VR was a distributor of Films, whilst also owning their own cinema chains. this just means they won’t be the distributor. Has absolutely nothing to do with what films are shown in cinemas

Dreamworld studios and the old blue lagoon site were different things, albeit near each other. I believe the toilet blocks at blue lagoon were used for the live audience at the shows.

Had to laugh, on one of the largest GC community pages on fb, someone had a whinge that WWW has moved to seasonal and that their $99 pass is a massive rip off and should be discounted now. what’s more ridiculous is how many people are agreeing with her saying $99 is far too expensive for a year pass. the industry is doomed with idiots like this...

You’ve haven’t been to DW in a while have you? BRC isn’t a deadend, it leads back to TI and DE. no one is going to walk to the RHLR as it’s closed and the only thing there. Sidewinder is at the end of a path and is closed so no one is walking down to it. ditto Buzzsaw.

Review: Dreamworld’s post-covid reopening falls flat There were massive lines for Dreamworld’s reopening after a six-month coronavirus shutdown. But many visitors were disappointed when they finally got inside. The usual raucous of thrill-ride squeals was reduced to just a buzz for Dreamworld’s long-awaited reopening with signature rides closed and the park littered with ‘attraction unavailable signs’. Kids were dancing with excitement on the front lawn and punters were lined up in the hundreds at 10am, but once through the gates some thrill seekers – myself included – were left scratching their heads. Scream-inducing rides The Giant Drop and Buzz Saw had closed for maintenance – set to reopen on September 23 – while the Sidewinder rollercoaster has closed until October 30 as part of a longer remodel of the park. Just The Claw remained open for serious thrillseekers. “There was also Mick Doohan‘s Motocoaster and Tail Spin but they aren’t fast enough,” a teenage boy leaving the park at lunchtime said. He said “it was a bit of a bummer” and I had to agree. It wasn’t the Dreamworld I remembered. The entire ‘Corroboree’ section of the park had also been closed as part of the park’s covid-safe plan, meaning no animal viewings or popular Australian Sheep Shearing Show for visitors. Also closed due to COVID-19 was the Dreamworld Express, Mad Jungle Jam playground, and ABC Kids World, and, adding insult to injury, it was announced The Big Red Car and FloRider have both been permanently retired. It was not all bad news: There were hardly any queues for the rides that were open, even with time allowed for staff to sanitise between each ride. Families with young children looked to be having a fantastic time and one little girl was celebrating her birthday with her first visit to Dreamworld. The Tiger Island presentations at midday were a huge crowd-pleaser, as was the King Julian’s Theatre children’s show. And the Sky Voyager simulation across natural wonder of the United States was world-class entertainment. The quality of that ride gave me great hope for what Dreamworld will deliver in coming months and years, once the park’s top rides reopen. Across the road at WhiteWater World, all of the rides and pools were open and punters of all ages were having a brilliant time facing absolutely no lines. My memories of WhiteWater World involve a lot of time waiting in packed queues on metal staircases to get just one turn, so it came as quite a surprise to me that at 1pm on a sunny 24C day there were just a couple of dozen visitors at the water park. So the ocean parade rides are now surrounded by water? You swim from one to the other? or did the river get infilled and they’ve chosen the same colouring for the concrete to what they previously use in ocean parade? as I can’t tell the difference between what is a body of water, and what is a walkway... It’s like Six Flags after Hurricane Katrina...

When I moved to the GC in 2006 I remember paying around $350 each for mine & my partners VTP passes, they had a monthly payment option. Wasn’t a DW pass holder back then so not sure what they were charging.

From an article in the GCB today about DWs opening this week.. “Construction of a new $32 million rollercoaster, reaching speeds of more than 100km/hr, will start next month with the attraction on track to open late next year.”

I also think any thought of an early 2021 vaccine is fanciful. Mid-late 2021 is possible, but it’s far from guaranteed. Was only a few decades ago the medical field were confident they’d have a viable vaccine for HIV within 12 months, 30+ Years later and it still isn’t here. I also don’t think uptake if a vaccine is found is going to be anywhere near what the government predicts/wants. People are a lot more vary of injecting things into themselves if their kids that are “fast-tracked” without time for any mid-long term effects to be known. Any No Jab-No Travel policies that will no doubt be rolled out by the government will also harper recovery as it will limit who can come to the coast, and pressure may even come onto operators themselves to adopt no vax-no entry.

Happy to see this as a point of difference for regular visitors. I am assuming this is just a direct port of an offering at different site, but that’s no issue and keeps the costing down no doubt. Keeping the original for certain times each day is also a good move I believe so first time visitors get that experience

One is manufacturing. One is an entertainment service provider. worlds of difference. We lost the car manufacturing industry because our wage structures preclude the ability to provide a competitive priced alternative to the Asian imports.

What does a “Behind The Scenes” version of that show looks like? There isn’t any crazy effects, intricate sets to elaborate on etc. What exactly as they showing you that is “behind the scenes?” who asked for a behind the scenes version of what was already rubbish?

ToT hasnt been gone long enough to be missed really. ditto Wipeout, not that I will ever long for that to return and it’ll be like for like (basically) replaced by Vortex. I do wish I could ride Bush Beast again, but I’ll be getting a better replacement in the next 12 months in Leviathan. LTRR & BT in their glory would be welcomed attractions in any park in the country. I’ll always hold the nostalgia and fun of those in my heart, and I only wish my son had got to enjoy them. tbh and I’ll probably get boo’ed for this, but my most missed rides are some of the flats that were at Wonderland that I grew up on and loved. I’m sure nostalgic value in my mind escalates these beyond what they were, but rides like the Tassie Devil and HMS Endeavour were fun, exciting, family friendly but still thrilling and don’t have similar counterparts anywhere.

Having a population of 1 billion people vs 25 million certainly helps... as does being surrounded by other populous nations that don’t require long haul flights to reach you

There is zero financial sense for Disney in opening a park here. We won’t have the population, nor the international tourist numbers, to make it viable let alone profitable.
