  1. Luna Park have given a response regarding the news of Tango Train's impending demise. Good news is that it will be replaced with something, although maybe I am reading too much into it when they do not specifically mention "new ride" When pressed on the Flying Saucer site, they are still frustratingly close lipped, I have had that chestnut trotted out before..."best possible use for an amusement park". That would be a ride right?? RIGHT? Time will tell but it does appear that they are not intent on moving too quickly with this. This could mean that what is planned for the site requires lengthy, appropriate planning approval ( and after the Hair Raiser fiasco I am sure that LPS are keen to dot their I's and cross their T's) or that the planned replacement is quite major and could include some major construction and or movement of current buildings within the site. All speculation and all good to think about. Its interesting to note that the 2 sites are located directly next to each other, albeit the Flying Saucer site is ( at the moment) and elevated platform.
  2. Luna Park Sydney have confirmed that Tango Train will be retired and removed. The last rides are on the Anzac Day Long Weekend. To celebrate this, they are offering free rides on the old girl over the last weekend. Details here: http://comms.lunaparksydney.com.au/TheLastTango Hopefully they will introduce a new ride to replace this- the Tango Train had certainly built up quite a following and it was certainly a fun, family friendly ride.
  3. Oh you mean like this one on the Central Coast in between Sydney and Newcastle? Yeah its been reported on here before. There are only about 5 or so examples of these so far in the world and this is the only one in Australia to date....
  4. Indeed. Some steam trains are wood burners and others burn oil for their fuel.
  5. Exactly. I am very suspicious of the motives behind this. It was an ordinary proposal to begin with. Time has done nothing to convince me otherwise.
  6. As an aside also, it is interesting to note that Mystery Manor appears to be extending its tenure at the park. LPS own Mystery Manor , it is not a third party's attraction. It has been a great success since its introduction and has been quite popular so the decsion has been made to keep the attraction indefinitely. Time will tell if it becomes a permanent attraction but it is great to see the park develop in house attractions such as this. I went through Mystery Manor for the first time last Saturday. It is recommended for ages 12 and up and you must be a yellow band holder, although they will accept 10 years and over with an adult. We were there with a collecfive group of 5 x 10 year old boys and they were very keen to do it. After completing the walk thru, not one could be cajoled back for a return visit. A full day wrist band entitles you to 2 passes through Mystery Manor. I was very surprised at the level of detail inside-there were 3 performers inside and they were excellent with the crowd. They were certainly interacting well and the level of scares was good. Inside the walk thru, it was pleasantly air conditioned and you are certainly monitored on CCTV throughout the walk through, as you would expect. The only real issue with Mystery Manor is its terrible through put. Although quite short, only groups of 4 were let in at any given time. Whilst the lines were not terribly large, it was the attraction that invoked the longest queue waiting times of the day. LPS will need to work on this if it is to become a permanent addition. The attraction was run with 3 performers and one ride attendant, which is quite efficient for an attraction of this genre. Overall it is an excellent addition to LPS lineup. However I am not convinced it will have the legs or the buzz factor to be nothing more than a semi permanent , seasonal addition. Of course, having the ability to change the layout , scares and actors will help keep the attraction fresh. It would be brilliant as a Ghost train type attraction if it was mated to a ride system but this may not be a particularly popular idea, considering LPS tragic history with its former Ghost train. If they did however, and they kept it similar to the spirit of this attraction, it would have the potential to be one of Australia's Haunted attractions. Definitely an idea for the park to muse over!
  7. Don't get your hopes in this case for a coaster.Sources from the park have confirmed that they will be making an announcement shortly on the fate of the Tango train and their plans for the site. They ended cryptically with "this change wont be signalling the "last tango" at Luna Park. Perhaps they are replacing it with a newer model or a similar ride. As for the Flying Saucer space, they were equally as cryptic about this well. Whilst stopping short of saying that their future plans would definitely be for a new ride, they said that the space will be put to the best possible use for an amusement park.Hopefully they agree with the rest of us that the space and the park requires and needs another ride badly.
  8. That's the great thing about sarcasm. You can choose to ignore it at will or acknowledge its existence. Maybe the posters are now sitting and laughing at taking the piss out of the mods?
  9. Its done!!! Thankyou Mods for seeing reason. Obviously there were people who cared enough about it to request the change and agree the change was warranted. Time to carry on posting now. Hopefully we can see something definitive regarding the future status of Eureka over the coming 12 months. Here is a thought. If Dreamworld were to go ahead and refurbish and reopen Eureka, do you guys think they will take the route of a full name change like they have done with Cyclone/HWSD? Would you support this or would you rather it reopen under its old moniker?
  10. Might as well add a few more to the count..........
  11. It would make more sense to now change the title of the thread from 2015 to 2016. Since Dreamworld has never actually definitively stated that they actually are reopening the ride, the speculation around it should continue to in to 2016, therefore the time change makes logical sense.
  12. The Pirate's Revenge was there last year. It was the second time it had appeared during the Xmas Holiday period.
  13. Although LPS do rotate their holiday ride options, they do tend to stick to 2 or three operators. The Freak out is operated by B & B Amusements although they have used others in the past. I certainly hope that they will utilise the Crazy Spinning Coaster one year for their holiday rides. This would be a good litmus test for LPS to attain a second coaster, especially if the Crazy Coaster proves very popular.
  14. Yep as stated in the other thread they are indeed their annual holiday rides. The Mystery Manor is staying for an extended season. The Freak Out will also be returning after a 2 year absence. The Rock'n'Tug will also make an appearance for the little ones. Couple these on the all ride pass and the Swim and Spew option of swimming at nearby North Sydney Pool then this adds up to a full day of fun and great value indeed. 15. Great trip report thankyou!! I have been considering doing this with my kids since it is so close to me ( I live in Newcastle) One question- looking at the website it seems relatively expensive- given the cost of this activity, do you deem it worth the price of admission? The below video gives a good visual representation of the actual ride.
  16. Hehehehe...looks like you need to get out a little bit more mate. These are all pretty well known , franchised brands and businesses.
  17. Hmm I would say that the hundreds of Mexican themed restaurants around Australia would disagree with you on this one. I certainly do. Of course a Burrito is a restaurant standard food. Why on earth would it not be?
  18. You meant 2017 and 2019 right? 2015 is nearly over..just saying. :
  19. I was there on the Friday night at the Deck for a work function JulieLovis- the crowd was pumping!! The park looked fantastic - the lights and the atmosphere were excellent. Unfortunately , since I did not have a ticket, I could not enter the park to have a look for myself at the mazes up close so I am really looking forward to your pics! In other news, Luna Park have confirmed that their holiday rides for this year will be the Freak Out and the Rock " N Tug. The Freak Out is an excellent ride and is the first pendulum/swing ride with only lap bars that I have been on- it is very forceful and having only lap bar restraints certainly gives a different feeling! Also confirmed as staying for this holiday period is the Mystery Manor which I am very much looking forward to seeing and experiencing first hand. JulieLovis what were your impressions of this attraction? Will be visiting the park ( as always on our annual family trip) in January, so will definitely post a trip report after the event. There is still no word on the utilisation of the Flying Saucer space or replacement. Hopefully this will be worked on for 2016.
  20. Great find Iwerks. Yep that was the much lamented Chipmunk. It was moved to the US to a small park where it was renamed Treetop Racers. it wss was scrapped only very recently. Goode memories.
  21. Have to agree. This is a massive shame. First the Train now the Skyway. Hard to look at this in any positive way other than a massive downgrade and loss of infrastructure within the park. Sad to see that management has let this happen and make this decision. Will certainly be very unpopular with everyone- families and theme park enthusiasts alike. I wonder what the reason could be for its demise- surely it would have been economically viable to keep running? Could the ride be upgraded with new gondolas and motors for a reasonable price, if the will to retain was there?
  22. The Big Banana Water park has opened. Although small at this stage, it looks quite good and will make The Big Banana a great destination for families on a stopover to the Gold Coast. If this does well , I would say that the potential for expansion is huge. Good luck to them,
