Ardent Leisure CEO Simon Kelly resigns after six months
DREAMWORLD’S parent company Ardent has lost its second CEO in six months, with Simon Kelly resigning suddenly just days after the first anniversary of the tragedy on the Thunder River Rapids. Mr Kelly, who was also the group’s Managing Director, announced his resignation in a statement to the ASX this morning. what new ride at movie world will we get next year?
I don’t think you’ll ever solve the problem of a wet floor in the change rooms of a water park... so you have to be dry before you get changed? In which case, why get changed? Why not change, then go sit down and dry your feet before you put shoes on? It’s a little like going to the beach and complaining you don’t like having sand on your feet

what new ride at movie world will we get next year?
I don’t expect any large expenditure from MW for at least 3 years. We know we are getting a major attraction at SW in 2019, so I imagine 2018 will see only minor works across all parks... MW - would be nice to see HWSD finally run its last race and be replaced with a new experience. A new kids flat for WB Kids would be a nicer top off but not expected SW - improved food offerings would be nice. I think their options are poor, but that’s just me. WnW is Due, something, anything.

Justice League effects stop before ride ends
I’ve had it happen from time to time. I’ve been stopped mid ride a few times for a couple mins while it ‘resets’ though the guns don’t score again after such an occurrance. I’ve also had times where I seem to arrive at the scenes earlier than I should (ie arrived at the screen and it was still at the end of what the last car should have seen before they left). It it was an unscheduled closure when I was there Monday at lunchtime, ride ops at the gate said it should reopen later but was having some technical issues - I didn’t stay long enough to see if it did reopen later or not

Let's be honest about Topgolf
I see it being targeted to corporate groups and parties/bucks more so than your pro or casual golfer. I can see a lot of people giving it a go as it is a lot different to Victoria Park or your standard driving range. I won’t rush to it, but I’ll definitely give it a whirl with some mates. It makes it another destination other than the pub for the spirts bar concept etc

White Christmas 2017
It would be pretty wicked if they did a re-enactment of the Gotham tree lighting from Batman Returns... maybe the gaps are to install the boxes to hold the bats ready for release....

Fright Nights 2018
7 mazes.. most people struggle to get through 4 without fast pass.. The Nun is basically the Conjuring again RE7 is an abomination of a movie (not unlike the previous 6). No need to immortalise that shit in a maze CITW doesn’t lend itself that well to a maze IMO... it’s basically Evil Dead which we had 3 years back IT and TWD I’m down for

That’s statistically incorrect as today I’ve spoken to my parents in Sydney and my mate in China. They are not in, or on, the Gold Coast

Ok.. so can someone fill me in on what I have missed.. why is MW ridiculously busy today?? Came down with my son for a quiet Monday in the park... nope. Had to park on the last row of the car park and can’t move in the park... it isn’t school holidays, it’s not a pupil free day, it’s not a public holiday, yet the kids area has queues spilling out onto walkways

Fright Nights 2018
Cult* of Chucky?? First wtf is that, secondly no. Adults running around a maze dressed as Chucky? Ummm no... lame dolls?? How do you envision that being pulled off successfully? im hoping for something special next year, I really am. Another substandard event and the brand will start to lose some of its gloss and acclaim.

Dreamworld sits in a state of limbo following its toughest year ever
Insurance and negligence are an odd couple. If I don’t maintain my car and am driving with bald tyres & my brake pads are worn to the metal, and I have a blowout at 110km on the highway and slam into a guardrail, you reckon my insurer will pay for the damage? Nope... they’ll inspect my car, claim it wasn’t maintained to a reasonable state and wipe their hands of any claim... IF Dreamworld is ultimately found negligent, then more than likely the insurers will push for a non-payout and breach of insurance contract... Ardent will then be liable for any payouts associated, and re-payment of any already paid out by insurers. If the park lost crew off their maintenance teams after the incident, they have had 12 months to re-hire & train. There is zero acceptability to that being an excuse a year later

Remember when you used to go to DW and you wanted to take photos of rides or scenery etc and used to get frustrated because people kept walking in front of you just as you were about to take the ‘moneyshot’... ... these days you purposely wait for someone to walk into frame and then take the shot to prove you ain’t the only person in the park....

At the park now and absolutely LOVE the new upcharge attraction $20 for 15 minute tinny hire on the river, including high-vis shirt hire! Half price discount if you take a net and remove some algae while you are out there And the kangaroos and emu’s have recently been replaced with.. bobcats..

Yeah I’m totally sure VTP is super keen on the financial outlay required to purchase and basically re-invent DW, all with the aim of dimishing their current competitive advantage held by MW... there are times when having a monopoly on a market is counter-productive. This would be one such time.

Fright Nights 2017
Agree with the above ‘best mazes’. Film Vault & Evil Dead probably the best imo... i also thought The Walking Dead was great (even though at the time I had never seen the show), the use of good scenes and changes of directions etc were great

Fright Nights 2017
Before the current incarnation of FNs it was a more family/young kid friendly event, but that changed about 6 or so years back, I don’t think parents are that naive to think it’s still that way, more so they think their children won’t be negatively impacted by that imagery (and they may not). I personally wouldn’t take a 5 year old there, but I can’t speak for others choices.

DC Rivals advertising on public transport
To add another VTP marketing fail...I noticed there were ‘made for tv’ (digitally added) billboards for Rivals on the track fencing during the GC600 2 weeks ago. All it was the logo, and it only took up about 60% of the available black rectangle it was added on. If I wasn’t familiar with the logo and what it was, it would have been completed missed or misunderstood. I can almost guarantee any person not familiar seeing that around the county would I have had zero clue what it was

Whilst I understand the economic benefit of them moving to restricted hours (weekends/holidays) I think that does more harm than having out of action rides, on the proviso the out of action rides are well referenced online and at park entry so people know what they are paying for. Day entry fees shouldn’t be a dollar over $40 for adults based on the current offering (something they’ve realised with the 30 for $30 offer). Moving to weekend trade negates about half their workforce, which results in redundancies which won’t help them with any positive media or community goodwill. I just think they need to make a decision and either invest some serious money in now, not in 12 months, or just put a For Sale sign out the front
