Wet n Wild SurfRider taken off website
CR4ZE replied to Natti_amusements's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Hardly a loss. There's another smokers' area at the back of the wild west area, and the walk is maybe four minutes on a busy day. The cardio might do them some good.- 406 replies

I vaguely remember there being no fans installed on the ceiling when I visited, but I could be wrong. They certainly were not in use the day of my visit.

Quick question re Superman queue. Last time I visited the park was January 2020. My biggest grievance of the day was the lack of air conditioning in the queue building. The queue was a furnace the day I visited. And, of course, the shitty locker policy, so no water bottle on my person. Has this been fixed? Do they run A/C in the building properly now?

Is there a reason for such a large interim between different phases of the job? Repainting started in January. I would think (not an expert) that a repaint could be done in as little as weeks, not months...

Wizard of Oz - Movie World Arkham Asylum Replacement
CR4ZE replied to Park Addict 93's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Of course there will be some revision, by virtue of it being concept art in the first place. An artist's impression needs to make approximations to increase the visual impact and communicate the vision in a concise fashion. Actual scale of the rides, path layouts, scenery pieces and so on are all subject to change. I actually prefer the element of mystery anyway as it creates more intrigue. If anything, the Atlantis concepts did Leviathan little justice as the renderings (though pushing beyond the realm of plausibility with the rockwork and waterfalls) told nothing of the theme, station and queue experience. I hope so. I probably sound like a broken record, but the precinct really wouldn't feel "complete" to me without one or two small flats. In my dream scenario, these would be added in time for opening day, and I think the cost increase would be negligible. A couple extra million on a cyclone-themed Nebulaz and I'd be happy. Call me an idealist. A man can dream. -

Wizard of Oz - Movie World Arkham Asylum Replacement

Do they have some insight that we don't? I'm not saying they're wrong. In fact, I'd expect nothing less, frankly. All bets are off as to what the final product will look like, but Leviathan is a good indicator that we can have measured hope for something great. -

Fair. Do you have links to any of the IAAPA research? I'd be interested to read into it. -
Wet n Wild SurfRider taken off website
CR4ZE replied to Natti_amusements's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Because Atlantis and Oz are significantly more substantive additions that were planned out over years and required nearly a hundred million dollars in investment between them. This is the relocation of a more than 15-year old attraction that Village hitherto had no idea what to do with, that was literally rusting into obsolescence until they decided to take a reactionary measure. There is no parallel. Nobody, by the way, is unhappy in theory, as the relocation makes a good deal of sense, but you'd be foolish to anticipate that this would approach anywhere near the considered (and costly) planning and development of the larger additions.- 406 replies

False. @DaptoFunlandGuy took the words out of my mouth. You grow attendance by catering to the families, as they bring the numbers and spend the money on passes, merch, food and so on. Meet that market as your base, and you've got the overhead to invest in bigger, more thrilling rides. -

@Canobie Coaster Taylor and Sarah seemed to like Leviathan more than DC Rivals, based on its superior pacing and theming. Thoughts?- 329 replies

You're putting a lot faith in Village, friend, but time will tell how well it was placed. I generally agree with the sentiment that this may well be a band-aid after the flak copped for recent ride outages, and a quick fix to help soak up crowds until the Scooby refurb and Oz opening. It is needed though, and I'm generally happy with the ride getting a new lease on life. They may spend the money on another refurb later (i.e. 2025), but if it's still in operable condition, wouldn't they want it open sooner rather than later? As for the retheme, it would make the most sense to tie-in with the DCEU Justice League, and with a Flash film hitting cinemas in a couple months, I'd say he's the safest choice. Red track with yellow supports would clash less than the current colours, and I'll give Village the latitude to at least smack on a fresh coat of paint with the relaunch. With groundwork now full steam ahead, an official announcement is surely imminent any day now?- 406 replies

Impressive work, but why the rush to get it down so quickly when it likely can't be installed until Superman's next maintenance period? That can't be a response to the ride outages. While I've made my feelings known about the location, I would hope that there are some plans for some light theming, at the very least through the queue line. September seems a likely fit for the relaunch, although there'd be no real urgency until the summer.- 406 replies

New Kids Ride at Movie World - April 2023
CR4ZE replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Now open to the public as stated on the park website and map. https://movieworld.com.au/attractions?attraction-type=family-ride -
What a cheeky comment.

To my knowledge, the pay-per-ride option was still not on offer. A day ticket was $75 at the booth, and considering the portfolio of attractions, that's quite pricey. Of course, you get a discounted rate buying online in advance. I'd say this is a good offer and, if it were me, I'd consider going for that. Three hours may sound short, but it's more than enough time to do all of the major attractions a couple of times each. My friends and I visited in January during the longer trade period (10:00 pm close). We arrived at the park in the early evening (around 5-6). It was quite busy all night, though perhaps not as busy as during the day. We had time to do multiple rides on Big Dipper and Sledgehammer, plus all the supporting attractions, kill half an hour in Coney Island, sit down to have dinner, play a couple of the midway games etc. We felt we got our days' worth in around four hours. I can't imagine the Easter holidays would be much busier than January, but the queue times based on my evening visit were maybe a 20-minute wait at most. Sledgehammer has a longer ride cycle and more complex operations, so it had the biggest wait. Big Dipper's queue actually tends to move a lot faster, especially as the ops are pretty efficient and were cycling people on and off quite quickly.

New Kids Ride at Movie World - April 2023

Looks great! How were ride ops today? -
Indeed. I love a good speculative take as much as the next person. My point is that people shouldn't act disappointed when they over-hype things for themselves. I don't fault the park for using social media to drum up some hype, even for an announcement as low-key as this. Any engagement on those platforms—positive, negative or otherwise—is good for them. Yes, that was for the in-app ordering at foot outlets, if I'm remembering right? Yet that was nothing like the campaign they did for the Oz announcement. The hype that generated was proportionate. The Aussie World post was significantly low-key by comparison. I know we often treat B&M as a pie-in-the-sky idea, but is there really some unattainable premium on those rides that Intamin and Mack don't have already?
-
One would think that perhaps an "Aussie World general" thread would be more suitable, and that this would be spun out separately were it notable? So as to temper expectations and whatnot.
-
I wouldn't call this disappointing. I think you can only blame yourselves for over-speculating about a fairly insignificant announcement. Did this need its own thread?

I've said the same thing; just one or two family-friendly flats would've really rounded out the precinct perfectly. "Never say never", I suppose, but I doubt we'd see any Oz additions this decade. Counting the Boomerang as two separate attractions is a bit of a stretch. The Database typically considers duelling/twin-tracks a single coaster. See Dragon Challenge (Islands of Adventure), Gemini (Cedar Point), Colossus (SFMM) etc., or even any of the other duelling family coasters. Even setting that aside, with near-identical layouts, same max height and top speeds, shared entrance/station and so on, the experience is more or less the same; it's merely the novelty of the "racing" aspect that is the unique identifier.- 406 replies

I agree and have expressed the same here before, but would add that not all dark rides are created equal and, in the case of the major Gold Coast parks, a fairly high standard for theming and immersion would need to be met. Something on the level of a Disney/Universal attraction would be infeasible given investment costs, but I certainly see the Scooby Doo ride at Abu Dhabi or Van Helsing at Movie Park Germany as a realistic standard. Beyond that, Dreamworld needs a water ride. Anything approaching the level of Phantasialand's log flume would be outstanding, but even a Mack PowerSplash would fill that niche. Movie World needs a thrill coaster heavy on positives and inversions. I'd go with either of a Vekoma Blitz/STC, RMC Single-Rail or Mack Big Dipper. They also need a replacement or supplement to Stunt Driver, and more "experiences" akin to the studio tour/SFX show. Besides the dark ride as suggested, I actually feel Sea World's current offering is pretty strong and covers most bases, especially now the Atlantis precinct is up and running. Would the Vikings site be large enough for a dark ride? If not, a couple more flats/supporting attractions would do me just fine.

I rode it last weekend (three times) and, while there was a definite rattle, it had nothing on the violent shaking Arkham got towards the end of its life. The crowds have been pretty heavy this season and the heat can't have helped either. It may be due up for maintenance but they could be holding off until after peak season.
