Loved the Paddle Steamer back in the day, "back in the day" being the operative phrase here. As for what you'd see from that "new perspective": a glimpse at Steel Taipan followed by a reminder that the Tower of Terror is gone, the Log Ride is gone, the animal section is still somehow there, then a whole lot of nothing, a buffet that's been closed for 2 years, then a poorly maintained kids area and then back to the start. Oh and turtles. Much as I hate to admit it, the Dreamworld of today doesn't need a paddle steamer any more, sure it'd earn a bunch of nostalgia points for those of us who grew up with it (and our parents) but along the list of priorities for the park redoing the paddle steamer is like one of the last things that needs to be done if you're going to make a list of things to do to make Dreamworld what it was. Family water rides heck yes, put 'em in yesterday. Big old boat that looks at nothing, no thanks.

Since a couple of people have hinted (or downright said) that the three coasters are going to be off the shelf and non custom I'd love for all of them to be completely indoor coasters. I know there's already Scooby Doo, but I think an entirely indoor, themed precinct would be pretty amazing (and helpful on rainy/hot days). Plus I don't know if there's another example of an indoor suspended coaster so it could be a 'world's first' to add to the advertisements.

I'm putting my money on Joker/Harley Quinn for the the duelling and Batman for the "suspended".

If you're replacing a thrilling roller coaster like AA with family attractions, that's the issue. If this were a replacement for Loony Tunes River Ride then there'd be no issue. Obviously the park might have plans for a more thrilling roller coaster a long way off in the future but the fact they're putting in three roller coasters and none of them are big impact thrill rides makes it even less likely we'll see an impactful coaster any time soon. But at the end of the day it's all about expectations and desires, this is absolutely smart business for Movie World and for families but until I see how well themed the area is this "announcement" is a little underwhelming.

Better for business not better for anything else. Plus there was no need to "answer" my previous post, I was just expressing my personal preference, you were the one who thought it needed "answering" and going as far as calling an opinion "ill informed". It'll just be "Movie World has the most roller coasters of any theme park in Australia!" Which is already true, but having 8 roller coasters instead of 5 is something no other theme park in Australia will ever be able to contend with short of a Six Flags park appearing in the country.

I'd hardly call two of the same family coaster and boomerangs at that "full sized coasters", that seems fairly "ill informed" to me. I completely understand why they're doing it, Australian theme parks are always trying to get the click bait Average Joe punter to take notice and adding ~three new roller coasters~ is about as good a click bait they can get without having to spend B&M money.

I'm sure new Vekomas are perfectly fine but I'd take a B&M over 3 vekomas any day.

Sounds like it's going to be an Arkham Asylum themed precinct with different villains as the rides, which I guess makes sense considering the theming that's already in place. Could tie into Doomsday as well. Interesting.

Well if its true that it's 3 new "family" coasters that's a bit disappointing. The only thing that would redeem the idea is if the new area is heavily themed like the one at Phantasialand in Germany.

I've gotta be honest, I didn't even realise Vekoma still made suspended inverting coasters anymore. Hopefully it's a custom design/layout and not something 'off the shelf'.

Suspended or Inverted? My Roller Coaster Tycoon brain read that and made me think this:

I won't dispute that themed attractions are better, I've been to Tokyo Disneyland and Sea multiple times and almost any single large attraction is better than anything at any Australian park. That's not the issue, the issue is Movie World (and Dreamworld too, not just throwing shade at one park) will never spend the money theming something as well as a Disney park (and I'm sure you could argue that no one except Disney and Universal could afford to anyway). So if the move has been away from theming, then they need to go all-in on fixing up their heavy down-time rides (so Doomsday needs to go in the bin) and they should put all their money into high capacity coasters (B&M pls). Family parks may indeed 'make bank' but they need to 'spend bank' to get them to be something at a level that doesn't seem cheap and throwaway otherwise you end up looking like Dreamworld; some weird hybrid of former thrill ride heavy park and mediocre themed family areas.

I'll say this much, as someone who hasn't been able to get back to the GC parks for a long while (not just because of Covid but other reasons) but who used to frequent them almost monthly when I lived up there, Dreamworld still has a lot of catching up to do with what it offers compared to what it had, and at its most basic that's a bad place to be. Even without the bad stigma from the TRRR losing SEVEN attractions in the space of as many years would be unthinkable except for the fact it happened. Adding a single coaster as a bandaid is all well and good, but they need to add another ride every year for the foreseeable future if they're wanting to recapture the 'magic' their park once had. As for Movieworld, poor operations and maintenance issues aside closing the Loony Tunes River Ride was their biggest ever mistake imo. Every cent that went into things like Doomsday Destroyer and the revamp of Scooby Doo should have went into restoring and maintaining the Loony Tunes River Ride and I say this as someone who loathes nostalgia baiting. While there seems to be a few decently themed options in the park, they're almost at the point of worth going the Six Flags route and just investing in high capacity, expensive roller coasters to compliment Superman Escape, Green Lantern and DC Rivals rather than catering to families and expansive themed rides since they clearly don't care that much about them anymore.

I mean, just say it's Australia's tallest, fastest, longest, most-inverting single rail coaster and then no-one can argue semantics.

Oh wow, I honestly forgot about the chair swing! Great ride, probably rode it every time I visited.

I didn't add any ride that was built after or around 2005 as that didn't fit my criteria of having had a yearly pass during that period. I only rode Eureka once and didn't care for it. I didn't add Blue Lagoon because I honestly can't remember going in anything except the pool (so no slides). If I missed another ride or attraction it was either because I didn't ride it or it didn't leave an impression on me.

Careful about slagging off the Giant Drop theming too much, lest they they knock down the whole tower like they did with most of their other thrill rides these last couple of years! Truthfully though, the Giant Drop is/was a great name, but it being themed to 'oil' (specifically the big black tower being a surging geyser of oil - 'least I think that's what they were going for) was a ludicrously weak "theme". It doesn't need a theme, it's a drop tower, literally a 'giant drop', people will ride it because its a focal point thrill ride not because of what sits around the base and in the queue line.

Forgive me if this is stupid question, but how can individual seats be out of commission on so many trains on so many different rides? Are these design flaws, vandalism or just neglect? It seems a bit weird, I don't ever remember this ever being a thing on rides or roller coasters back in the day late 90's, early 2000's when I visited the GC theme parks almost once a month.

As far as what rides/attractions I rode the most at Dreamworld from the late 90's to the mid 00's when I lived on the Gold Coast and had a yearly pass it was the following. Rode every visit: River Rapids Log Ride Vintage Cars Chairlift Stingray Rode almost every visit: Paddlesteamer Enterprise Dreamworld Cinemas Rode every other visit: Train Gravitron Country Jamboree Only rode it a few times because I was either too young or too scared: Avalanche Thunderbolt Wipeout Tower of Terror Now that I've spent half an hour writing this list I wonder what the point of it was and maybe if it even deserves its own thread but whatever it is what it is...

I wouldn't even pay $15 but that's just me. People are clearly willing to pay so the parks will keep charging.

End of an era, will this be the last time we see rusted corrugated iron used as theming at Dreamworld?

A logo featuring even less rides than the original one, seems appropriate considering the state of the park.
