  1. Except, and I don't quite know how to put this, but that's not what happened here is it? Structurally, the ride in this instance was fine. Also since there are probably waaay more rides given every year by traveling rides, statistically you'd expect there to be more accidents. I think what is true though is that you're more likely to get 'cowboys' in the traveling ride circuit. It's not predictable available work, so getting a large number of good reliable staff is an issue. None of which may be a factor in this tragic event of course, just food for thought,
  2. Possible, but you'd have to say unlikely. This might make me a terror suspect for saying it, but there are better targets for people who wish to make a political point than attacking a theme park.
  3. Really? You're not keen on a movie themed maze, made by the studio that runs the park, which also happens to be be one of the most successful Australian horror movie themes of recent decades? Really? You're not keen?
  4. I'll give you the use of a Massive Show building as a negative, but I'm kinda digging the theme. I would have preferred a 'Streets of Looney Tunes' type of theme so it'd fit the theme of the land better, but to be honest I think "Mini Movie World" is pretty cool. Don't tell me you didn't ride the Vintage Cars at Dreamworld as a kid and think it'd be the most fun in the world to drive one of those cars around the park?
  5. You won't see the Speedy's cars on the Drive School track. I think my preferred option for Speedy's would be for the ride to be removed in its entirety, and replaced with a nice wide path and some shady seating.
  6. sense making the thread?
  7. Wetnwild the splash plant Gold Coast? Many movie fun good inbetweeners, and plenty of laughing times. Gold Coast parks movie lots, like as in blurred also the movie world, and Scooby as in Wet n wild, and H20, the sea world.
  8. Before there were stairs and an inside queue, there was an outside queue, and much like there is an elevator to exit, there was a pair of elevators to take guests up to the load level.
  9. One of the good things about a Zacspin, shuttle loop (whoever makes it) or non spiralling impulse/half pipe is that it could be a major coaster, but at no point would people be screaming AT the residents, and in theory could be a bit quieter.
  10. I haven't heard that one, but with how good Mr Menzies was at getting a bargain back in the day I wouldn't be shocked.
  11. Village has been in talks to run a Sea World in Asia. I wonder if the partnership is purely because Village needed permission to use the Sea World name outside of Australia.
  12. Yeah, Storm themeing would be cool. Leaving up parts of a dead coaster as a 'display' sounds pretty awful to me.
  13. What about as a method to increase capacity? There's nothing saying they can't run two trains that don't look the same.
  14. Cost reasons. The cost of relocating fire fighting equipment to ceiling level is enormous. I agree it is rather lame, but I'd rather they saved the money from that and spent it on other areas.
  15. You know what, I don't think it makes sense to remove Eureka until they've got an idea what to do with the land. I mean think about it, if they get rid of the mountain, they'll then have to redress the side if the cinema, and the thing that would look best is if they turned it into a mountain. Great, except when they do use the land they have to remove part of the facade and redress the whole area from scratch. Seems much better to me to leave the mountain sitting there. Having said that though, they really should paint it in the meantime so it doesn't look like it's a decaying fibreglass facade. Hell, even better would be if they could have a waterfall come off it. It's not hard to picture it coming out of one of the tunnels on the side. You could also have it partly run into Thunder River. Theme it up, make it look nice and I'd be content to let it sit for another couple of years.
  16. Yeah, the only thing confirmed was that there was nothing wrong with the chopper. It did raise questions about the skills of the pilot, if he was 'showing off' or not, and how exactly it was that he was able to become a pilot for the company in the first place. The report is very ambiguous in its findings; either the pilot was at fault, and flying recklessly or he had an undiagnosed heart condition. Given the report mentions he had friends on board, I'm betting the former, but at the end of the day it's pure speculation and that's all it can be.
  17. There's a report on the CASA website, while it was a long time ago when I read it, I'm pretty sure the upshot was basically that they took off with too little fuel onboard, due in part to human error, and in part to a faulty gauge.
  18. Hey rac2703, reckon you could include the scale on those images?
  19. It was very heavily rumored back when the ride closed earlier in the year. A sad day, but I think we all saw it coming. Personally, I'm looking forward to the future; with Wild looking less and less likely to be built at Sea World, I think the demise of Corkscrew and recently reclaimed land does present the park very rare opportunity to do something truly amazing. Corkscrew was an iconic ride, not just for Sea World, but for the entire Gold Coast, it stands to reason that it's replacement should be something equally iconic. Not a spinning coaster, not a Eurofighter, but maybe a MACK launch coaster, something from B&M or a good quality Intamin looper. Unusually for SW, there's a huge amount of land available, almost all of it can be imagined from scratch, so lets see them do something amazing and iconic.
  20. I must admit, I'm kind of over the 'This ride is both a thrill ride, and a family ride' thing. It seems to be a bit of a plague at the moment. MDMC, Pandamonium, Dreamworld's new ride, maybe Doomsday, and SWO's Antarctica. Enough, just have a thrill ride, or a family ride. Stop with this whole 'It's Both!' crap, because it almost never works out any good. Pandamonium only works as a thrill ride, Antarctica only works as a family ride, Doomsday will only work as a thrill ride, and MDMC doesn't really work as either. Hell, why restrict this to new rides? Let's add a family friendly option for GD that goes up and comes down slowly, or make ToT family friendly by just having it cruise down to the end of the launch track at 10km/h and then slowly came back. 'Let's do a 'family friendly' Wipeout cycle that doesn't go upside down!' No, let's not, let's let thrill rides be thrill rides and family rides be family rides rather than make a ride that either fails at one or both.
  21. So... what are the rumours about their future? Won't hold you accountable if it turns out not to be true, just curious.
  22. So I'm not following closely, but is freefall done? What if anything is happening with the castle this year?
  23. If your kid is shorter than 100cm, than all you'll be able to do all day is buccaneer bay, wave pool, and calypso beach. More young kid attractions are sorely needed at WnW, and even though it won't get huge attention on this site, it's a massively important and welcome attraction for the park.
  24. It's not though. The Sea World Eye had doors on both sides, Brisbane Eye only has doors on one side. Same manufacturer, but I'm pretty sure the Sea World Eye has left the country, think it may have gone to Perth after being on the Gold Coast, but not totally sure.
