The New Atlantis - Construction Updates
rappa replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think it's pretty say that we'll get what we expected from the coaster at Dreamworld. Sure maybe a couple things are in a nolimits render that won't be exactly right in the finished product. But I'd say that my expectations of what DW put out there are of a nicely presented thrill coaster. And I expect them to deliver exactly that. Which I'll be happy with. Sea World however really has given this expectation: So I really hope I don't get this: -
Sky Voyager wins Master Builders Qld Award
rappa replied to Insight's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well that's it, its won an architectural award voted on my architects... Doesn't speak anything to it's suitability or aesthetic for a theme park, which is why Disney employs Art Directors and not Architects to design things. Similarly just ask a builder how they feel about architects and you'll see that the nice lines on paper don't equate to much in terms of if it's suitable to build, fit for purpose, etc etc. Doubt its winning and engineering or project management awards, but I guess as a stand alone building outside of it's theme park context its somewhat interesting. I still don't like those weirdly shaped glass stairwells but I'm also not a qualified architect so my opinion probably doesn't mean much. ...say architect again -
Has luna park sydney pulled the plug on 2 classic rides
rappa replied to Coasterlife's topic in Theme Park Discussion
But is it that? Or is it the owners are always looking for the cheapest possible option for adding rides? The red tape thing should be done and dusted now that the government has pretty much told the residents to F off. -
White Water World Slide Repaints 2019 - 2020
rappa replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It certainly is the better looking waterpark on the coast! It’s nice to see money has been spent on the upkeep of the vibrant colours which can so easily go to hell if left to fade. Hopefully the poor cousin down the road can be inspired by the younger hotter model. -
The billboard looks good. I realise they don’t really generate much revenue but they make a big impact on the highway. I always thought it was silly that VRTP got ride of theirs all those years ago.

There’s also a very real fact that Germany may not let the techs leave the country. They have a border closure in place.
-
Specialist manufacturing of emerging technology with no Australian worker available would definitely fall into the realm of commissioning a major ride. But it's still going to be hell expensive to get them here.

To be fair anything would have to be better than Carnivale at Sea World. That was the biggest massacre of what was a great event at Movie World ever. Hopefully this is the ground up tailor made event Sea World needs.

To be fair Irvine Ondrey Engineering has a post recently describing how they did almost a completely commissioning remotely for a recent project and only spent a day or so onsite as a result. So is possible. It’s really only verifying wiring and code anyway.

IF they stay open generating those jobs and flow on. My point is they’ve demonstrated they couldn’t keep the place profitable before this so is flushing 70million more of public money at them really going to change that. FWIW I think the place is of extreme value to the state and want to see it open and thriving. I just don’t see the present owners capable of that in any way.

Seems to be about accurate for the way they treat ardent. My vendetta is the owners of that Company which was a childhood treasure to all is a bloody joke of idiots who couldn’t organize a chook raffle let alone run a theme park. Why people are so protective of a group of people who are destroying their insane nostalgia I simply can’t fathom.

Parkz has a no Doxing rule so please stop trying to be cute or whatever with who knows what is the end game of people doing as such.

ummm BGH Capital is an Australian and New Zealand-focused private equity firm established in 2017 by Robin Bishop, Ben Gray and Simon Harle. Yeah see Village are going to use the money to continue their planned capital investment which brings construction and development jobs to Queensland, they also have the doors open which creates more jobs. Ardent plan to use the money to open the gate and cover the losses they have had from their past poor decisions. So none of that money benefits anything. Any jobs they make by being open is offset by all the people they have sacked.

How about a clause “are you currently subject to a court imposed judgement against you?” like is it not ridiculous the government is giving them money to pay a fine that’s meant to be punishment? also given their release states they couldn’t afford to open without the funding can we drop the crap that they weren’t opening for safety reasons now?
-
Well yes this is true. Sadly the ‘honor’ system that was the case before appeared to be followed as much in places as the Covid one does 😛

I’d say some trigger happy safety fun police has decided it needs a secondary safety and can’t just be on its shaft (which would have been engineered in the first place). This is the future of theming in Australia folks. The balance of logic in this country has gone towards extra safety to the point of even if it impacts on show. We’ll never have theme parks with the level of show immersion as overseas again as a result of this. You’ll never justify hiding an exit sign as it distrusts the theming or having an authentic prop like this again. That’s just the way it’s going to be. And the over engineering and safety analysis will add so much to the cost of doing anything less money will be available for theming. This is just the reality in Australia now, past incidents have forced the governments hand and we just have to live with that as sad as it is.

Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster lighting upgrade
rappa replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Definitely agree 😉 -
See this is a weird comment... John Menzies built countless amazing attractions, albeit with much less budget than would be needed to do today with all the bullshit hoops and standards that need to be dealt with. Then you had the joke that was Tim and Bob come in and just destroy everything, gut quality attractions and replace them with trash. Demote the parks from destination to regional category on purpose, and cut costs everywhere possible. Now you have Clark and Bikash, arguably the two most passionate people in management since John Menzies running the show, and building a team of people below them with the same values. They’ve got years worth of shit to undo from the mistakes of the previous management, I’m sure they would love to build quality attractions like Tunes, but there is much turnaround to do first.
