  1. I thought this would be interesting, since I'm guessing a few of us do it, but what things do people have in their collections of theme parky stuff? For me, it really just tends to be paper stuff as I'm not a big buyer of T shirts or trinkets. But anyway, I have: All this..... Some Australian park maps, including the SW ones for the last 3 years. A few newspaper articles. Some stuff from the LA parks, plus my onride photos and calendar(I couldn't be bothered digging up my Bermuda Triangle one from about 10 years ago....It looked like the logo was done with word art. Spot the differences (2006 at the back, 2007 at the front) Some Australian park brochures from over the years. Some Orlando park maps. What else does everyone have? Pictures are best.
  2. Last time I was at Disneyland, on Indiana Jones I noticed that the lights weren't flickering in the station as we pulled back in, I knew from what I had read about the ride that this means the ride has broken down, what was frustrating was that this happened when we were one stop behind the unload position, so we were stuck for 10-20 minutes or so waiting to get off. I did however use the opportunity to snap this photo.
  3. OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, check out http://www.dreamworld.com.au/content/drw_2..._Rides_Flypants
  4. Water vapour becoming less and less visible?
  5. And so it begins: http://themeparkphotography.com/TPP_Js180608.html And Skeetafly, why would it be that the Aqua Play structure at SW resort has only just been approved now (It appeared in the last couple of days) even though it has been in place for months?
  6. Yeah, I finally got to ride it again yesterday, and it is a bit dissapointing. Makes me wonder why they bother wasting power on the lasers in the warehouse if the on place you can see them is where they hit the wall. Personally, I would use the steam system seen on SE in the final room....just shoot some out before the vehicle enters that last little 'room' so by the time you come around the corner and stop the drop is well hidden by the laser. Of course, it would probably be hard to justify the expense of a new steam system at this point in the rides life.
  7. Yeah, Batwing was running in the rain yesterday. Superman is the only thing to close.
  8. Yeah, I pointed that out on the last page. The thing I'm wondering about is why there is stuff on the planning site about what SW and WnW are doing, but there is nothing on Hollywood Stuntdriver or the Main St Roof.
  9. ^Proves how long it has been since I last rode it (Cartoon Network Beach was being built at the time) Truth be told, but the only time I ever rode it was when my sister and I were at the park, and we rode it from the main stop to the water park, and that was it, the driver laughed as us because it was a cold, wet and windy day and we thought it would be a good idea to get off there and go on the slides whilst the water park was empty. Is it even a popular ride anymore? Perhaps it might be more useful to everyone if it was more like the DW one. If they are just going to have it as a scenic tour, its sort of missing the mark because there are better views from the monorail.
  10. BEST WAY If the photo is good quality (Same standard as the rest of the photos in the gallery), and you want it to grace the front page of this site then.... -Go to: http://www.parkz.com.au/content.php?add=photo -Click the Browse button, and find the photo on your hard drive, and click the 'open' button. -Just below this, pick "Construction" as the category -Then pick Warner Bros. Movie World and click "tag photo with this park" , and Hollywood Stundriver and click "Tag photo with this ride/attraction. -Give the photo a title, and if you want, a caption (Recommended) -Click submit photo. ALTERNATIVE If your photo is low quality (Eg blurry pic from a camera phone) and you only want it to appear in this thread then.... -Click 'add reply' (not fast reply) -In the attachment editor (it is below the text box where you type the post) click browse, and navigate to where the photo is saved, and click the 'open' button. -The click the green upload button, and wait. -Then from the drop down menu above the green upload button, click the icon that is a piece of paper with a plus sign, and that will put it into the post. -Repeat above steps for multiple photos Everything should be fine though, I haven't had any bugs with it, as long as you follow the steps logically it will be fine.
  11. I'm bumping on purpose, but the ride is now in with council: http://pdonline.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/Maste...r&key=94320 No documentation is viewable, unless you feel like forking out $36.50 to freedom of information.
  12. Yeah, the train is in the construction area, from It runs along the eastern edge of the park,to it's storage shed underneath corkscrew, to where it then turns the corner and runs west, over the big stone bridge (And from there, goes past the flume station, does a curve and runs south past Sesame St beach, calling at a stop opposite the tavern, then it does a big u turn around the seal stadium, and from there runs around the western perimeter of the park, calling at the water park, before basically shadowing the monorail track along the northern and eastern perimeters of the park) It's definitely one of the underutilised rides by guests, personally I think if they have the space, it should make a stop at the new coaster. Edit: Ok, so that's what I get for getting something to drink in the middle of a post. In order to give this post some meaning, here is the train route:
  13. ^I'm not quite following. Thats a bit like saying having Disneyland, and Walt Disney World is confusing (Or any other country for that matter which has theme parks in more than one place) Plus, not matter where tourists go, WVTP is still getting their money (Unless they only go to Dreamworld) Personally, I'm predicting it will be mostly bored locals who have for years been neglected theme park wise will be the main patrons. The international and interstate visitors I think won't really be doing trips to Melbourne for the sake of this place, but rather just sticking around a day longer to 'check it out' or for 'something to do'. I'd hope not...thought I remembered reading at some point that they wanted to work with the existing owners and staff anyway. It'd be ridiculous of them to sack the staff anyway, if you've got perfectly competent people that know the zoo and its animals then why wouldn't you work to retain them? But some don't?
  14. That is a pretty blatant rip off of the Disney show if that is the case.
  15. I think if you were going to do some sort of concrete pattern then it should have been done when it was poured, either by making a wavy pattern in the concrete with a grooved device, or by making a wavy pattern by embedding stones. The only thing I could think of doing could be to use rubarok, again laid in a pattern. Paint (as they have done in the old Wipeout pool) wouldn't last at all, and would be too slippery in the wet.
  16. This probably explains it better than me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminal_velocity As you can see, its a pretty complex thing to work out. But basically, if there was no air friction things would keep accelerating at 9.8 ms^-2 until they hit the ground. But in reality air friction causes drag, and the faster you are moving the more drag occurs. When it is falling fast enough the upward drag forces will equal the downward weight force of the object, and since the net force on it is zero it stops accelerating, and just keeps falling at a constant rate instead.
  17. No, its steel, I'm not sure where you can see timber. The ride does look a bit dirty, but in Hawaii everything from buildings to light posts seem to have have rust coloured stains on them (I'm guessing it is something to do with the local environment/weather) have a look at the other slides in the park to see what I mean. Appearance wise, it seems pretty functional, the reason why it at the bottom it is narrower is because rafts don't reach that point anyway, so why waste money on materials you don't need. I too wouldn't have minded seeing a H20 Disco type ride, but this should be decent anyway. One thing to note is that the manufacturer make a few versions, including one with more of a normal water slide at the start and finish, I think that would be a good way to flesh it out and differentiate it from Tornado. Edit: Close up of slide where you can see the construction method.
  18. Something else interesting I found: http://www.navcon.com/CaseStudy_10.htm It's the dB level diagrams of Kraken. The loudest areas of this ride are directly under it, and range from 75-80dB (But of course, the public don't have access) This is as loud as a car (7.5m away). The rest of the park ranges from 50-65 (with a few small pockets above that) This is as loud as human conversation. So logically, if you build any coasters on the edge of the park, noise really won't be an issue. What is interesting though, is that the zoo already has the zoo safari tours in buses (AK has them too) and as we know on these tours, you get pretty close to the animals. Now buses are a bit louder than cars (I'm not sure of the exact amount), but if we take it as 80 dB, we can conclude that the animals are already regularly being exposed to noise levels equivalent to that of the areas directly under a roller coaster.
  19. I was a bit at first, but I'm guessing it was maybe this show. Using a quote might have made things clearer in his post.
  20. Haha, dont step out from the middle.
  21. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,2...17-2862,00.html Another group is protesting the park, again claiming noise will disturb the animals (in other news, the evil noisy DW has had 3 tiger cubs born a few days ago) and also claiming light will disturb the animals (WVTP cant even get their dry GC parks open on a regular basis at night, what makes them think theyd do it in Melbourne) However, I have another rant, not related to that story though. A line I have commonly heard against this park is "This park will teach our children that animals are just for entertainment" That line really makes me annoyed, Adults are so overprotective and think everything is potentially damaging for children, they can't have any fun any more and its the reason the current generation of kids is so messed up. Really, what effect is it going to have in the long term? Even if it did have some sort of negative impact, its not going to have a long term impact because as kids mature, they start to build their own views on animals anyway. Its not as if a 7 year old will visit, be brainwashed, and then go on a rampage of animal exploitation. People do have hindsight with respect to their childhood. (And I'm not even mentioning the positive educational impacts this park could have) I mean, take vegetarians/vegans, kids don't really start off vegetarian at a young age, its an choice they make later in life when they have had a chance to form their own opinions. And who remember this clip: I suppose that would teach kids that animals are for entertainment.
  22. While they do have really innovative products, and have taken a huge chunk of the market, one big issue I have with them is that their products weather really poorly. If you look at WWW and WnW, their proslide rides have faded quite a lot, meanwhile the Whitewater West slides in the water play areas look as good as day one. Yeah, definitley, I think it is really important the parks find points of difference, and really try to exploit it. I mean, simply theming stuff could be one way...if you look at the Disney waterparks, their slides are largely the most run of the mill types, but it is the act of theming that sets them apart. The other way, as you said is to perhaps look outside of the waterslide box, things like splash battles and splash party coasters seem like a good direction to go in.
  23. Good work mate, you've linked to the exact same video posted 2 posts before
  24. Hmmm, not quite, WWW does pretty much finish of the range with their upcoming rides, but there still are things they could try. One thing that has caught my eye is the Tornado Tantrum (See the vid at http://www.proslide.com/sub.php?mainRideID=1&rideID=4 ), essentially what you'd get if you mixed one of those mini tornadoes with a dark mammoth slide. And of course, there are a few of those extreme slide types, like the body slide version of a toilet bowl, and turbo tunnels. Though, it is a bit dissapointing, that for a lot of parks, it has reached a stage where their only hope for a new attraction is to wait for what new slide proslide brings to the table. That said, it's should still be pretty fun, but the main reason I'm all for it is because its more capacity for the park.
  25. I was just looking over the GC DA website, and it seems as if there was an application approved on the 02/06/08 for a "Sidewinder" attraction. http://pdonline.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/Maste...&key=232692 (Hope that link works, if not, go to http://pdonline.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/Maste....aspx?page=home and find WnW/MW) My first thought on this is that it is one of these: http://www.waterfunproducts.com/products/sidewinder.asp An OK ride from experience, though it seems pretty similar to what tornado does. And yes, I am aware there are already slides named 'Sidewinder' in the park.
