  1. 'Cabins & stuff' are nothing to do with MW, they are for PC (unless you're referring to the hotel proposal currently before council). Why would the coaster be timed to the opening of cabins anyway? Did I miss the research that linked roller coaster fans with a preference to cabin-style accommodation?
  2. 'I'm kidding' isn't an acceptable throw away line to combat stupidity...
  3. So which is it? "You don't think so" or "i can confirm" (ie. I know for fact)
  4. Boxing Day is traditionally a busy theme park day. I was very surprised to see a more than 1/2 empty DW car park as I drove past at 11am
  5. Tijuana Taxis? Seriously? Haha. Rushing in for that one! reactive move to try and counter DW's extended hours. Fail. how many rides of BSS and AA could you get in in the 90mins before the rest of the park opens? I reckon 10 AA and 20 BSS. Max 50 people in the park.
  6. Haha... How ridiculous Movieworld & DW should be at that price point. Considering the Additional costs and exchange here vs US how could you expect prices to be 50% cheaper? what you personally can afford and value are very different
  7. 1. I don't see a Disney park coming to Australia in the next 20 years 2. Why would they have to drop prices to meet our market prices for annual passes? Would you be happy with them dropping their standards and ride theming to that of Dreamworld and Movieworld? what makes Disney is the attention to detail, immersion in theme, and that comes at a cost, a significant one.
  8. Wow... We're really getting desperate for updates when we're playing the "what will this sign say" game..
  9. Pic uploads usually don't work for me either. Get that same error message. Tried to upload 12 photos from WC and only 2 would upload
  10. GL closed. Cycling empty trains.
  11. Probably use our posts as "sources" or "insiders" who wish to not be named
  12. Not really anything we haven't all found out ourselves but the media has finally caught onto the DA's. New roller coaster, hotel and lakeside attraction planned for Movie World ANDREW POTTS AND KATHLEEN SKENE GOLD COAST BULLETIN DECEMBER 19, 2015 12:00AM Gold Coast Titans players William Zillman and Luke Douglas on the Superman ride at Movie World. Picture: Adam Head A NEW rollercoaster is planned for Movie World, with the theme park’s operators lodging development applications with the city council. A nine-storey hotel and a “new attraction and lakeside precinct” are also planned for the Movie World site, according to three building applications lodged with the Gold Coast City Council by Village Roadshow. The Gold Coast Bulletin understands the hotel is planned to be nine storeys and will be built on what is now a carpark fronting Oxenford’s Entertainment Rd. The applications — including “stage 1 — early works” for the hotel building, new attraction and lakeside precinct, as well as building approval for a roller coaster, were privately certified and lodged between November 17 and December 3. Movie World’s popular Green Lantern ride in action this week. Picture: Mike Batterham A spokesman for Village Roadshow would not provide further details on the project as it was “commercial-in-confidence” but at the annual general meeting a month ago co-chairman Robert Kirby said the new attraction that would be “one of the world’s best”. “We continue to invest in our theme parks, constantly refreshing our special events and attractions to ensure we maintain our premium position and give people a new reason to visit,” he said. “In the coming months we will be announcing an exciting new attraction for the Gold Coast, which we expect will be one of the world’s best theme park drawcards.” The ride will be the latest in a swath of new attractions which include Dreamworld’s new offerings, the Hot Wheels Side Winder, Peter Brock collection — due to launch on Boxing Day — and two new tiger cubs. Dreamworld has introduced two new female tiger cubs to the public, they are sisters to Kai who was born earlier this year. Picture: David Clark The Village Roadshow theme park sites are zoned as special facilities under legislation dating back to the Bjelke-Petersen era when they were originally approved in the 1980s. Area councillor William Owen-Jones said he supported the proposed expansion. “We as a council are pretty keen to encourage Movie World to build accommodation on this site,” he said. “It is a world-class family fun park and the idea of adding accommodation to it is really exciting.” Of the Gold Coast’s four theme parks, just one already has a resort — Sea World. On-site accommodation facilities at theme parks are a major feature of Disney’s resorts across the world. Disney California Adventure which is part of Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. Photo: Andrew McPhee It’s not the first time a hotel has been proposed for the Village Roadshow precinct. A decade ago a developer proposed a $100 million art-deco Hollywood-themed hotel resort. It was to be a four-level resort with 154 apartment called Hollywood Boulevard, featuring a palm tree-lined driveway reminiscent of grand 1930s-style Californian hotels but the project never went ahead.
  13. Nope, I always head for the back row. Was out in under 5mins tonight
  14. The map would be useless if Main St was covered with a big grey rectangle. How would you know what's under it?
  15. At WC - Scooby hasn't opened tonight, unfortunate bad timing! Going to feel the crowds a lot more with it not open to absorb a large chunk throughout the night
  16. Am I reading that correctly that Chinatown alley has re-opened (well partially?)
  17. It has a Motorsport WALK THRU attraction, I'm surprised you are not harping this as the greatest addition in the history of Australian theme parks
  18. I do agree with your comments Alex. 12-18 months ago I wouldn't have been so pedantic about them doing a 'complete' job, and been happy that we got something improved on some level. I guess in my mind the refurbs especially around their dining options have been top notch recently so I wanted/wished that standard to continue as they moved along with new attractions and/or renewals.
  19. Cool - so lets just put a rule in place that we can't talk about rides still in development or closed for maintenance until they re-open and have personally ridden them. Or, can we only comment if we are happy? If you read my original post, I actually gave the park a big wrap, and have done so many times recently. I just think more could have been done in the time Cyclone been closed. Simple as that. I'm not saying it's a bad ride though. How can I comment on the new trains when I haven't sat in them!?!? Are you actually reading my posts or are you inventing an argument? My issue (once again) is that DW has been putting a lot of effort into their theming, aesthetics, park appearance of late, and I think not re-painting the ride is step backwards from the standards they have set recently. That's all!
  20. i didn't say they did a bad job. I've said they've done a sub-par job on the overall re-theme. keeping the existing queue house as is (structure wise) and not repairing the track for mine is sub-par. I don't need to sneak behind closed doors to see that.
