Well this was a dissapointment, I was hoping to have a good old chat about smiley faces. As for the video, well, it does what it says on the tin, but it would have been better without the rainbow colour changing effect.

Haha, I forgot to post my thoughts on the wheel (I was back in Adelaide for a couple of days, and had a free afternoon, I wanted to go on the new tram, and saw the opportunity to finish off that gallery hence me heading back...didn't go on anything though) Anyway, I thought the wheel looked stupid. The Beachouse itself is pretty modern looking, but the wheel looks silly, with cabins that look like something you'd find in a kinder suprise, with garish and tacky patterns on them. What's worse is that its on the opposite side of the complex to the beach, and height wise is not even taller than the trees in the park. It would've been better if they had gone for the larger model to give decent views, and had just used plain cabins with more refined colours. I see understand why the park is having issues. One big thing missing IMO is the lack of an all day wristband, You are basically limited to spending credits on individual rides, or buying packages with set numbers on certain rides...I mean one of the things on offer is a "Super Deal" for $45, and with that you still dont get to go on all the rides, and you only get 5 goes down the water slides. The closest thing they have to unlimited are 2 hour time cards, but these only run 9am-11am or 5pm-7pm on weekends. These sorts of offers would do nothing to encourage people to hang around for a day or part thereof and do other stuff. Personally, I also think that if they were building a new centre they should have used the opportunity to be more adventurous, as all of the rides just tread over very familiar ground. I have said this in the past, but I think the waterslides were a big missed opportunity, the surge in the popularity of water park development suggests the numbers must add up for operators, so given that they could have made them the focal point of the complex (as was the case with Magic Mountain) I think they could have done just one of each of the major slide types (One bowl, one body, one high speed, one inner tube, one family cloverleaf slide, one tornado alley)...no need to duplicate because the capacity requirements aren't as high. All of a sudden the place is more marketable as its more of a waterpark now, and it becomes something more revistable, particularly in the summer months.
  5. Cadboy, he is referring to this line of Swannys post:
  6. I think that is the main gist, as a water park attraction It works well, but clearly they just rushed it into DW so they could have something new for that year, hence it being a poor decision.
  7. Ill have to check it out, but could the red be part of a sort of Japanese theme?
  8. Yeah I think the proven stratergy is just to turn up before the gates open, and then when inside the park head up to the end of main street where the ropes are, and then at 10am when the ropes drop just go straight into Scooby and keep re riding, and you should get a few rides in before it gets too busy, since not everybody turns up in time for opening, and a lot of people get caught up in the queues for buying tickets (Needless to say, pre purchase). The thing to keep in mind is that at any of the GC parks you can seek out virtually any ride at opening, and re ride multiple times successfully. Its not like some of those big American parks where you can be first on the ride in the morning, and then as you exit see that a 45 minute queue has flooded in within the few minutes you were on the ride.
  9. ^I've said this in the past, but I think the Cyclone purchase was a good thing (Even though the ride is pants), It was great value for money, and gave a lot of us the chance to ride a coaster we might never have gotten to go on otherwise. If it had been announced back in 2001 that some overseas park was getting it (Or a scrap dealer) I can guarantee a lot of people would have been upset.
  10. ^^Bingo, a water park is not the place people would get sloshed at anyway (Probably to expensive for that). I'd imagine they would be serving it just to fill a gap in their offerings, suprise but some people just have a drink because they enjoy it (I think that has sort of been forgotten in all this hype about binge drinking...there seems to be an assumption that people only drink to get drunk), so its nothing more than a complement to their existing F&B offerings. Besides, the attractions already state they are not to be used by those under the influence, so I'd imagine the staff would be able to pull up anybody who somehow did get drunk at the park before any dangerous situations managed to occur.

Just a little observation, but it seems very frequent for people to say this scared them as a little kid, and not just on this forum (I think I rode it when I was 3 or 4, I think I probably scared by it too, but can't really remember, might have to ask mum) Do you think part of the reason it was eventually scrapped was because it just scared such a large proportion of the family audience it was aimed at?
  12. Plus "Bite Me" at WWW serves alcohol anyway, so it's not as if there isn't a precedent here....The other day I was actually wondering to myself why WnW was the only GC park not to have some sort of licensed venue.
  13. They put a bar in? Whereabouts?
  14. Ian told me a couple of days back that they had finished putting the fibreglass on the structure, and they were now focusing more on the start tower, so I'm not going to bother going down for updates because it will most likey just look very similar to the finished product. Anyone who lives closer is more than welcome to get some pics though My bet is that it will open first day of the holidays.
  15. I'm not even sure you would need to go as far as building a dam, pouring footings, and then flooding. I'm not an engineer, but I'm sure they could just apply conventional techniques for building in bodies of water. I mean, when they built this coaster they just put in footings without doing any draining. http://www.rcdb.com/ig4005.htm?picture=2 http://www.rcdb.com/ig4005.htm?picture=12 I think a possible way to incorporate water would just be to dig a bunch of manmade ponds at strategic places in the ride area.
  16. Nothing wrong with saying that at all, I mean I don't get why they would use talk on a forum in an article.
  17. They mentioned me? How does that work? Did they quote me from the forums? Please, go into more details. Edit: Found the article: http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2008/0...coast-news.html Why are they quoting me for, what do I know? I was just putting up what I have heard from other sources. Ian rang me about 5 mins ago, and was just happy his site got mentioned.
  18. ^Well, at the end of the day these are Australian theme parks, and you'd have to be tremendously unlucky not to get on most of the major rides, since the days where the parks are that bad seem to be few and far between.
  19. This would be the one: On a slightly related note, Jamberoo's new website seems to have a lot of subtle similarities to the myfun site. Well, to be fair African Safari World was a serious proposal, but things didn't really turn out well for them. The important thing is that they have acknowledged the market, maybe a little while down the track they will try again, learning from past mistakes.
  20. More photos on Ozcoaster, stepping through the work on site until now (They have fully concreted that big pit below the station) http://themeparkphotography.com/TPP_Js080908.html
  21. Klassen is indeed correct, Behind each of the main street facades is a rather steep skillion roof that slopes backwards. You can see from the design of the new roof that it was designed to go right over the front of the facade, so any water falling off of it would be delivered straight onto the skillion roof behind (Just a little side note, but I'd hope that the guttering system for the Main St buildings is capable of dealing with the increase in roof area they are now effectively servicing) However, the Harry Potter store is the only building which doesn't follow this pattern, since it has a roof that slopes foward...but not only that it doesn't seem to even have a gutter on the front. It's really just a consequence of the design they ran with...It would have looked silly to have an extended bit of roof going completely over the Harry Potter store...DJrappa got it in one, just whack a nice big gutter along the front of the shop, and that problem will be sorted. I'm not sure what you are saying about "water building up" because the roof is the same for the length of the street, so the water is going to fall evenly across it, and would have no place to "build up". I'll have to look when I'm there next, but some of the newer types of fake grass actually look very convincing. I remember seeing a number of companies flogging it at a home show as a water saving alternative to real lawn (Another side note, but what a joke, manufacturing it would use far more water than natural lawn, plus its non biodegradable) As for my thoughts on this, yeah it looks plain at the moment, and indeed looks like the car park of my local Coles, I would like to see them decorate the roof somehow with permanent fixtures suspended that reflect the movie theme....Imagine big star shapes, or giant 1m wide film strips weaving and twisting along the roof in an artistic manner. Here.

Dunno, It's not so much the number of opinions you get, but rather the quality...Were the other people you asked professional photographers, also with experience working in a camera store? What did they have to say about whatever AlexB's suggestion was (Eg did they warn you against it?) Had they used both? Thing is though, if someone is going to go into detail there is a good chance they know their stuff. Why make the effort to give a thorough opinion? Besides, if you cant base your decision on one forum then what is the point of the thread? Just my two cents. But yeah, going back to my original advice, just look at what games you want, and buy the platform that supports them, since the actual thing you play them on doesn't really matter.
  23. This was before the Superman Escape epoch from memory, but for a period WVTP asked all the Australian theme park sites to take down photos of the WVTP parks. A little while later they softened it a bit, asking that photos be approved by the marketing department. I don't know what the situation is now, whether they still require permission, but I'm guessing no or else they would have been emailing you about your content. According to what Richo put on the r-c dev blog a while back, he's saying that since Parkz is now more user driven, it is in the same category as Flickr, Youtube, Facebook etc, hence any attempts to single out Parkz would not really stand.
  24. ^Haha $132 Mil Disney park...I'd imagine it would be comprised of rides like Mullholland Madness and Primeval Whirl. The moment I read this thread I immediatley thought of Space World in Japan, though obviously at $132 Mil the scale would be considerably less. BTW, Hey Flea, nice to see you are still around.
  25. Yeah, I'd agree that a light capable of producing thousands of patterns would be damaging to the moral standards of the community. Re the Nemo light, is it something like this?
