  1. I know its been a while, but the park did used to sell showbags in the exit market hall. It honestly was pretty dingy and I prefer the parkway - even if it doesn't get used anymore for what was intended. I'm prepared to cut slack for the showy trucks on the basis that some of their biggest sources of income for the year have been destroyed by the pandemic, and by permitting them to temporarily set up in the park as part of an event in which it suits the overall theme - i'm going to give them a very low level pass, purely for helping their cousins in industry. Janine Allis' Boost Juice Empire, on the other hand, can fuck right off. Just my opinion.
  2. If its a particular talent (like leather painting or caricatures) then I don't mind them getting contractors in to sell their product as a 'thing you wouldn't normally get just anywhere' but I really dislike the chain joints providing a service that the park could provide just as easily if they could actually be bothered. It really dismays me that we're seeing the term 'local westfield' bandied about so much more these days - but the boost truck.... *shudder*
  3. Some of the advertising i've seen around today on this is a bit misleading - but they do eventually point out that it also only applies to residents of the gold coast postcodes. Honestly at this price point it would have convinced me to get back onboard as I don't think it's worth full price right now, but despite living closer to Dreamworld than half of the gold coast, i'm not a 'local' for this particular special price. I get that it is offered by an alternate organisation, but being posted by the park's own socials didn't make that very clear until it rejected my postcode. The terms of the pass you scroll through specifically state that the locals pass is valid for QLD residents, only to reject your postcode further down the transaction. We were set to buy 4, and with plans to stay on the coast at the end of October lining up with their Halloween event, we were already discussing attending that, what extras to buy and how long it had been since our last visit that there was a whole bunch of things my 5 year old could now ride - and now we're back to square one with zero interest in paying full price for their current offering. I realise this is a certain level of entitlement, but its the feeling of being mislead with a 'gotcha' hidden further down the track that pisses me off.
  4. YoU wOuLdN't StEaL a CaR... I've no interest in paying for the RMC doco so I just won't see it... I am keen for the BSF \ CFS doco though, and am happy to pay an Australian distributor when it is released here. I'll wait in the meantime. But 99c (USD no doubt!) for solitaire? Man - what a monster you are!
  5. I do believe the last time we saw coaster testing there was mention that the ride had to complete 100 cycles, or 100 hours, or some sort of milestone before it could carry people. or guests. or something like that. Perhaps now they've completed their first runs they've got some running data to tweak things - change some wheels over to increase\decrease speeds, or perhaps they're waiting for the other train\spinner for the next tests? They've got plenty of time, but I doubt we're seeing it these school holidays.
  6. that would be a positive sign. 🤞
  7. For everything else you've said, you've missed the entire point. Wet Ride. Open in Winter. Closed in Warmer months. Forget 'peak park seasons' and just think of 'Annual Seasons' - spring, summer, autumn, and finally - times I don't want to ride a water ride. I get the whole 12 month cycle thing. honestly, it sucks that that's where we're at, but its good because it ensures we don't get slack about inspection intervals. But you could bring the water rides forward in the schedule 2-4 weeks every year until they're lined up with May-August periods. This would impact the dry rides you've had to shuffle, but only by a fortnight to a month at a time, and only one at a time. If other rides complement the maintenance cycles of specific rides, shuffle them too. A little bit at a time rather than all in one hit. Go back over the forums and you'll see many times, every year every time water ride maintenance comes up, people have cried foul both park chains for having water rides closed in summer and open in winter. its a no brainer, and this stupid schedule needs to change, purely from a guest satisfaction point of view.
  8. I do get where you're coming from but the simple fact is - water rides (all water rides) should be scheduled to have their major downtimes and maintenance in the cooler months. It just makes sense, and its ridiculous to have those major attractions down in summer months just because 'thats how the schedule worked out'. they should change the schedule to align rides with their peak seasons. its just common sense.
  9. Putting aside all of the pomp and circumstance, I wouldn't bet on it until you see the parts on-site. ok this applies to rides but the same thing applies to the hotel too - until they start major civil works, it's not a guarantee. And even when they DO start ground works - and even put up billboards - sometimes it gets canned. #SeaWorldWild
  10. It hasn't been down for a major refurb. Wait for it... Road Runner Wild West Falls Scooby Doo
  11. *sigh. so sick of all these thoosie pages uploading a copy of the video with their own text or logo over the top without so much as even attributing the original source making it look like its "their vid". At least OurWorlds includes attribution. Well... I guess we all know what that last rock mesh was for... *Shots fired at Movie World lol.
  12. I'd be interested to know how many people here have ridden that.
  13. Apparently Dreamworld does (which was my point) - and you made a similar point of mentioning that here recently when Golden Years received a press release \ invite and Parkz \ Ourworlds did not. Amusingly, you used similar words back then to argue the opposite to what you're arguing now. This isn't meant to start a shitfight - i'm simply pointing out that two weeks ago you yourself said what you're now disagreeing with me about. I think this sums it up. Much like the conversation yesterday about the ride not being as good as rivals in the public's eye (which was strongly argued against) I don't think the public at large are going to see anything wrong with this as a POV. It could have been done better - enthusiasts, hard core videographers, and those that are both can see what improvements can be made. I CBF digging but i'm fairly certain we all shot down the horrible, rattly, jolting Rivals POV, and to date, I don't believe the park has updated it - so its fairly safe to say this is 'fine' and it's probably going to stay. They don't have to install house lights for evacs if there's natural light....
  14. How can I be so triggered by such few words? So sorry you lost such a good friend. Do you need any help drinking the rest of the wine? Pretty much everyone here is still 'general public' but I understand you mean non-enthusiast, and as an enthusiast I disagree. I had heard about the transition weirdness before I watched it, and honestly I expected it to be bad - and I didn't really see an issue. Sure it's weird, but its not bad... Worse than rivals? Sorry - I disagree. That rattly shaky noisy mess was garbage - they'd have been better off waiting until the onboard cameras were active and using them. I appreciate the smoothness that this shot provides, even though the smoothing has occurred in camera, i think it represents a clear, viewable image of the ride experience, and leaves the surprises of motion to when you ride it. I know, you've perfected POV shoots and have the right rig and method, and you'd be happy to do it for them, but based on what you said on the forums recently, you're not their favourite person so its unlikely they'd ask in any event. (Gonna get off my soapbox because you already know everything else anyway). I'm happy enough with what we got. It could be better, but it also could have been far worse.
  15. I wonder if they can stick to their limits, or whether we get another NYE party fiasco.
  16. ...not a bad little zoo either. quite a nice little collection, if somewhat limited.
  17. Agree. I believe DCR had a little help with it's enthusiast bias with some minor adjustments to increase that all-too-delicious airtime... however there's the big 'general public' drawcard that Taipan has over Rivals - and that is INVERSIONS. Taipan racks up FOUR inversions according to it's stats. Track length is similar with rivals only another 200m longer - but due to the swing launch and transfer track motions, it will feel (and probably be) a longer ride time experience. The speed difference is negligible - about 10km/h which is nothing unless you're behind someone doing 105 on the pac MWY in the fast lane (and then it feels really sloooow). The height here is a big standout (clearly not a hypercoaster) but considering Superman continues to hold it's own in a park side-by-side with Rivals, I don't think a 40m launched coaster is that much worse off compared to Rivals. We can only judge on the stats as the ride experience cannot be compared yet so anyone calling Taipan for being a failure at this point has problems with prematurity. As for cost - it depends on what else was included in the construction cost quoted. It could be increased costs due to COVID delays. It could factor in costs associated with rerouting the train, removing the TOT track, the demolition costs and\or earthworks associated with TRRR, BB Studios, Train Shed, or any other peripheral works that are easier to write off under a bigger project cost centre. Until you know you're comparing apples with apples, construction costs are to be heavily salted. Curiosity got the better of me so I measured it. Just the FLAT section of the initial launch measures in at 96m not including either inclined end. Given the triple launch and swing, that 96m is tripled (plus the spike and first hill sections) so you're easily on-par with Rivals for track length TRAVELLED.
  18. I can't access that link, but Channel 9 published a drone video of the full cycle, so I assume its the same one? I'll be honest, its the first media i've seen of this ride that has actually made me excited about it.
  19. Well there you go, I stand corrected - according to a 2015 development application, approximately 25% of their visitation comes from tour-bus, with 70% (mostly domestic presumably) by car. It seems they were trying to increase their Chinese appeal however: And there's also mention in an article reporting the council's partial approval of this application that extended trading would specifically be permitted on days relevant to Chinese New Year
  20. After all the hype, and buildup, and delays, that was the biggest disappointment. #brightsunfilms
