  1. I agree with that, but at $8 each I'm both not interested, and a little annoyed. However in a world where the only thing that matters is money (which is the world we live in, as much as I like to argue against it) getting thousands of hungry people to go to a place and then ripping them off is a very good way of making money
  2. I do dislike the marketing of MDMC, but that's not the only thing that makes it a bad ride. Here are an incomplete list of other things about the ride I don't like: 1. Slow moving queue. 2. Uncomfortable trains 3. Unintuitive restraints 4. Unintuitive and noisy station which vibrates constantly 5. OH&S issue for staff as they have to push down on restraints 6. Has only one fast turn, rest of ride is dull 7. Most rides get lower to increase the thrill as ride goes on. MDMC actually gets higher as the ride goes on, making a slow ride even less thrilling. 8. Takes up a massive piece of prime real estate within the park which could be better used on a better ride/themed area. 9. Is an ugly looking ride, which doesn't fit within it's surrounds. 10. Has an unambitious, garish theme. 11. "It needs to fire up" Things I like about MDMC 1. The loose items carousel. 2. The sidecars. As a thrill ride with a height restriction of 130cm, it's hopeless. As a kid's ride with 110cm height restriction, it's at least enjoyable to someone. 3. It's such failure as a ride apparently inspired Sea World to add a second launch to the ride it was working on.
  3. ^^ I'll concede the harness does get uncomfortably tight. For my tastes though, the tightness isn't for long enough to make me prefer the old trains and the head banging they brought. That's my opinion and anyone who disagrees is wrong . As for what makes a good ride, honestly it depends on what the ride is and what it's trying to achieve. The question was framed around coasters, and I just want to throw in 2 cents and go against the grain here: Themeing/story is totally unnecessary for a good coaster. I would say a ride should be well presented and landscaped, but themeing and especially story is not even close to being important. Don't believe me? Look at all the Busch Gardens rides, none of them have any story, or particularly strong themeing, but they're incredibly well presented, interact with the landscape, and are awesome. Just to ram this point home; 18 coasters of the top 20 have no story. The two that do are Blue Fire, and Nemesis. Nemesis doesn't actually tell you the story either, you just kinda have to know it, and even then it doesn't really make sense. Talk to me about the importance of story and themeing when Rock 'n' Rollercoaster is number 1 instead of Expedition Geforce. Sure, if done well, like in the case of Scooby and Superman, it make a great ride better, but to say it's a vital part of a great ride is about as untrue a statement as you can make.
  4. It's funny how many people see a one sided documentary (either Blackfish or The Cove), and insist everyone else gets educated like them. I think at Sea World in Australia all they have is 'We don't like dolphins in captivity' because that's all they really can say, since Sea World's animals aren't from the wild, live longer lives than wild dolphins and suffer less stress in family groups at Sea World. Oh, and just to clarify this in case there is any doubt: There is a difference between a training session and feeding. If an animal doesn't do well at a training session, that session may be cut short, but the animal will still receive all it's food. Dolphins aren't starved as a training technique. These lies and others like them are a desperate ploy by people with an opinion to make you change yours.
  5. The thing that's surprised me about this is I genuinely thought it was a new model when they brought it in to replace the original Enterprise. It must be bloody old if they don't know when it was originally manufactured. Also T-Bone, did Dreamworld open with Enterprise? I thought it was added later on?
  6. I think the whole distinction is an exercise in splitting hairs. I mean is it just a generic Sea theme throughout, or do some bits have a different theme to other bits? Is Castaway Bay themed to the same thing as Storm? Is the Colonial style themeing in the middle of the park different enough to the Florida resort style of the main entrance to warrant a different theme/feel? Do Shark Bay and Polar Bear Shores each count as their own themed land? Why not when Tiger Island does? What about the themeing on Break Beach Bay compared to Dolphin Cove? Does any of that count as themeing anyway? For me, near enough is good enough with Sea World; It's a theme park. I think people make the distinction because the whole park adheres to an overreaching theme rather than having themed 'lands', and I totally get that, but really, there are parts of the park themed differently to other parts, and it is a park with a theme. Good enough for me. Also, if Sea World is just a Marine Park with Rides then Movie World is just a Movie Park with rides. There aren't multiple attractions in a single themed area. Oh sure, Wild West Falls has a themed path to it, and there are a few superhero rides in an otherwise unthemed area, but on the whole, the park really just has a generic movie theme to it, without any real themed lands. You can point out WB Kids Land, but that's not really any different to Castaway Bay is it? Yeah, same with Sea World, they're both Theme Parks. Get over it, and have a nice day
  7. There's a serious part of me that wonders if Sea World lost any money on that joy flight overall (including paying the pilot and flying the aircraft back from Brisbane). Seriously though, have a read if you haven't already. The thing about this story and others like it that I don't fully understand, is that this man didn't do this spontaneously in a fit of rage, he clearly planned before hand, with a somewhat level head in an attempt to win back his kids, did he really think it would work?
  8. What do we reckon; Aussie World, Adventure World or other?
  9. The Village parks have the same style of map on their websites, if you compare the two styles they have you'll understand what's crap about the Dreamworld one. For me, the best explanation is that the type of map Dreamworld uses makes the park look like a bland, sterile, uninviting place, where as the in park village maps are more cartoony and make the park look more 'alive'. The village maps are just more fun to look at and study. This says nothing of the quality of the park. Personally, I think the reason the public likes the park is because they judge it for what it is; a big park with lots of rides, where as we judge it for what it could be; a big park with lots of rides and a 'magical' feel to it.
  10. Self promotion for the win!
  11. Here's one park, I'll have the other up in the next day or so. Joz Parks Canyon.zip
  12. I get the impression that if the Wild Wild West movie didn't come out at exactly the time it did, the ride would have been called 'Rio Bravo' instead. Really, nothing from the Will Smith movie made it into the ride. The preshow never mentions it, none of the themeing on the ride has anything to do with the movie. The only thing that hints at Wild Wild West is a billboard in Western Town, and the use of the song in the queue. Not exactly vital elements. As for Wild, the grapevine says it'll be a separate gate, and could take over dockside tavern and the kids rides. I hope this is untrue, and they build it in Oxenford behind Wet 'n' Wild where there is already sprawling unused land, rather than turning Sea World into a smaller park. It's pretty early days for Wild though, and given things are in flux as much as they are, it could go any direction.
  13. Righto, I'll fix it tonight
  14. Did you say the park files are missing?
  15. Scenery This should keep you busy for a while.
  16. If you're a fan of the first one, you'll like the second one. There are a few things about the first one I like better, but almost everything else is much better in the second. Once you've trained yourself the new way, you wonder how the manipulating vertices thing was ever a good idea. The displays in the editor which show you G's and speed so you can edit out high G's and know it won't stall without having to go into the simulator is pretty sweet, and honestly, the depump vertices and no lat gs options are two of the most useful things to be included in an editor ever. There are a couple of bad things, like you can't run the ride in the editor anymore, going between editor and Simulator is more of a pain in the arse now, and supports are still hard as hell On the whole though, I really like it. I think the thing I like the most is it just how stunning it looks. I mean honestly, check out these 2 in HD and tell me it doesn't look amazing:
  17. I've zipped the Canyon and Island parks, and put them up for download here. http://depositfiles.com/files/ipssbuc4t Put the files into the Scenarios folder. There is a lot of custom scenery in both parks, I'm uploading a bunch of it but it'll be a while before it uploads since there is a lot of it. Also since this thread is active, I thought I'd show off a couple of my new No Limits 2 videos. Enjoy!
  18. Yeah, no worries, which park(s)?
  19. Yeah I think reanimated is on the money. I don't think it's dead and it'll probably still see the light of day.
  20. Honestly, there is no constructive criticism which can be given. It's too expensive, and the market cannot support it. 'Oh but there'll be an online presence which will make money'. Seriously? Even if it became the hub of the entire internet it wouldn't be making enough money. The concept for the park is a boring EPCOT ripoff, with a few blatant Disney ripoffs thrown in. Honestly, it's like someone went on holiday to Orlando and thought 'I want to build something like this' and put all their half hearted ideas on a website. The ideas are poor, and anyone who gives this any money can't complain when the project collapses and you lose your money. And finally, remember, they may have laughed at Galileo, but they also laughed at a lot of mad people too. You my friend, are crazy. Have a Fantasmagomical day!
  21. Yeah, including AOS and to a lesser extent PC on the ticket is a really smart move.
  22. I hope it's not a $100 up charge that takes up a huge amount of real estate in an already landlocked park.
  23. Here's the thing though: not everything has to be a 'motivator'. A ride like shockwave is (debatably at least) a fine addition, because while it won't make or break a visit, it will make a visit just that little but better. You could make arguments about wether it's worth it or not, but I reject the argument that since it won't drive ticket sales it's better off not being in the park. Sometimes things can be added just to make the park better. I'm not going to get into the pros and cons of each attraction, (I mean who cares what I think?) but on the whole, there hasn't been an attraction for a long time that made people say 'Wow, that's awesome, I MUST go on that, and that's the problem with their investment choices.
  24. It's Summer. No park in the world closes popular attractions over the peak summer season.
  25. What I don't get about this is that if you're a billionaire, and this is a vanity project, surely you'd want to throw some money at it to make it good? Everything Palmer does (Gold Coast United, Palmersaurus, His Soccer Federation, plans to build a Zeppelin) just seems so half arsed. This isn't a theme park, it's a long boring walk around hotel grounds with model Dinosaurs, what a surprise that the reviews are awful. Also on the Disney thing, I found a quote attributed to Palmer: It's says a lot about what's going on in his head, and a serious contender for the stupidest thing ever said:
