  1. That shop was "Dance Heads". Re the theatre preshow, I do think it does the job of looking nice and classic and classy. The park has the 3D theatre, so they shoulp keep it ticking over, but at the same time people have 3D TVs at home now, so I don't think it's worth going too overboard with a themed preshow room etc. At least now all they have to do is switch out the backlit posters and that's about it. I think the steam in the attraction is gone for good.
  2. $15 mil is perhaps enough to build a small international terminal with customs facilites. You still haven't said where the consistent every day demand is, other than an airshow for a few days every 2 years (potentially annually) How much of the attendance would come from direct international flights? Foam.
  3. Plus I think this whole thing about Avalon wanting to become this big international hub is just major foaming on the part of the airport owners...Who the hell wants to fly in there? Geelong residents, and super budget travellers heading to Melbourne who would put up with extra travel time on their trips. Qantas might be tied to the place, but unless consumers are actually buying seats on the flights there the airport wont grow!
  4. Why are you sitting wondering? If you'd just check out the videos/websites for each new WnW, you would see how all of them are different in some way. Obviously being water parks there are some basic attractions you'll stil see at all of them (Eg all have a lazy river, all have a racing slide etc etc) Some of them share ride names and logos too (Eg Wet n Wild Phoenix has a Mammoth Falls, but theirs is a Family Boomerango
  5. Not Tulla. Which is the big problem with the proposal IMO. One station branch lines are always difficult to serve in terms of stopping patterns (See here) If they slewed the whole Geelong line allignment towards the airport, and made it a through station that would be a practical operating model, but a one station branch dangling of the mainline is a crappy way of running things. On the contrary, thats why I don't see it getting up. Because a bus would be so much simpler and quicker. Google Maps says it's 11 mins from Lara...Could easily work that with a fleet of 3 or so buses.
  6. Neither rail link has been confirmed at all. All the Govt is doing is a feasiblity/routing study into both of them Difficult to see the Avalon one getting up...I don't really see why the hourly capacity of rail is warranted when a bus with a suitable interior layout (See Skybus) Also don't get why Avalon needs to go international. Why does Vic need two international airports so close together? It's not London!
  7. The sound is definitely all there when you ride, but to date POVs haven't had good audio. Batmans narration has been there too, and is working fine now, In the early days however it was way off (As in playing in completely the wrong scenes)
  8. Do you have the time in the video it happens? Just so we don't have to watch a whole/search Skippy episode lol. Edit: 13:26 to see skippy suffer animal by going down the slides in Coney Island. 13:33 For the topsy turvy house.
  9. I think it was ok to remove it. The park has two flumes anyway.
  10. ^I think at the very least it would be more tolerable than their SLC knock off coasters.
  11. Liseberg (Lisa Burger) in Sweden is getting Projekt Helix in 2014, a Mack Launcher like blue fire, with lap bars, 6 inversions, airtime hills, and two launches, and almost 1.4km long: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3QG3gMikVc http://www.liseberg....-Projekt-Helix/
  12. Not that much I'd think because its only got the one twist, and the rest is in a straight line.
  13. Also, sally have released a good POV of their own, with proper audio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6brIAEoC0Ig Doubt it, this one can move around a bit more, particularly the arms, The best the batman one could do was tilt his head a bit right?
  14. Ooh ooh I can answer that!!!! http://goo.gl/maps/FntUo
  15. The issue with MWs ride categories is that they only have two for the rides: -Thrills -Kids Fun And then 'Family Entertainment', but this is just the shows....This forces anything not in the looney tunes are basically into the thrills category. Meanwhile, Alton Towers has 3 categories for rides, which all make total sense: http://www.altontowers.com/rides-and-attractions/ -Thrill Rides -Laughs & Frights -Young Fun Plus "Attractions" for things like shows, Ice Age 4D (They have it too), the SeaLife Aquarium etc. Laughs and frights is the important one. If we had that category at MW, Scooby, WWF and JL3D would sit firmly within it.
  16. I think the dissapointment may stem from knowing he might not get a chance for the full experience till a trip in the future (Maybe a year or so away?). Though I do think complaining that the ride is the "slowest" is a bit dumb, because it cant really be much faster or it would be too hard to hit the targets and you'd fly by the 3d screens in a matter of seconds.
  17. Exactly! I'd trust them being able to get a shoulder harness right (at least you can fit a backup seatbelt as seen on most OTSRs) more than a fake Chinese knock off of the Maurer Sohne X-Car lap harness!
  18. <Bangs head against wall> Hydrocoaster is just what the park decided to call the ride. The manufacturer product name is "Hydromagnetic Rocket" But the intensity is different to a regular water slide, you couldn't have a 5 year old ride it! Bugger off, it has several downhill sections, and waterslidey parts: http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Gold_Coast/WhiteWater_World/209-Super_Tubes_Hydrocoaster/3,2,1266-Super_Tubes_HydroCoaster.html Ok....So Roller coaster traditionally use gravity to make it through the circuit. This roller coaster starts off with a couple of downhill turns, before using an uphill set of magnetic boosters in the tunnel to get the train into the next section of twisty track. If Supertubes at WWW is not a water slide "because it uses magnets to counteract the forces of the slide" then I guess you think this must not be a roller coaster, because it's using magnets to counteract the normal forces of the coaster!......... http://rcdb.com/9463.htm?p=39629 Have you ever ridden any of the newer slides at WhitewaterWorld, or Wet n Wild? Even a couple of them?
  19. ^I can't let that go either. Pupil free days are for teacher professional development....They aren't like the RDOs in the construction industry. Many professions require you to get a certain number of CPD points per year to maintain registration, so it also happens over part of the summer break too.
  20. I think BMulls post is pretty much spot on.....Tell me more about why Aqualoop is "the same" as Hydrocoaster. Woah hang on a sec, so first you say you don't bother riding water slides, then you try and tell people who have experience riding a wide variety of slide types that they are "all the same". For starters, not all slides are downhill...You might be propelled uphill by magnets like Hydrocoaster, or by powerful jets of water like Master Blaster slides, or just under your own momentum like Aqualoop. Some have you going uphill and falling back down in their own way, like Tornado/Kamikaze, or the "Boomerango" slides .And even if they are downhill, it might be a moderate run like the Temple of Huey, or something steep and fast like the Jetstreams at WnW.Clearly they have to be different in intensity and experience, or else why are some people afraid of one but not the other? Some slides have you bulleting along, some have you sloshing from side to side on the turns. And of course, newer slides have elements that break up the normal chute from top to bottom...Toilet bowls, funnels, halfpipes, walls, "Megatube" sections. Not all slides use a tube, some you ride on your back, like a classic flume slide like the River Rapids, so you have a bit of control, by arching your back and bending your body on the turns to go very fast. Some have you riding on a head first mat (racers...And ive been on the Mach 3 slides at WnW Orlando which use them too), some on a conventional inline 1/2/3 person tube, facing forwards, some on a circular raft that can spin around (so think of it like the difference between a normal coaster versus a spinning coaster)They all feel different. In some parks, you do see a couple of slides that might be similar..The black hole and sidewinder slides at WnW are basic forward facing tubes (Though black hole is pitch black inside, so hey, it still manages to be different), though this tends to just be a case of having enough slides to meet demand. But at WnW and WWW (And Jamberoos/WnWSyd plans do it well too), but I'd struggle to name more than a couple of rides at any of these parks that are too similar. Water parks need to build new rides to keep people coming back, and 90% of times the choice is a water slide. There is also the capacity argument, Wet n Wild is very popular, so needs as many people eating slides as it can get. Finally, this slide offers something new...Those helix elements are really cool. I can see what you are doing, refering to "plastic walls" makes it sound really cheap and nasty", "sit in a tube till the splashdown" just makes it sound like nothing at all happens along the way and its completely emotionless like sitting at a bus stop.
  21. They aren't all the same because many have different elements that feel different to ride. It's like saying the feel of Superman escape is the same as Green Lantern. I don't really like it when people use oversimplification to make something sound bad when it's not. I can do that too... Mt Everest: Just a big hunk of rock.
  22. Umm, because the 30-60 seconds is really exhilarating and full of feelings like weightlessness and speed depending on the type of slide, and because walking up stairs is really not too difficult. And I mean, for Aqualoop yesterday the waits were 5 mins or so, because the capacity is so high and the staff were working well together. Absolutley worth it considering how good that slide is. Hey, whats the point of spending all that time just sitting there on Arkham Asylum slowly going up the lift hill, when all you do is just roll downhill and through a few loops for a minute or so, only to go out the exit ramp and ride it all again.
  23. I don't think it sets the world alight like my favourites, Tornado and Aqualoop, but i'd still make an effort to ride it each visit because it's good fun.
  24. ^Yeah, I keep expecting the door to open on that turn, because you cant shoot the person/spore behind it. I guess chalk that up as something else not running. Animatronics in the city scenes were fine.
  25. I've yet to confirm it by taking a ride and comparing, but there is a definite mindset to the target scoring in these sorts of rides....Smaller targets, and ones in awkward locations tend to have a lot of points, so I try my best to clean those ones up before everyone else.
