  1. It's a Whizzard, you can tell by the style of starter tubs used (The entrance to the slide is actually at waist height so you just tip yourself forwards rather than having to land on your belly like on the BRO/Super 8. I quite liked on Taumata Racer at Aquatica that they had a system that gave your time to the milisecond, so you could race, but there was also emphasis on being able to negotiate the enclosed section well and be quick in general.
  2. I'd say are just a bunch of the gross lilac coloured purple fence posts seen everywhere around the park that they've taken down: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Perth/Adventure_World/2,7,6123-Aqua_6_Super_Racer_Speed_Slide.html http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Perth/Adventure_World/3,1,6124-The_Shotgun.html http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Perth/Adventure_World/12,3,6189-Two_Thrills.html The building they have demolished was the toilet and change block near rampage, which wasn't on steel piers. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151586950879564&set=a.10151586950779564.1073741829.92438924563&type=3&theater
  3. Example of how footers are constructed: Concrete poured, with bolts sticking up out ready: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/search/green%20lantern/4,1,5219-Green_Lantern_construction.html Look middle left, you can see a square plate at the bottom of the support column with predrilled holes that will marry with the bolts sticking out of the ground: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/search/green%20lantern/4,2,5220-Green_Lantern_construction.html Footers aligned over and onto the bolts that were sticking up, http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/search/green%20lantern/4,4,5222-Green_Lantern_construction.html Nuts and washers are used to get the level of the footing to the correct height datum, such that there is a gap between the concrete and the underside of the plate at the bottom of the column: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/search/green%20lantern/11,3,5426-Green_Lantern_construction_continues.html Finally, the 'gap' gets grouted in: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/search/green%20lantern/17,5,5599-Green_Lantern_Coaster.html Another example of grouting in the gap at the base of the support: Before http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Gold_Coast/Warner_Bros_Movie_World/282-Superman_Escape/10,2,794-Superman_Escape_construction.html After http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Gold_Coast/Warner_Bros_Movie_World/282-Superman_Escape/18,3,6608-Arkham_Asylum.html
  4. For starters the support arent delivered to site attached or pre set into to concrete blocks....Go check out the parkz updates showing the process of building a coaster, such as the one at SW. A concrete footing is formed up and poured on site, and has bolts positioned into it by workmen. The support tubes are delivered to site and have a connector plate with holes in it. This is lowered by a crane to line up with the bolts which are poking up, then finally secured into place. Besides, cant you tell from the pic those small steel members sitting in a pile are way too small compared to your average coaster support? They also lack any plate at the other end to attach track onto.
  5. Arent they just fence posts or something, hence being thin square section steel, with dirty lumps of concrete at the bottom where they have been pulled out of the ground.
  6. Which shot has pics of supports in the car park? I cant see what you mean :S
  7. Experimenting? Watersides get made to order at the factory and go together in a numbered sequence....I don't think they'd have a box of waterslide segments and be playing around with colour combinations like lego.
  8. Plus they wouldn't be filling in the lake around the old pirate ship site for the fun of it.
  9. Its happened before it seems:
  10. Do the colours make any more sense on the racer now that it is finished, as in forming a pattern or something?
  11. ^There was somebody repetitive poster on the DW page also saying they should buy it. Just makes me laugh a bit...If fairly average parks like Adventure World can get their act together and spend $12 mil on a ride then it's not like we should "downgrade" our expectations for what other parks could do.
  12. I love the Dreamworld FB page, and I love coaster enthusiasts. On one side of the fence you have people hounding Dreamworld non stop to buil a big new coaster, on the other hand you have people saying that we should get a small, 3rd hand Vekoma boomerang as the next coaster because it happens to be on the market. Yay, because people apparently didn't accept Buzzsaw, yet a Boomerang will suddenly complete the park, make it attractive compared to VRTP and make people renew their passes
  13. Well can you link to a labor media release, news article or item of hansard speaking out against it?
  14. Doesn't matter that we never got the theme park and the government made other mistakes, Explain how it was the governments fault the wheel was delivered late? Were the people building and manufacturing it government employees? Why did you say they "spent $100 million on the Southern Star" anyway? Why would the government be paying for a private compainies ferris wheel? Research time! The theme park in Melbourne didn't go ahead because the consortium couldn't get the financial backing to do so, not because the government refused permission for it to be built. If the group had gotten appropriate financial backing, then it'd be there today. http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2002/04/06/1017206277784.html Also http://books.google.com.au/books?id=3z1i3VcYyGQC&pg=PA224&lpg=PA224&dq=docklands+theme+park+melbourne+consortium&source=bl&ots=TkywY2PzuN&sig=L69E7l6rWs5GKT7rV2Hlrr93xJE&hl=en&sa=X&ei=NTeWUeLfC-quiQe_oYDYDw&ved=0CFYQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=docklands%20theme%20park%20melbourne%20consortium&f=false
  15. Given a few major big wheels exist, I don't think the government could have foreseen structural issues. It's not their fault. It's the manufacturers/contractors fault. I'ts like blaming the Belgian government/local approving authority that Vertigo at Wallabi Belgium ( http://rcdb.com/3457.htm ) managed to run for a total of a month before closing down forever.
  16. The southern star was funded by ING, not the government just saying.
  17. Still don't follow..You can still spend heaps on a ride, but not bother with any theming, if you put all the money into just making the coaster bigger. See SkyRush at Hersheypark as an example, or Gatekeeper at Cedar Point, no theme at all, just a tidy looking station building, and heaps of concrete. I mean there's Eurofighters: And there's Eurofighters: Based on the way the rest of Adventure world is, I can't really see much different to how they present their other thrill rides, so I'm guessing no real theme to speak of, just a catchy sounding name.
  18. Lol at using Adventure World and 'theming' in the same sentence.
  19. I guess the site has been levelled with retaining walls, which suggests they might be plopping down a standard model as opposed to a custom layout abiding by the slope of the site, and the site is kind of squat and rectangular Kinda like how on Arkham Asylum the site has been perfectly leveled off under the footprint: http://goo.gl/maps/87lMF Probably was easier to do that then muck around with adjusting the levels of footings and redesigning columns to be shorter.
  20. In what other context would you use the word "unhelpful", other than complaining? "The lady who served me at Woolworths was unhelpful". "The kids are unhelpful, and never do their chores". "The tech advice on the Optus website was quite unhelpful" "I asked for directions at the tourist info centre, but they were unhelpful in the end"
  21. Are you sure you need to use a travel agent at all though? a trip to the GC is very simple to organise (Heck I sorted and booked one when I was 16) ...Shouldn't it be a case of: Bam, flights. Bam, lastminute.com/wotif.com hotel room. ....And a car if need be. And that's it...shouldn't take more than an hour of your time, and you'd probably spend that length of time driving to a travel agent, booking, then driving home. Just book a flexible airfare to account for potential maintenance, and don't stress too much about the accommodation ....It is outside of school holidays after all, and unless there is somewhere specific you wanted to stay there shouldn't be too many issues and you should be able to get a good deal.
  22. Post about it on the SW FB page, or email them perhaps?
  23. Not sure what trip report I like more. -Seriouslypunked visiting Canadas Wonderland and not riding Behemoth. -Reanimated visiting SFMM and not riding X2.
  24. ^But I think the thing is, being Disney is a bit deeper than having just buildings that look like Main St USA and a paddlesteamer...Its a total experience.
