It's looking really nice. I really hope the watershed at the top of the flumes and the kids play areas we saw in the conceptual art are still coming, as these will really make it a top notch family attraction.

Parkz Top 10 Rollercoasters in the World
strop replied to Thrillrulz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
1. Xcelerator 2. Silver Bullet 3. Space Mountain 4. Ghostrider 5. Tower of Terror 2 6. Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster 7. Revenge Of The Mummy 8. Speed: The Ride 9. Bush Beast (RIP) 10. Superman Escape -
Why would they advertise headrest speakers? Sure it's going to add to the ride, but it isn't going to be the reason Mr. General Public packs up his family of 4 and travels to the Gold Coast this Christmas. The fact that there will be a new coaster is, and if it has onboard audio, it'll be a pleasant surprise, but it is hardly the biggest selling point of the ride.

I disagree. I would say that technically each gondola swings/pivots, or moves separately, if they were fixed they would be inverted at the top of the rotation. Having said that, I agree that on a ship of the size required to build the park, all but the most extreme of seas would even bother it, and seeing as how the park was only intended to be operated while docked, and not whilst travelling as it would if it was a cruise ship, I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to pack down some of the more vulnerable rides into a 'sailing mode' and then reset them up at the next port, considering they were discussing several months at each location.

The Parkz Update: Movie World, October 18 2011

Terrific update, but for some reason the last photo is missing for me... -
What would be the next best investment for Aussie World?
strop replied to POP's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Given the park's abundance of naturally sloping land off to the rear and left (behind the Wild Mouse and new Giant Slide), I feel that some good old fashioned body slides would be a great addition to the park. There's no need for any fancy bowl slides or aqua loops, just 3 or 4 slides of varying intensity to include all ages, and you've instantly added a good couple of hours to the average stay at the park (weather permitting), rounding it out into almost a full day park. -
Well I was at Fright Nights on Saturday, and while they were stopping people with loose items like glasses and hats, they said absolutely nothing when I sat down with my backpack and placed it under the seat. So I guess it might depend on the item, and as Rappa said earlier, might be more to appease the insurance company than to address any real safety concern. Same goes for the addition of all those attractive "Do not sit or swing on queue rails or chains" signs.
-
I was there on Saturday and there was a problem with the seats after the cycle before ours. We were set to sit in the front row, but the attendant only allowed one of us in the front as the seat on the front right was not working. Sounds like it has played up a few times. A guy behind me in the queue said he'd already seen it breakdown a few times, and then to hear you say you got stuck in that same seat the next day, sounds like it is a bit of a problem.

Is the smoke real, or just a video effect? It doesn't look real to me as it doesn't seem to change when the video transitions from the shot of the signage, to the POV in the station.

It's Movie World! That is abbreviated as MW! Why has everyone started using MV? That stands for Motor Vessel, but not Movie World!

Alcohol prices are more reasonable than most clubs I have been to, I was just having a bit of fun. Ironically, I think beer is cheaper than soft drink (the way it should be!). I look forward to having a few vampire prepared drinks in a fortnight's time.

There is a creek / stormwater drain in there, but it can be easily built over.

I had the same thoughts about the Dreamworks installation, but surely they would have that sorted already. It was touted as being a Summer Surprise, which would most likely mean a December opening. That's 3 months at best, and they haven't even hired anybody yet. If they allow a few weeks for the hiring process (I haven't looked up the ad to see what the deadlines are), then this project can't even start until November. Given the 6 months they have outlined for the position, this looks like it will be something opening in June/July. You can afford to have 3 beers at the Dirty Harry Bar? You must really be making the big bucks

Thanks for that. Hopefully wait times won't be that much worse in a couple weeks.

The Parkz Update: Movie World, September 30 2011

Those new LW seats appear to be far more 'reclined' than the current ones. I'm assuming that is how they get away without OTSR? -
Thanks for the info Bmull, what were wait times for ,both mazes, and rides like. I haven't been to a Fright Nights yet, and am curious as to how busy they are and whether you get to see everything they have on offer. I am booked in for the 15th, and am super keen, but am wondering whether you get to do a lot?

I saw the Joker float in the normal parade just 3 days before the holidays and the new parade started, so I think it is highly unlikely it would have been pulled apart and rethemed in that timeframe.
-
I went with Movieworld as I haven't been to Dreamworld in quite a few years (motocoaster wasn't open last time I went), but I am planning on paying DW a visit in the next month or so and am looking forward to seeing how it is faring these days. Movieworld gets the nod from me for the quality of Scooby, Superman & Wild West Falls, but I really hope they bring a decent family attraction back into the mix soon.
-
I really do think MW is lacking in the family ride area at the moment. I mean 20 years ago they had two 'all ages' dark rides in the Gremlin Adventure and Looney Tunes. Now they have neither. GoGoBoy is spot on in that Dreamworld is going to market the hell out of their Dreamworks tie-in, so a solid family attraction as well as the Green Lantern Coaster, may be needed to beat Dreamworld's current 1-2-3 (shockwave-buzzsaw-dreamworks) Summer lineup.

I know the old "a ride op said" source is unreliable at best, but I thought I'd post what I overheard last Wednesday whilst taking my Son on the merry-go-round in Kid's WB, just to fuel some speculation. A guest in front of us asked the operator what had happened to the River Ride. The operator's response was that it had closed, "but there is something new inside there, which will be opening soon." Anybody agree with the notion that construction has/or is currently occurred/ing inside the old river ride building, and that there is in fact a new attraction inside? Or was the Ride Op just being a little creative?

Just a quick update (sorry, no photos this time around) ... The Flume Ride's construction has gone vertical very quickly. I drove past on Tuesday to spot some large supports in place, and the again today to see one of the hills already erected. The crane was definitely still in action, late into the afternoon, and it looks like things will come together really quickly. Unfortunately, I wasn't really in a position to stop in for photos this time around, and I doubt I'll get to for a few weeks, but hopefully someone manages to get there over the school holidays, as it would be good to see this thing take shape.

This sounds like a great addition to the park, but it does sound like it spells the end of both the live Sesame Street Show, and any jetski or waterski style shows on the lake, at least while the high pressure jets, etc, are installed.
-
Ask and you shall receive... The smaller of the two bends is in place. Above you can see more flume pieces. More track. This shot also shows the flume ride's proximity to The Giant Redback. All three photos were taken from the Redback's loading platform. And just for good measure, a shot of the Redback.
-
Yes, I was there a couple of weeks ago and construction has started. All groundwork seems to be complete and several pieces of track were in place. Did take a couple of photos probably nothing worth uploading. May do so on my next days off though. It certainly looks on schedule for it's early December opening. Edit: Sorry www worker, somehow I completely missed your post at the time. I finally got there a couple of weeks ago. The giant slide looks good and was just receiving it's final touches, and the flume should receive some pretty decent theming and start to round out the park's offerings rather nicely. Mod Edit: Moved posts from the Redback thread to this thread originally started by POP. Obviously as these posts were posted before POP created this topic, they appear above his

What are the odds that we may be made to exit through that shop somehow?
