, still fall unconscious, even be hanging from your harness and require rescue (which is actually life threatening in itself). You understand how gravity works right? how do people die from falling down vastly smaller stair cases in their house? There are no stairs. He's not inspecting "the cable lift channel", he's inspecting one of the number of seqments that make up the catch car system that connects with the train to pull it up the lift. You can reach them from the bottom. Regardless of what he is looking at anyway, you completely missed the point of posting the video, where I said it would be completely unacceptable to place workers in that position at all in Australia? As for green lantern, you can fall through the track and through the gap to the side of the stairs. See how they do evacuations from green lantern? they have tethers they place on the guests and walk them down one at a time keeping the guest between them and the railing. They aren't walking around unrestrained, carrying back packs and using their cameras. And guess what? that's not even acceptable anymore and they are installing spiral stair cases. Ahh, yes it easily has the potential to kill. Falling unrestrained down a 30 degree decline from a height of over 30m with nothing to break you fall but the concrete or catwalk at the bottom is easily capable of causing death. You've completely missed the point and yet, proven it at the same time. How the hell do you do that?

Here's a couple of stark examples. Unrestrained members of the public, carrying additional weight with back packs, camera equipment limiting points of contact. And while there are infill panels between the stairs of the lift, falling down the lift itself is very high risk and would be a need to be restrained in itself. Completely unrestrained, carrying additional weight, using cameras and unable to maintain points of contact; AND extremely high risk posed by the fall from great height with the open track just right there. Only one even remotely safe is the SLC with it's double railings. Im not interested in arguing Australia is too safety conscious and the levels of risk aren't that bad, only point out that it is completely different how they deal with personal risk and liability in the US, the culture is entirely different.

As I said before, its just not possible. You cant drop 8-10 rides worth of inspections on an engineering firm here and expect to have it returned to you inside a week. It's not just theme parks that need additional staff to make those sort of things happen, its everyone connected to the shut downs too. Everything about engineering and manufacturing is MUCH cheaper in the USA. Overheads running everything is MUCH cheaper in the USA. You just can't compete with them. It's just part of a host of reasons why things are different in Australia. And where does the money to pay for them come from? Raising ticket prices? Would you even stomach that if a park was closed 3 or 4 months out of a year? If anyone ever wanted proof of differences, here's an average example. Jump ahead to 5 mins. There's no railings at all. No steps/walkway up the lift, just a ladder system. While he is wearing a fall arrester, it's not a safe work environment even in high risk. You wouldn't see a lack of safety like that or workers placed in that position daily on a ride in Australia. None of it would be acceptable.

You wouldn't even get it done in 2 months. People underestimate how much cleaning, crack testing and painting happens with each ride. Weeks, if not that whole month would be eaten up by just removing things and sending them somewhere, then picking back up. Sometimes things just take as long as they do because you can't manage it any other way. Combination of costs, staff levels, suppliers, contractors or other 3rd parties involved, hell even the weather. It has to be a reasonable plan that is achievable. Throwing caution to the wind and doubling your staff during closing the park / off peak season to complete more maintenance in a shorter time must not make good business sense for anyone as you would expect that's what would be happening. If they can tell exactly how much every person coming through the gate spends on average at each of the different retail / f&b departments, you bet they have applied the same scrutiny to other park operations to see if they can be more efficient or save money.

Dreamworld Staff PTSD -Gold Coast Bulletin 13th August 2022

Are you serious? Did you even read the article? A not for profit, rehabilitation and support/guidance service offering comfort animals in the treatment of ptsd and severe depression is not self promotion for personal gain or in any way immoral. The headline could have been about the price of fuel and ended up with the guy talking about wanting to build his foundation further to reach more people suffering, and it STILL would not have been self promoting if they ran the news story every day at the top of their mast head for a month. -
Justice League Alien invasion at movieworld probably has more in common with the legoland lost kingdom rides sally built previously than it does justice league battle for metropolis. The whole WB park in Abu Dhabi is mind blowing. They probably spent more money building the street scenes for the metropolis area than the cost to build all the other Justice Leagues combined. Best part is, being indoors the upkeep has got to be drastically reduced. Leaves a lot of scope for neat little things like the ceiling lighting changes so the sky reflects the time of day (even weather) that you couldn't hope to do outdoors. Check out the ceiling changing and the projections used just in the sky (let alone on the buildings) during the show in the plaza. The harry potter sequences in particular are world class. Forget about their rides, Im 100% jealous of their sets and the performances!

Regardless of what maintenance they might be scheduled to have performed, the simple fact is there are more rides than you have months in the year. You have no choice but to have multiple rides closed at once or they will never have their shutdowns completed. Can't keep building rides and keep the same maintenance schedule. Have a choice. Close more rides during off peak times when visitor numbers are low, or suffer the fallout of having major attractions closed during peak seasons. Many reasons for trying to avoid the latter as much as possible.

Considering I think the original date for closure was something like October? I reckon someone important might have actually seen your post, gone and taken a ride for themselves, realised the shit show they have expected guests to put up with, and decided enough was enough. 😆

If they absolutely have to post things like chain dogs and arb's, at the least they should post a labeled photo showing them in position under the boats so people have an idea what they are talking about. Even if you have no idea exactly what it means, you can at least see what they are talking about and where it is.
