Breaking news: Village to buy Aussie World
Ok, we can all get officially excited now: http://www.thedaily.com.au/news/2008/aug/2...our-wet-n-wild/ Ok, so looking at the plans, we can expect the following: -Wave Pool -Lazy River -Kids Area -Tornado, with a more extensive start and finish than the Green Room (And I dunno if i am reading into this too much, but it seems like the type where the funnel is fully enclosed) -Whitewater West Boomerango -3 Body Slides -At least 3 Toilet Bowl slides, including one Behemoth Bowl -Octopus Racer -Extreme Slides, including at least one turbo tunnel ( ) -Mammoth type slide -Spas To me though, this sounds like the perfect water park for an Australian setting, I love the way they describe it as using the native bushland in the area, and the way the slides will run down the hillside instead of large steel support structures. The fact they seem to be going for a cohesive them is a big plus too. Interestingly, it seems like that some of the older rides are being retained, and in fact Aussie World will remain open during construction....does this mean it will be a wet/dry park? In any case, this seems like it could be a better park at opening then what WWW eventually hopes to reach with its expansions.

Scooby Doo Lately
I think they also have some physical hardware that works out throughput at Disney, at the exit of each ride you walk between bars that have light curtains across them (the space between each bar is only wide enough for one person) so the number of people exiting can be counted accurately (I guess they then use this to work out how well they are doing for hourly throughput) They must have some means of counting people going in too, I remember at DCA being in the first rush of people heading to TOT at opening time, and as the crowd began to pour into the entrance you could see the wait time sign starting off at 0mins and rapidly flipping up through the numbers as more and more people went in.

Ever Stuck On The Claw?
I've seen it happen to the group ahead of me while I was in the queue, all it means is that the ride hasn't come to a stop in quite the right place, so the computer wont allow the floor to come up, and hence the harnesses to be subsequently unlocked. I'm sure Lotl90 could give a better explanation though on what they do about it.

Scooby Doo Lately
Just a little side note, but the Australian company tax rate is 30% The live queue time system sounds like a good move, but it would only be effective if it were in key locations around the park (eg at the T junction at the end of main street, one in WB Kids, one up in the Wild West area) since nobody is going to walk right back to the front gate to check out the times when it would be quicker to just walk to the ride itself. A better suggestion I have heard is that each major ride should have queue times for the other rides too...if you went to Scooby and saw the wait time was 40 mins, but the other rides were listed too you could right away make a comparison and opt to go on something else. I don't think I have seen the board with all rides though that surfaced a few months back, only the individual signs at each entrance. I remember seeing a Mythbusters story on start up power loads of lights versus the amount used leaving them on...for the vast majority of lights (incandescent, LED, halogen etc) it only uses about 2 secs of electricity in the instant when they are turning on. The main exception is Fluorescent Tubes, which use about 20 seconds worth of power in the instant that they turn on....So if you are out of a room for longer than 20secs, then it becomes worthwhile to turn off a fluorescent light, and for the others, even less. Now, I don't know much about the characteristics of lasers, but for diode based lasers at least, I would imagine the case would be the same as above. personally, I think WVTP could do a lot better with power saving, I think its a joke that they have full lights on at WnW on the towers at night when they are closed, and the big screen at MW is still on hours after park closing time. PS, dunno if you still want feedback on posting, but it is spelled "sure", and "assure"...."shore" and "a shore" means the edge of a lake or sea.

The Official Jet Rescue construction thread
Just wondering Matt, was there anything stopping you from going closer to the fenced off bit...did you peer over to see what's inside? Also, not meaning to play the mod or anything, but apart from the first few posts on page 1 about the Mack water coaster plans, couldn't this sort of be split off since the current thread title is misleading since its a Jet Ski Coaster?

Scooby Doo Lately
Forgot to post this, but yesterday the hazers on the catwalk were off, and there was no red laser at all on the final drop, nor any smoke there. It seems to be random really with what is working, and this could go on for pages without really being indicative of the current state of the ride.

LW Issues
My mistake. I had just interpreted what Cadboy had quoted...I had thought they were suggesting they were the only SLC to have a Bayern Curve. Camera was on the highest setting (2048X1436) but unfortunately it is quite dark in where the friction wheels are...I deliberately brightened the dark part of the tone curve just to bring out what is in the darkness a bit. Look in the white oval outline, and you can just see the shape, and shine coming off one of the friction wheels. They are indeed there, but that is the best I could show it.

Main Street In for a Change...
Yeah, I think I was there from about 10:00 till 1:30...pretty dead actually with no real waits (ie longer than a couple of minutes) to speak of.

Main Street In for a Change...
Right now I'm trying to see if I can spot myself in those photos.

Restraints comparison
Dunno, its hard to do a direct comparison, especially since for me they close quite well since I'm not tall or fat or anything. Batwings might be a bit easier for some to fit into because they don't go down as far, but still, the belt has to reach. As for Motocoaster, there is a test seat at the front of the ride you can use to check, but I think it might be more forgiving. The Claw also has a test seat, so check that before going on the Claw or GD since they have the same harness.

The Perfect Coaster for LPS?
Those people would be saying "In hindsight" The basis of the word is of course "hind", which means rear, hence hindsight means the understanding of something after it has happened. PS, AlexB was picking on me via PM for not thinking of a pun sooner...here's my lame one:

LW Issues
Well, I guess to give this topic some closure.... Apologies for the poor low light performance of my camera. Annoyingly, a bunch of wheel assemblies were parked in the maintenance bay right where the friction wheels are, but you could still just see the friction wheels. Edit: To answer the question in Cadboy's post below, a horizontal loop is just a helix....That upward spiral at the end of the ride. So that info in the pdf is actually false because there are a few SLCs with a horizontal loop/bayen curve/bonus helix or whatever you want to call it....LW is not the only one.

Seaworld Eye Closes in May
After seeing it briefly on TV in a news update (They seemed to think it was still at SW) and subsequently finding this article it seems as if the transit center roof is indeed a likely new home for the wheel. What are my thoughts...Sort of indifferent really, I'm a bit over them now really given they seem to have become the latest copycat trend in the tourist industry.

The Official Jet Rescue construction thread
Yeah, I was going to ask that...light, dark, aqua? To be honest, ever since I heard about this ride I haven't been able to shake the mental image of a colour scheme similar to Surfrider. Second question I was going to ask..Is the track that two rail style of track seen on motocoaster, or is there some of that three tube triangular, or four tube square style track?

LW Issues
It seems like those comments were aimed at me Klassen24, At the end of the day, if you are right you are right, and if you are wrong you are wrong. When I explained the real reason for what they are for I wasn't being unreasonable, I backed up what I was saying with a number of examples. Because I wrote this, you said I was being rude (I'm still wanting to know why that is considered rude) Its not as if I said something harsh like "What are you on about dimwit, theres no motors in there you noob". Remember, If I hadn't explained about zero cars, then someone else would have, and if I hadn't pointed out that there are friction wheels, then somebody else would have...This topic was started because somebody wanted the correct answer to a question...Yeah obviously everyone should get a fair go (Which isn't hard because you can post whenever you want) but If somebody is clearly wrong then naturally somebody will step in and correct them. Notice how nobody said I was wrong about zero cars, and nobody said you were wrong about the safety perimeter around rides...Because in both cases examples were given, and there weren't any fundamental flaws in what was said. Thing is though, I (and others) did give consideration to what you said, thought about it, and gave reasons instead of just flat out saying you were wrong for no reason. -There are in fact friction wheels -A motor in the car would need an electrical contact rail, of which there is none -No other SLCs use onboard motors -On-board motors would add weight too the train, and would cause frictional losses. -Not enough space for a motor powerful enough to move a train that weighs several tonnes. Isn't that being a bit presumptuous? Thing is, this site has many members, and a lot of them work in the industry, or have in the past, and some have just been into theme parks for so long that they have built up a good knowledge of them...If certain people are frequently right, its probably because they are...why is that something to be ashamed of? Should people 'dumb down' to avoid accidentally proving someone else wrong. Besides: Isn't that talking yourself up a bit? If being "having to be right" is such a bad thing, then why go to the effort of making a new account to just to pretend to be 'right'? Also, I felt like posting this: Above is the original model SLC, and below the the extended version with a helix (often colloquially referred to as a 'bonus helix') . Movie World was indeed the first park to get the SLC with a bonus helix (that is what techincally makes it 'custom' even if 95% is the same as every other SLC), but notice, between the two versions everything else is the same, such as where the station, maintenance bay and brakes are and right down to the design and placement of the supports. This is why people wouldn't believe about on-board motors...because they would have just done a 'copy and paste' with the way the maintenance bay is set up.... even if it did have problems in 1997 moving trains (did it really?), then clearly they would fix it by checking the installation of friction wheels with the specifications of previous SLCs, instead of some untested solution of trying to whack motors in a train. Finally, Its great that you are so willing to contribute, and right off the bat you have begun contributing photos etc, Just remember, be honest, make sure what you are posting makes sense and uses correct spelling/grammar, and if you are unsure about something, make sure you state that it is your opinion, and not fact. Its ok to be wrong sometimes, its happened to everyone (myself included) you just need to move on and learn from it. I'ts unfortunate things had to start off on the wrong foot.

I was going down to the GC on Wednesday, but am going to be at MW all day, and in any case I'm going on the train, not with the car so getting to SW is a pain (Hurry up and build that light rail dammit) My sister is home for a month from living in the US (Hence us going to MW) so I haven't really done any anti social park crawls Ill get back into it in a couple of weeks time.

The Perfect Coaster for LPS?
Yeah, at the end of the day they are both 30 second quick thrill rides, its reportedly pretty fun even if its not that much of a coaster. WTF

LW Issues
Haha Richos being a twat Of course, I'm going to the park on Wednesday, and Its not going to be hard to get photos of both the friction wheels that two days ago didnt exist But now do: And it wont be hard to get a photo of the back end of the train (the "square" shape enclosed by the track ties means you can see in between the wheels, as was seen in the Blue Tornado photo) But of course, this will be a wasted effort, because when I show the motors are non existent: "Oh, But Gazza, they were there in 2001" Guess I'll never be right, hey guys

It would make sence for Richo to check before people go saying this is the same guy,

The thing I find more interesting that klassen24 didn't give the primary function of the zero car ('support' for the last row of seats) when giving his reason, instead going off on this tangent about it being a motor car....and despite AlexB mentioning he didn't actually acknowledge it as the reason for it until I explained it (He could have, for example said "Yeah, AlexB was right, it is for stability blahblahblah....." in the first place)

The Parkz database says 5 Mil.

The Perfect Coaster for LPS?
Yes, because they decided to move next to a fun park that has been there for over 70 years.

The Perfect Coaster for LPS?
In current AUD values: Zac Spin $5 Mil Intamin Vertical Lift Coaster $14 Mil Eurofighter $8.5 Mil for this http://www.rcdb.com/ig2229.htm X Car $4.6 Mil For This http://www.rcdb.com/m/id3312.htm (not really the best comparison) I'm not quite sure if I'm looking in the right place, but the only space I can see next to tumble bug is between it and Coney island...unfortunately its only about 10m wide (narrows down to 5m) and about ....I think even a big apple coaster would struggle to fit in there. The ride system itself doesn't really matter much, as long as it is the sort that uses short vehicles, to allow it to make tighter turns. Its really up to the designers to snake it in where it can fit. I mean who would have thought Hollywood Dream would have been built where it currently stands.

The Perfect Coaster for LPS?
Yeah, its in interesting little ride, probably not 'major' enough for the GC parks, but the Luna Parks could take notice of it...reportedly its not a bad ride, and they seem to have finally mastered this style of ride with unconventional elements. That said, I think there are a number of rides out there that could fill the void....there are many parks out there with space limitations, and manufacturers have recognised this. Things such as the Gerstlauer Eurofighter, http://www.rcdb.com/ig3573.htm?picture=5 Intamin Vertical Lift, http://www.rcdb.com/ig4049.htm?picture=10 Intamin Zac Spin, http://www.rcdb.com/ig3613.htm?picture=1 and the Maurer Sohne Launched X Car http://www.rcdb.com/ig3602.htm?picture=23 all seem like viable choices. The biggest barrier of course is the current ownership, and the residential towers around the park.
