  1. Ah that's a shame, would make more some nice snaps if you're into theme park aerials and all that, which I am. Oh wells.
  2. I'd love to go up there on a climb and take in the park, studios etc, take some pics etc, just a tad pricey, but the concept itself I like!
  3. I think Movie World is great and OP just seems nit-picky. I mean sure, Dreamworld is a bit eh, but Movie World is fine and certainly up with international standards in my books.
  4. I didn't say this application had objections that were all the same, I said some applications do (though, even despite that, the applications here basically all say the same thing - 'it's going to flood'). And you know what, if it floods, fine, don't built it. That, however, is far from a given. The 'company' engages specialists to build parks, and they are the same specialists that work on other Gold Coast projects so they do 'know what they're doing'. This is par for the course on the Gold Coast, what, you think the developers of big projects like Jewel or Spirit have local knowledge? Of course not, why would they? They pay for that and they get that. Despite the delusions of NIMBYs that Tom Tate and the Chinese are running riot, the fact is, stuff gets approved or not approved by the book. End of the day, it will either technically stack up or it won't, and that will be decided by specialists not local residents who have their own interests in mind and are only out to spread fear, uncertainly and doubt about the project. I don't even particularly like this project, I think the cultural element will be a fail, but the typical incessant whinging from the NIMBYs has me rooting for the developers here. BTW, I removed that picture because it wasn't relevant, they mention it will be the largest ski park in the world so I showed that park for reference but I think that's hyperbole when it comes to its size.
  5. Some changes (from the Bully): A GIANT fibreglass Uluru and a replica of the Captain Cook’s HMS Endeavour are gone from the latest plans, but Chinese theme park developer Songcheng still hopes to build the world’s biggest indoor ski centre on its 45ha site at Carrara. The preliminary designs have also swapped a quirky man-made network of boat-filled waterways for an expansion and rejuvenation of existing wetland areas, which the company says say will mitigate the risk of exacerbated flood levels from the site.
  6. Good, they should support it! As if the NIMBY's on the coast don't do the same thing when they oppose projects though - so many objections you see look almost identical. Look at how they stopped the ASF Casino on the Spit, the organisation of NIMBYs far exceeds that of any proponents of projects. At least groups like Garuda will invest billions of dollars into the GC, go have a look at their Southport project 'Star of the Sea' it's a great look project and will be iconic for Southport.
  7. If you're protesting something it's not good to have as your main argument something that the other side can negate with a consultant report. Anyway, it won't be approved if it floods so it's a pointless point to protest.
  8. Looks good, way better than before. I would cycle the main image though (the Tweety Bird) with other shots as well, I mean they got a lot of cool content and IP to play with after all!
  9. I think it's fine given DW's limited funds. They have limited resources during a recovery phase and need to allocate them in the most efficient manner and where they will bring maximum impact - if the engineers give it a tick then why throw more money into it when you could use that money elsewhere.
  10. Wow, this place really is paranoia central. No, I just don't like people who are for no reason against a project that will bring major investment to the Gold Coast and new attractions. ATM, it's a field, anything is better than what is there now. Maybe you're against it because you have an interest in maintaining the status quo? How is that for a more likely scenario? Frankly I wonder if some people on here just don't want any new competition on the coast or maybe they're just xenophobic against Chinese investment? And I can list tens of of thousands that succeeded. This is a normal application process.
  11. Okay, I realise you don't like this project but try and be logical. It's not a residential project, it's a multi-use project that includes entertainment facilities like a ski-field, theatres, boat riders that's why there is a thread on it. Council gave them a complex information request to respond to, it takes many months to compile that sort of information and now it's with council again. This is not a simple project, consultants have to actually get this to work, you do understand that don't you? This DA, contrary to what you wish, is progressing, (and for the record I have no connection to this project but the negativity on here is a pretty pathetic).
  12. Songcheng's Australian Legends World has been quietly progressing along, now out to public notice:
  13. Really bad reporting, anyone who reads that headline could be mistaken for thinking it was an accident at the park, when it was just a run of the mill tradie accident off site.
  14. I've worked there and would not recommend going. It's fine if nothing goes wrong because on the surface it looks like a developed country with its infrastructure, but it's just a facade, behind that it's legal system and other governmental institutions have a long way to go and when things go wrong there you can really end up up sh1t creek without a paddle. So yeah, it's fine if you (1) stay out of trouble and (2) don't have any accidents, the first you can control, the second is a game of chance so depends if you want to roll the dice.
  15. Honestly, I'd love if it converted back into an IMAX cinema. I miss SEQ not having IMAX anymore:( Would be great for big film premieres.
  16. The DC Rivals site looks great. Main site is a bit dated but I'm sure they'll get to it, it's not one of those things you can just whip together in WIX.
  17. He seems like a decent bloke but you can only do as much as your given the funds to do. I think he's on the right path but any additional money would be accelerant in terms of growth. They don't have to do a DC Rivals, but dark rides and general continued sprucing up would go a long way. Ultimately, would be great if Ardent could get a partner that is loaded.
  18. Everyone in the media is trying to kick their boot into DW atm it seems, I mean I'd like to see how these people would fair in an enclosure with a wild animal that could kill them and that doesn't respond to nicey-nicey all the time, oh that's right, they'd be dead.
  19. I think Top Golf will be fun, I have no interest in normal golf but Top Golf looks entertaining. I'm not complaining about more attractions in any case, the more the merrier!
  20. So was Simon Kelly pro or anti investing in DW? From what I read he and Gary Weiss from Ariadne didn't get a long, considering Ariadne want Ardent to invest more in DW this could be a good thing no?
  21. I went to Fright Nights for the first time at Movie World and as a newbie to such things it was much better than I thought it would be - the park was full, the atmosphere was great and the there were a few frights, so you got what you paid for. Quite an impressive production on the whole I thought, especially against the backdrop of the newly opened DC Rivals at night the park really felt like it was firing on all cylinders.
  22. Dazzleland was lame and the whole Myer Centre in Adelaide was such an epically dumb idea. How much did it cost back then, I've heard the actual figure was 1 billion, so like 2 billion probably in today's money. It's worth a fraction of that now. You could build a major, major park for that, heck you could build Movie World, Sea World and Dream World for that. It's these sort of dumb ideas that set Adelaide back, just throwing money away.
  23. The Gold Coast has room for about 2 more big parks, that's the opinion of the GCCC and various talks of various kinds have occurred over the years, it's hard to get all the ducks in a row to get a new park up though. All the same, I feel we'll see another big park proposed sooner rather than later.
