  1. Proof! http://www.parkz.com.au/search/photos/aqualoop/page7.html (Bottom of that page onwards)
  2. ^ You mean a coaster intertwined with themed buildings? I think the closest one might be G'sengte Sau at Tripsdrill, but it's more of a family coaster than a full sized looper. A couple of other rides in a similar vein (Coincidentally, also in Germany) are Black Mamba and Fluch Von Novgorod.
  3. RCT I think is far to constrained since you are stuck to a grid. No limits is as close as you'll get to real world representations of real coasters...You have a very fine degree of control of the track geometry, as well as how the ride actually runs (Eg acceleration rates of launches, deceleration and holding times on brake runs) Plus you can import 3D objects. See: http://www.nolimitscoaster.com/ This ride in particular is a good benchmark of how much you can do with the program: Then again, I'm a bit anti CAD (And that even extends to my Uni work) so I tend to just hand draw stuff
  4. Here is another piece about the place that appeared in last Sundays (22/10/10) Courier Mail:
  5. I've edited in those Dreamworld ones...
  6. New Skull paint job. http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?p...;id=30639128612
  7. Yes, notice how the main tower only has 2 out of 4 spaces used.... http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/ride/AU/Gold...nstruction.html So 4 loops + 1 mini slide = 5 slides all up.
  8. A very small update I spotted on the weekend going past the park...The mini hyper drop slide has been put in....Looks like a very tight curve at the bottom! http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/AU/Gold_Coas...Hyper_Drop.html
  9. I've always wondered why this type of ride is called a "Ranger" anyway....I thought a ranger was a keeper of a national park/state forest?
  10. I'm guessing all the enthusiasts have the MyFun passes
  11. Oooh, that reminds me of something I discovered the other day (Was browsing the site of a practice a mate works for) Some 3rd party has considered a Hollywood Themed hotel on the same road MW is on, pretty much immediately south of WnWs boundary http://www.leitharchitects.com.au/01_cms/details.asp?ID=384 Upon further searching, it had been in the paper 2 years ago. http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2008/0...-top-story.html Man, can't believe WnW used to have a BP and a HJs next door, why get rid of them?
  12. The way I'm reading this is that there would be a village square (So a mini Downtown Disney/Universal Citywalk I guess), with themed restaurants (Not necessarily motor themed), With the go karts etc adjoining this.
  13. Mini golf yes....Permanent traveling rides...NO! This is WVTP we're taking about, not Luna Park. This is my wishful thinking, but at the moment the Gold Coast Light Rail system is starting construction and will eventually make it as far as Helensvale. I'd look at a future extension that comes from there, crosses the MW, then follows Entertainment road with stops at Studio Village West, Wet n Wild, Movie World, and then continuing north through Oxenford and Upper Coomera, using the current power line corridor as an alignment (And further in the future, swinging east to terminate at Coomera Town Center/Station)
  14. ^You could always just taxi it as far as Helensvale ($14 or so) and then get a bus to Surfers from there...
  15. I think this would be the area in question: http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&sou...mp;t=h&z=19 In all honesty, what is the problem? It's on the other side of the car park and not even included as part of MW....How is it any different to the way Outback Spectacular and WnW are currently next to MW? Thats one key thing people should get out their heads right now....It's not 'part' of Movie World, so it shouldn't be considered as such...It's just an attraction unto itself that is taking up some spare land. Well, my preferred solution....More people using public transport to get to the park through more frequent services No need to spend money on car park extensions and upkeep then. And something partially related. Terra Mitica in Spain did something similar....They just took a bay of the car park and plopped in some Go Karts: http://maps.google.com.au/maps?oe=utf-8&am...=18&iwloc=A
  16. That right there was perhaps the most awkwardly named attraction in the parks' history....The 'CalciYum Kids Can Do Big Things Go Zone'
  17. I think the cheapest 'carry around foods' in the park are the churros and the frozen choc bananas, both at $3 a pop.
  18. This doesn't warrant a topic or anything I guess, but a corner of the Ice Cream Parlour at MW has been fitted out with stuff to sell "Tater Twisters".
  19. http://about.dreamworld.com.au/Media-Centr...-OF-TERROR.aspx Sounds exactly the same to me....Kingda Ka will still be the tallest coaster and Formula Rossa will be the fastest.
  20. I think one key difference is that these up charges aren't happening in lieu of new attractions, and that is key. Im not particularly interested in Bungee Trampolines at WnW for instance*, but it's not going to be a main factor in a decision to visit anyway because there are 4 shiny new aqualoops to keep me satisfied. The actual mistake DW made is that they built a bunch of up charges, and then tried to rely on them soley to boost attendance, with a complete absence of headliners. What I'm seeing at WnW is that the Aqualoops would work to improve attendances overall, and then the bungee trampolines then take advantage of that... The issue then is the target audience (V8 fans) would be pissed at the lack of Bathurst. *The flying fox could be worth a try if the price is right. Edit: Haha, Aero Bounce Bungee Trampolines just broke anti discrimination laws:
  21. Since the surface is just a soft material I'd imagine you'd need to peel it back to perform maintenance on the equipment underneath.
  22. I'm going to come in and defend the roof here, because it really does smooth out the effects of weather, it makes the park much more pleasant in summer and in the rain. It's a sufficiently neutral and elegant form that I don't think it actually competes with the buildings in main street...In fact I'd say its height emphasises the verticality of the space, making the buildings stand out more (since your gaze will naturally sweep up towards the roof, taking in the upper levels of the buildings on the way) There's also little things, like the way it reflects the glow from the Roxy theatre lights, and the way both music and ambient sound get amplified (so the park sounds like its bustling) It's also enabled the park to expand its entertainment offerings (Case point being the DC comics night parade) since it acts as a big arse undercover venue, so they can light it and do water sensitive stuff without worry. I'm speculating that it would've increased revenue too (through functions, and through better attendance on days with less than perfect weather) Plus, all the cool kids have roofs (Universal Osaka, Singapore. Tokyo Disney....)
  23. Is it possible that it could be a cone/vortex shaped laser? It could be aligned with the tunnels centreline, and as the train launches the angle the cone sweeps out by narrows the further the train moves away from the laser source, so the 'ring' that is produced when the laser fially hits the tunnels walls moves to keep up with the car. It'd be fairly easy to calculate...just have a function that describes the cars position at a given time during the launch, and sit this inside a tangent function which describes the sweep of the laser. If you take the average acceleration of the car to be 6.3ms^-2 and the tunnel to be 4m wide you end up with something like θ = cot (0.7875*T^2) Where θ is how much the laser needs to sweep in from the centerline and T is the seconds after launch Edit: Why am I being silly...it wouldn't need to be in the middle of the tunnel at all to work.
  24. I wonder why they chose YoGo as the big name brand to have on the Ferris Wheel?
