  1. Here's the thing, when you have a park that is mostly made up of good employees with the occasional bad one, that's a dud employee. When every staff member looks like they'd rather be somewhere else is slow and rude but you still find the occasional good one, that's a management thing. I'm almost certain if management were to receive that criticism their response would be 'We need to tell off all the staff and make them look happier' rather than 'We need to find out why all our staff hate working here and fix it' Anyway, I didn't mean to go on a big anti Village rant, it just kind of happens sometimes.
  2. Yeah look if I were building a park I wouldn't let Village Roadshow anywhere near it. Nothing to do with the Green Lantern incident, but the general lack of passion for the industry that exists within the company is truly a thing of beauty. In a recent share holder statement, they made mention of the fact that they were attempting to give the parks a more magical feel and brand, by renaming the VIP pass the VIP Magical pass. Nothing in parks changed, but they thought naming it the Magic Pass would help the public think of their parks as being magical. It's difficult not to be impressed by such thinking.
  3. Oooh my apologies I totally misunderstood. But yeah, I think iwerks is right. Design a themed land with a good mix of attractions and open it one ride at a time. I don't think it'd be hard to come up with something good, wether it's Atlantis, and old Sea Port or a to Myths and legends of the sea or a sea side amusement park, there are a ton of good options. As limiting as the theme of the park is it also helps focus on what sort of themed areas you should be building.
  4. Again though who cares what it looks like from Sea World Drive? No one ever drove past Disneyland and thought 'Well I can't see anything, let's go somewhere else' and frankly a fair portion of the people driving past Sea World are boaties, people staying at the resort or people taking their dog for a walk. You could make a case that being able to see the rides from across the Broadwater is good advertising, but on Sea World drive?
  5. I reckon making decisions about what's good for the park based off how impressive it looks to the people on Sea World Drive is getting things a little mixed up.
  6. To say Sea World shouldn't get a coaster because there are plenty on the coast is pretty laughable. Both of Sea World's coasters, while good in their own right, don't succed in being a signature coaster like Corkscrew was for most of its life. There was a longtime on the Gold Coast when Sea World boasted Corkscrew and Bermuda Triangle as its two signature rides. Debatably the Coast's best, if not most iconic coaster and best dark-ride. Now Jet Rescue and Storm Coaster are trying to do the same, except Storm fails in its execution in being a good coaster or a good dark ride. It's a good family ride but as a coaster it falls short and as a dark ride it falls short. Jet Rescue is a halfway point between family coaster and thrill machine, but it's not got what it takes to be a Gold Coast park's number one thrill machine. Sea World needs a no holds barred adult coaster. The other two it's got cant do the job of carrying the park. While they're at it a smaller 'filler' ride couldn't hurt either. The park is seriously lacking substance at the moment, and the money being spent on Creatures of the Deep would be better spent on a flat ride. Actually scrap that, the money would be better spent getting the Skyway and Monorail back up to a decent speed and capacity.
  7. Zip line at WnW on the other hand is SBNO and has been for about a year or two.
  8. Don't worry Gazza, I've moderated the hell out of this thread
  9. Why do people trying to make a point think the phrase 'so-called' hurts? Anyway, I told webslave off earlier in the thread and he didn't have a cry about it, I make a post saying you're being over sensitive and to prove me wrong you act butthurt. Besides, the thrust of the post wasn't having a go at you, he had a go at what you said. Very different. Be an adult.
  10. Obviously we don't want to foster an environment where people feel bullied. With that in mind, I've assembled a list of people you should consider blocking.
  11. I hurt myself at work once. I too thought it was nothing but saw a doctor anyway, and they found I was more injured than I thought I was. I didn't speak to a lawyer. Now I'm better, the end.
  12. That's a really impressive attitude to have, and I really congratulate you for it. I assume Movie World, work cover or their insurance is looking after your medical expenses though? It's an inane thing to say I know, but we're all very happy you're safely on solid ground too Also you've been flagged as a spammer! This is mistake at our end we'll sort that out asap!
  13. That's a bit like saying 'Why don't planes have 4 main wings invade the first two fall off?' It's a cliché to be sure but you're still safer on a ride than you are driving to the park, hell that's the most catastrophic failure a ride can have and it ended safely. Some might argue that's good fortune rather than good management, but it does show even something that bad doesn't nessacarly end badly. I don't believe that poor maintenance is Movie World's business model, and I'd feel totall safe getting on the rise when it reopens.
  14. Good to see Yoda found a job after Star Wars
  15. Any chance you could post a brief run down? I'm on my phone and it's not giving me an option to translate

Nice photos! I had a genuine moment of thinking 'how the hell did you get photos of Arkham from the studios?' before I remembered that your last visit was when Dawn Treader was on display.
  17. Yeah, I'm kinda side of 'er n'o here too. I think it's a fair bet that someone did hit the e-stop since the car stopped at the bottom of the lift (possibly after hearing a loud bang). If they didn't though the block system would have prevented an accident, so the second car is really a non issue. Well done to the op though. From looking at the low res blurry photos It looks like there was a failure in the front left of the train, that then has got wedged under the car and caused a failure of the back left set of wheels. That's really about as bad a situation as one could realistically imagining happening, and while this sort of failure seems to invariably result in a situation where the car gets stuck, things could have been much worse, and I think many from Village Roadshow management will privately be thinking that they dodged a bullet here. Having said that, Movie World maintaince is pretty damn good when it comes to this sort of thing. Everything they do is within the manufactures standards. That's everything from how the rides are to be inspected to how often every piece of hardware is replaced. It's far too early to speculate in any meaningful way from outside the company about what caused the incident, but I wouldn't be calling for the heads of anyone from Movie World's maintaince team at this stage. It could be a faulty part that was supplied, it could be an issue with the reccomended maintance procedure, or it could be a hairline fracture inside a component that's just impossible to spot. Wether we ever know for sure is anyone's guess, but I wouldn't suggest people go pointing the finger till you know what you're talking about.
  18. Webslave, I'm going to put this really simple. This is not the topic to grind your axe. No one cares about your hurt feeling from an old topic.
  19. We all know redundancies are built into rides. Rides are designed so that a few components can fail and still have things be perfectly safe. I think that's a really important thing to remember. On the other hand though, wow that's really not OK.
  20. Eureka is a fun ride and I hope it reopens, but you remember it wrong.
  21. It seems the share market isn't a massive fan of the appointment, with shares on Ardent down around 20% after the announcement. Personally I find it difficult to be massively inspired by the phrase "(I) will be able to bring new ideas in customer insight, marketing, branding and digital knowledge to the company and the board". Hopefully there is more to her than this, but It seems to continue a general trend of people with little to no passion for the amusement industry being in charge, and I think that's a sad thing.
  22. Really 27 degrees? That's seems really warm to me. That's rather interesting.

I just realised that I haven't responded to this thread, and just wanted to do so to say, no worries mate, hope you had a good time! Also having read up to date so far, my desire to go to Luna Park Melbourne has now all but faded. Except for the possible pleasure that is standing in a small park that relies on it's charm, which is througherly lacking in the charm department.
  24. I really hope the ride reopens, partly because I'd love to ride it again, but mostly for the bitching on here from people whose nostalgic memories got the better of them. If it re-opens, stand by for the following complaints: Low capacity Short ride Shoddy themeing Too violent Questionable clearances Again, I liked the ride, the drop out of the mountain before the station flyover was a particular highlight for me, the crazy arse s-bend in the dark at the end also never failed to make me happy. I just get the feeling that the people who have remembered it being so amazingly themed and top notch will be surprised when they see a UV skeleton that looks like it was purchased from Crazy Clark's.
  25. I think the big and obvious difference is Big Banana is simply buying $1.6million worth of attractions, not establishing an entirely new park from scratch.
