Sigh this is all very boring. Surely we all have better things to be doing with our time than these back and forths.

Yeah sadly the problem isn’t the lack of lasers, it’s the lack of smoke to see them... but in a post TRR worth that is what it is unfortunately.

For me the problem is not comparing numbers of attractions, it’s about amount of park. Note I’m not commenting on if either park is or was shit at opening, as illustrated above that argument is just not pleasant and worth digging up. But the very real problem Dreamworld has (and the reason I’m bringing it up is this is the first time we’ve got a real look at ‘the new look Dreamworld’) on its jands is the new footprint is going to be disappointing to any guest that knows the old full size park. This will naturally make them question why, and look to troubles the park is having/has had. How they overcome that without the funds to do major development quickly will be an interesting one to watch and for sure a challenge. So again I don’t want to pass comment on my thoughts of their opening lineup, and I’m not interested in hearing anyone else’s. But the issues I’ve just highlighted above are definitely not open for debate. Let’s hope they can find some creative and effective ways to eliminate them as soon as possible.

The dead ends at both suck. And Doomsday also being closed doesn’t help things either, same with ex intensity. But when Wild West reopens next week there will be big ole life back down that end of the park. WB Kids is alive on that side, and rivals covers the other. The big issue I think Dreamworld have on their hands is two or 3 of their dead spots won’t be active again for quite some time. And the fact people know it’s there makes it a bit depressing. Kind of like when Wonderland closed Little Wonders Land. Removing it from the map didn’t stop being being depressed it was sat closed.

Yeah the one in the first pic has just had the mortar chiseled out to get to the hold down bolts, it hasn’t ripped out of the ground or anything.

It’s about knowing the restraint is locked by the fact it is staying down. If the belt is attached it could be being held by the belt and not the lock. Nothing to do with minimum close.

I don’t know why it’s taken this long to be honest as it’s the way the ride is meant to be operated according to Mack. It’s so it’s easy to be sure the harness is locking properly and not just being held closed by the belt.

I dunno. I think Thunderbolt was much more an image for the Gold Coast than ToT ever was. Bounty’s Revenge actually was another icon, hell it was the logo even.

Yeah I’m with Joz on this definition. It’s not whats the park’s biggest ride, it’s what is actually an icon. And that’s always going to take a good few years to establish. It’s also why you give you ride a kick ass name like Thunderbolt or Wild West or Superman! Not some wishy washy crap like DC Rivals Hypercoaster... Lets hope Dreamworld keep that in mind when they get to their big coaster.

Past attractions would be Corkscrew and Sea World Ski Show. Thunderbolt was pretty iconic in its time. And finally Police Academy Today I say the most iconic attraction is probably Superman, even with Rivals still existing.

Least missed is definitely Pirates Unleashed. It was a biscuit of the highest order. And that Speedcoaster thing was the most liberal use of the word Speed OR Coaster I’ve ever seen.

I’m a bit anti all this doom and talk of years till recovery and tourism will never be the same again and all that stuff. The reality is we don’t know. If a vaccine came out Jan 2021 (I said IF so let’s not debate that) vast majority of people would get it, borders would open, restrictions would lift and DROVES of people who are cashed up and been stuck at home would flood the Gold Coast. There is a lot of pessimism from a generations of people who never lived through world adversity so feel like this is a one off event that we will never recover from. It’s just not that. There is also the notion that no one will travel for years and everyone is broke. Also not true. A great number of industries are busier than ever. Freight is doing record trade, people have money, and they can’t wait to spend it.

Problem is Disney parks usual have a good 5-10 years from first ideas to construction so they won’t pull something together real quick. Especially with their currently depressed resources. More than anything else I think the cost of labor in Australia will be the biggest hurdle for a Disney park. Their parks basically rely on an unbelievably high standard of service and presentation as their point of different. They achieve this with an insane number of staff in every department and roll. You can do that at $8 an hour. But you can’t at $25

Those Jet Streams were mental, terrifying and amazing all at once.

You only have to look to Star Tours to see how modern graphics, the amazing dolby 3D technology and kick ass motion basses can still be a thrilling ride system in 2020. As we've kind of been discussing above... it's all about the content.

It’s a funny one though. Replacing the animation with something else (what exactly?) will still just be a projection on a flat wall, hardly amazing. Likewise the first two projection elements didn’t replace anything, they were just plain walls previously (one was a mirror). The final scene for sure is sterile and bland I’ll 100% give you that. So whilst I’m certainly not going to argue the ride is great with the projection, because it’s not, I don’t know what an actual fix for it is that would suddenly make it much better.

Serious question because that’s a valid point... To ‘fix’ the current issue what would be the solution? Replace the projections with basic scenery? Change the media? Realistic answers only, 3 million dollars worth of animatronics is not a fix, that’s blue sky...

These parks have a draw of hundreds of millions of people in their market. And they STILL have to charge hundreds of Australian dollars for a single ticket. It’s not uncommon for a single attraction to cost 300 million Australian dollars. ——————————————————————— Let that sink it, that’s well well over a million dollars from EVERY SINGLE AUSTRALIAN that would be needed to pay for one attraction. ^just ignore that bit as I’m on crack clearly ——————————————————————— It’s so hilarious to keep seeing these sorts of things pop up. Meanwhile people complain when Gold Coast parks put up their price by $20 for a yearly pass 😂
