  1. I think people have missed the 'fountain' joke, and also what a thoroughly pointless feature the world's biggest fountain would be.

Thank you to the president of the stickler society for your input.

Well the incident happened at night so not sure it would have helped here.
  4. I didn't read the media section because I wanted it more 'from the horses mouth', but if they think that those are representative articles then I'll go off that. I must admit I had got my lines crossed about their supporters saying they think Dreamworld should be sold; it was apparently analysts who think that. I don't know if those quotes are included because they think they're incorrect or correct. Actually depending on how you read it they could be saying they want to sell the place or invest more in it, they're the investment equivalent of a newspaper horoscope - broad and vague enough that people can read whatever they want into it. I'd love to see someone who owns Dreamworld who sees the value in developing the unused land themselves rather than selling it off, which is what the people agitating for change seem to want to do based off their own media reports. However if selling of excess land assured the future of the park that would be preferable to the park closing. I guess what I'm getting at is I want more information on what they want to before I publicly say I support them. Same goes for Main Event, they don't point to anything specifically wrong with the Main Event rollout that they're doing aside from it's bad. If they come out with a manifesto about what their plans are, particularly if those plans guarantee the future of Dreamworld, then I'd be all for it, but for now I'm waiting on more information.

I think the news.com article mentions the wrong disaster. The Air Canada plane was lined up to land ontop of 4 other planes. Why would you compare it to an unrelated type of plane crash instead of Tenerife, the worst accidental plane crash in history (which also took place on the ground).
  6. I couldn't find any mention of Dreamworld, aside from a supporter of theirs saying Dreamworld should be sold. I don't support the sale of Dreamworld because i think the only potential buyer would be a land developer. What am I missing here?
  7. Having been on it, it's also just a dull ride. I think Sea World is ripe for some bigger thinking than 'where can we fit a flatride?' For me it needs more of a cohesive vision, not just 'a roller coaster'. What sort of coaster? Themed to what? How abstract is the theme? How could it fit into a new themed land? What should that themed land be? Sea World doesn't really have themed 'lands' but there's a really unique oppitunity to do something truely special. I don't think 'build a coaster and a flat ride' is thinking big enough.
  8. They were all removed to make way for exciting new attractions! It's a combination of things, Bermuda and Corkscrew had each deteriorated to the point where it would have been prohibitively expensive to keep them going, Pirate Ship went because they were too cheap to perform some required maintenance. Flume needed new boats that while not crazy expensive, again they didn't want to spend the money at the time. Skyway not 100% but I would suspect that the rope was up for replacement as well as the poles and other hardware so would've taken quite a bit of money spent it. The train was closed because no reason, and the 3rd monorail has been canabilised for parts (including its PLC being used for fountains for the Spongebob parade). Not sure witg Plunge but given it and the kiddie pool closed as well I'd say it wasn't an entirely mechanical issue, the apparently the tower wasn't in great nick apparently. So yeah combination of being cheap and being caught out by a couple rides reaching the end of their life.
  9. NSW and VIC school holidays just started, that'll do it.
  10. Thing is the park has gone from maybe 20 cars in the carpark over the recent school holidays to having a good couple of hundred today and when I drove past a queue halfway down Mammoth (only one side but still). We've had nice days over the holidays but this is the first time I've seen the place looking properly busy, and having it happen so close after passes have expired is odd too. Strange to me, but good to see in any case.
  11. Speaking of one off things, why is Wet n Wild so busy today?
  12. This must be some strange new useage of the word interesting that I wasn't previously aware of.
  13. I'm not really a fan, but I also don't care, and it'll obviosuly grow on me over time. No doubt one day in the future it'll get taken down for repairs, and we'll all comment and agree on how odd the coaster looks without it. Like many things it's not something I'd have done had I been in charge, but it's not something that I think is harmful in anyway. Fwiw that stuff around Superman at SFNE looks tacky as hell to me.
  14. I humbly step down in people's minds as a Disney expert. Whilst my knowledge is more extensive than I feel is socially acceptable, compared to the encyclopedic knowledge of others I'm barely even autistic.
  15. That makes no sense at all. Why go to the effort of having streamers for only one night? It's either worth it or it's not. To then use it tonight anyway despite tonight not being the last night (which was supposedly the point) just begs the question why did they save it for tonight rather than using it over the weekend when it was busy, or saving it for the last night as originally planned. I mean it's not like this stuff gets programmed a month in advance then they're locked into it. That park makes some strange decisions man.
  16. Really not a fan of SBF Visa's stuff, but probably the right level of ride for the park. Still don't fully understand how that park is able to do the things it's doing. Gotta be all that pokie revenue right?
  17. I think something worth saying is the choice isn't between a reborn mine ride or a new coaster. It's a reborn mine ride or nothing. I think you could make a compelling argument for either of those choices, but "They need to replace it with a new wild mouse" is probably a bit unrealistic.
  18. I think the objection I have with this at a fubdamental level is this piece of shit is calling itself a theme park where really it is at best a themed residential commercial area. It'd be like if South Bank called itself a theme park. I pity any tourist who gets duped into going to this little trap, and by calling it a theme park it tarnishes the reputation of the theme park industry and the Gold Coast as a whole. I have further objections beyond that to do with cultrual inappropriateness, intergration, and other planning issues, but the thing that makes me object at a deep level is how this place is misrepresenting itself in a way that us harmful to the tourism industry.
  19. So it's a themed residential development mostly? Sounds truely awful.
  20. I just polietly say no with a smile and keep walking. Also you'll be shocked to learn I'm not a fan of the setup, but offended? In the words of Stephen Fry "Well so fucking what?"
  21. There's a bit of a clue in the title though 'remembering the 90s'. It's not claiming to represent one exact moment in time, so maybe you don't have to talk down to the person who made it for not visiting the park enough.
  22. Wow I've never seen someone drink so much cool aid before. A hotel near dreamworld will hurt their numbers because people will go down the road to Movie World instead? How do people come up with this shit?
  23. If you do buy the plunge, red hot tip make the pool at the bottom longer
  24. "Still the tallest, still the fastest, first to go backwards" would be an amazing ad to run. So long as they don't draw the direct comparison and don't mention what's going on down the road at all I think it's totally fine.
  25. I started watching and didn't get through it. Everytime they mentioned Disney I had a little cringe and they just wouldn't stop going on about it. Reckon the fact that the development is 2 thirds residential is probably worth a mention to. Despite that the development does seem like it's based on Dreamworld actually being there so as long as that's the case I'm cool with it.
