  1. That's a totally valid way of looking at it. I work to my definition but that doesn't make others wrong.
  2. Interestingly Tim Fisher is now at Cedar Fair and the they've introduced cheap passes which caused havoc at Cedar Point at the end of last season with over crowding. They're at the Q150 pass stage of the Tim Fisher cycle. You know what I think the biggest cost of the passes has been; it's made the parks not special. They used to be places you went once a year and it would be a huge event. Now it's a pop in for a couple hours on the way back from Brisbane. Thanks to the cheap prices, people treat the parks like their local trampoline center. I hope they stand by their word and keep the prices as high as possible for a bit. I wouldn't begrudge DW taking the discounted space in the market. One they need the advantage, and you could probably sustain 1 park on $99 passes, as opposed to sustaining 4 on $75 passes which Village were doing with the buy 3 get 1 free shit. Once they get their new coaster open, and if they get something else open the year after which should be on their list of things to do if they can afford it, up the price. It's all fairly simple really.
  3. Iconic and good aren't really the same to me. Like I don't think of Wild West as being iconic, where as DW's log ride certainty is to me. To me it's something like if you were to ask someone from out of town, what would they know about? Same with Bermuda. Ripper of a ride, but not in the first 4 things I think of when I think of SW. With Wonderland it's Bounty's & Bush Beast. I reckon for a certain generation Space Probe and Demon too. Space Probe dropping on '3', intentional or not was inspired. Before I knew anything else about the ride I knew it did that, it was everyone's favorite story about it
  4. Yeah SW know more than you about caring for dolphins. I mean even if you go with the perspective that SW are evil, and that it's all about money, then dolphins passing away early or being too stressed for interactive programs is bad for business. I agree the optics are bad, but it's just optics. SW simply aren't going to do something to jeopardize the health of its dolphins.
  5. Our parks don't have international recognition. If you're thinking 'What rides do overseas enthusiasts know about?' It's ToT, and maybe Superman, Rivals or Scooby, or just the concept of a third 'Warner Brothers Park' If you're thinking what do international tourists know about It's probably lorrikeet feeding. Nothing about our parks is special on an international level to normal people. Same as most normal people in Australia haven't heard of Six Flags. Personally, I couldn't think of a group I care about less than international enthusiasts. If they happen to enjoy our stuff then great, but I don't think what's popular in enthusiast circles matters in any meaningful way.
  6. You know it's funny but there is a point to this. Like I listed Lethal Weapon deliberately, not Arkham, Corkscrew not Sea Viper. Rivals really doesn't have that same thing about it. I think it will be an icon given time (just the scale and impact off the highway), but it doesn't really hit the way it should. I'm sure people are constantly saying let's ride the Hyper Coaster (Which goes against marketing calling it HyperCoaster). Suicide Squad would not have been better, nor would Batman V Joker. Jist Joker might've worked though.
  7. Iconic means so many things. For me it's which rides feature in Gold Coast ads/which ones inspire the public's imagination. For my taste that would be SW Corkscrew Ski Show Dolhpin Show, maybe Polar Bears but probs not. MW Superman, Lethal Weapon, PA. Rivals will be just by pure scale but I think its still too new to be 'Iconic' DW TIgers, ToT, Wipeout Thunderbolt, Log Ride, MAYBE Claw. WnW Just the concept of water slides, Dive in Movies. Overall, probably ToT or Corkscrew. These days Superman and Dolphins.
  8. Well you said it wasn't viable to get rid of them because they make money. Have a think and let me know if you think it's not viable to get rid of something that makes a little bit of money, or you just understand the logic of keeping something that does 🙂
  9. I passionately disagree with the idea that 'does it make money' be the only factor in deciding if something is worth it or that 'It makes the place shit' is not a valid reason. Not only do I disagree with you, but the people who built the parks disagree with you (I've seen it first hand), and the management teams who actually give a shit disagree with you. Good news is the people who mismanaged Village Ardent and Wonderland all agree with you 100% EDIT: I'm not saying remote control boats are bad, and I know you're not advocating for them in the dumb places they were, but honestly the bin is a fine place for them and they don't need to be shoehorned in for a fairly inconsequential amount of loose change just because you have them.
  10. What did DW do with theirs and how is Wonderland doing these days?
  11. Sea Viper to me was a bit like an elderly relative with dementia. You love them, and you want them to be back to the way they were, but when the end comes it's almost a relief. Least missed attraction for me by a big margin would be the Pirates Unleashed show. There have been actual trainwrecks that were somehow less of a trainwreck than that show. Somewhat related the upcharge paddle boats on the Ski Lake, Dino Island and the Shark Attack exhibit. It does warm my heart a little bit to think that whatever else is happening with the park, those days are gone. I'll also preemptively put all 3 frog hoppers that the Gold Coast parks have had on the list. Sort of nothing rides that somehow generate a massive queue. Obviously I don't ride them, but when you go with kids they do, so that's a good 20mins of your day spent queuing for a single turn.
  12. While I get what you're saying, it fails to take into account how much pure trash is out there. Like maybe it won't be tier 1, sure, but it's probably going to be tier 2 or 3, and there's like 10 tiers below that.
  13. She should get help when she's ready. She should also be compensated. Ardent through their actions have linked the two, potentially causing more trauma. If she doesnt want, or is unable to talk about seeing her mum and 2 other family members being killed right in front of her, maybe respect that but still give her the compensation she's due? This shit isn't hard. Also she's 14. She knows what money is, don't treat her like an idiot.
  14. But if she's too traumatised to speak to someone she should get nothing. Got it.
  15. Yeah what the hell kind of attitude is that? Normally agree with you man but I must admit I take the trolls side here
  16. Again, it was in the context of 'This is what we're doing with our capex'. You can expect what ever you want and I'm happy for you, but that's the answer 🙂 As for the next part of the conversation; you'd think Cyclone has a bit of life left in it still. Surely they've learned not to spend lots of money returning a ride only to have it be cactus shortly after
  17. It's in the context of capital expense. They are spending money (which is tight right now) on taking a couple of things down.
  18. They said they were going to decommission them. They're already closed. It's like if DW said they had capital aside to remove ToT & RHLR
  19. Gah well that sucks. Still not great reading that page, Superman will do a lot to make park seem less dead when they can get it going. You can forgive a lot more being closed in a park that has Rivals and Superman open.
  20. Its easy to assume that, but with Buzzsaw it really is poor support from the manufacturer. I've been saying for years that Buzzsaw was in that group of rides with ToT, Wipeout, and RHLR that didn't have much life in them and serious thought needed to be given to their replacement.
  21. It's the old thing isn't it? Yes it sucks, but it sucks for the park too. They wanted it open, the guests wanted it open, they couldn't open it due to something that came up at the last min. No point being mad about it. You're saying they should have anticipated something going wrong, how do you know they didn't? How do you know that there wasn't some slack built into their reopening timetable but things came up and pushed it back? Does it suck? Yes. Is it worth raging about? No.
  22. So WWW going to seasonal, selling land and reducing the ride count by 2 permanently is a win? I can imagine what people here would have been like on the Titanic: 'I have it on good authority that the destination is New York, so hitting the Iceberg is just another master stroke from Captain Smith! Plus it's so much quicker to go from the back of the ship to the front now!'
  23. That's a ripper of a post @wikiverse. Always enjoy a post outside of my area of expertise
  24. Was there a different Bush Beast than the one at Wonderland, because the only Bush Beast I went on was shit. Hate to say it but the reason people think of it fondly is because it was a right of passage sort of ride. If I could reride any coaster that has closed it would probably be Thunderbolt, but it's 100% nostalgia. It was an absolute mess of a ride. Be honest and admit the thing you like from your childhood was shit but you have a soft spot for it because it is was an institution in the city you grew up in, and you have a nostalgic connection to it. Don't waste your time saying how objectively good it was.
