Sega World making a return to Australia?!
I think some of Timezone's explosion here has been the fact that TEEG purchased Ardent's bowling and entertainment division, significantly expanding their market share, presence and diversifying their centres into more than just 'arcades'. If I remember correctly, they chopped some AMF centres up and shipped bowling equipment to arcades, and created bigger arcades in their bowling centres to create a better destination with existing assets. Absolutely Surfers renovation was necessary to bring it into the 21st century. I guess what I mean is - TEEG had skin in the game, and then they bought a hell of a lot more skin. Sega trying to break into this would need a point of difference to Timezone's offering, or would need to simultaneously open dozens of competing centres and undercut the existing product. Neither of which is a slam dunk. Sonic - in my opinion, was far more iconic in the 90s than today, and the introduction of a film, which was met with a fairly ordinary and lukewarm reception. The film was released just as COVID-19 was ramping up, and while there is no factual basis for this, i'm sure it probably contributed to the explosion of coronavirus cases in the US. because science. I enjoyed Jim Carrey films as a kid. Then I developed taste. TIL they're actually developing STH-2, so clearly it was more successful than I gave it credit for (i'd only heard bad things about the film). I think the current appeal can be attributed to two factors - adults who reminisce about their youth, and kids who don't know any better.

Movieworld 30 Year Anniversary Celebration Predictions
I'll give you the 'replaced nothing' for GL, Batwing and west. Superman is an incredible coaster, and it is absolutely a great addition to the park (integrated far better than Rivals too) but at the loss of one of their last 'we're a park about making movies' attractions. Sure it was tired and hadn't been updated in years and it was easier to pave paradise and put up an accelerator than to refresh it that required specific movie making skill. SFX show was always repeatable - Most people I know would go every visit. Superman however is now a 'once and done' attraction for me (and sometimes not even once if the queue is too long), primarily because of the wait time and the stench of the unwashed in the queueline. I think suggesting Superman is better than the SFX show is really subjective. Not everyone enjoys high thrill. Not everyone meets the height requirements (and some are too tall!) but SFX literally burned through people and was a capacity monster (and filled out the day at MW as it went for more than 60 seconds), and actually let people explore movies. I love Superman - but I think comparing SE and SFX is like comparing apples with helicopters - no fair comparison. Doomsday's area is awesome. The design is great. But the interactive elements were always going to break down and become unusable, and the ride is a complete disappointment, and Blazing Saddles was a really nicely themed area leading to the Western Stage to really set the mood. Sure, it was still a 'nothing' area - but that was by design - it was meant to be a crowd containment area for a really popular showstage - that then never got used. My issues with the doomsday \ blazing saddles area all stem from one single thing - which leads me to - Road runner. Junior coaster. 1000% necessary in the kids area (although the increased height restriction killed much of that), but at the expense of - another show stage. Roadrunner wasn't a 'nothing' replacement. It replaced the kids area stage. Maybe not as good as the Western Showstage, but it kept the kids entertainment INSIDE the kids area. Folks with little'uns are less likely to trek across practically the entire width of the park to see a Looney Tunes show that isn't in the Looney Tunes land. Which is why the show saw low attendance, which eventually led to them canning the show altogether which is why a huge amount of stadium seating is now hidden behind some black drapes and the stage area has been converted into a glorified prop house. Losing these two show stages mean temporary performances occur in the HSD Arena, hardly ideal for non-car shows, or they occur in the middle of main street. Static performances in your main (and only) arterial link between the front and back of the park choke up the area. There are no upwards seating pits, so its standing room only and the shows only attract a handful of guests because nobody else can see once the crowd thickens. (And watching it on the big screens isn't nearly the same). Movie World has had a lot of improvements, and a lot of things are a change for the better. But there are some changes which are only subjectively better for some people in some respects. And some 'nothing' replacements weren't actually 'nothing'. And some changes are ultimately worse. Is the overall package better overall? I think the answer there is a big 'that depends'... I'll leave you with my final thoughts - Back when we had Western Showstage, SFX, Studio Tour, BATR, LTRR, PASS - was the park a full day park? ...And barring one-train ops with 5 minute despatch times, is the park still a full day park?

Movieworld 30 Year Anniversary Celebration Predictions
^I think though the difference comes down to @Slick's old adage - a replacement has to be better than the original. I know there's some debate on some Universal attractions, but I think overall, the park's lineup today isn't suffering like MW's is.

Movieworld 30 Year Anniversary Celebration Predictions
That's my point though - this sign, which is apparently permanent, has been designed to have intelligent lighting inside it, which will only be seen during night events. To me it seems like a waste.

Sega World making a return to Australia?!
Sega was at the peak of it's popularity in the mid-90s. The park itself was great to visit but struggled to get visitation - I'm not sure why, it was great to spend a few hours - but these days Sega has ceased to be relevant. They no longer produce consoles, their games are now released on more popular platforms like Nintendo Switch, and it's no longer enough to plonk a crap ton of arcade machines alongside some bad 90's VR tech and call it a park when people carry VR devices in the palm of their hand and home gaming consoles have better graphics and more performance than any capcom arcade cabinet. Especially when you see the standard Nintendo have set at Universal - and its a no from me. By the sounds of things, not many people remember Sega World - and its not surprising given how long ago it closed - so for those of you who are looking for a bit more info on it - check this out: https://youtu.be/30rewscpdE8 See-Ga Later!

Movieworld 30 Year Anniversary Celebration Predictions
Hey folks! Check out all the really awesome stuff this park used to have! I mean, its all cool and everything when they add lighting packages to things, but when you close at 5pm 90% of the time, it just seems like such a waste of money. As for favourites - In this order, the Western Stunt Show, the SFX Show, and the gravity homestead. LTRR comes in a close fourth, and (as a kid) the touchscreen carrots. (kids today have no idea).

Rocky Hollow Log Ride Demolition - Dreamworld
To give a little perspective on what is 'outdated'.... Police Academy - a franchise with 7 movies over 10 years from 1984-1994 had the marquee show at Movie World from 1991-2008 - a total of 17 years, retiring at a point when the first movie was 24 years old, and the most recent release was 14 years old. By many accounts, the show was still popular and the franchise was at least fairly relevant, although the park (and some fans) argued otherwise. To give some perspective - Shrek is within that same range right now, although Madagascar has a couple years left, and KFP is only about halfway there. The world moves a bit quicker these days than the simple days of Mahoney - plus the dreamworks licencing is a lot more complicated these days than WB ever had to deal with... so maybe Dreamworks still has relevance for a little while yet... As for Lego being boring - Lego Movie released in 2014, Lego Batman in 2017, Lego Movie 2 in 2019 and Lego Batman due in 2022. Putting aside the TV movies, TV shows, spin offs, conventions for ball machines, bricks, robotics, they've also infiltrated classrooms, video games and almost every other outlet and media source there is. While certain character licences might not be allowed, LegoLand parks across the world have shown that lego as a theme is anything but boring.

Rocky Hollow Log Ride Demolition - Dreamworld
Come on let's not get carried away here.... while i've pointed to several, possible indications that suggest the dreamworks licence deal has come to an end, this is all coincidental and circumstantial. We've got no proof or announcement from the park and until we do - let's not write the area off entirely.

Came here just to say much the same. Precincts were on the nose when they were just different scare zones at fright nights. Precincts should stay in the Police Academy universe where they belong. To all park operators - PLEASE stop calling new lands, zones, areas (or even just singular attractions) a "precinct". I'll even buy you a thesaurus if it helps you. /rant

Steel Taipan rises over Log Ride rubble at Dreamworld
I may be, but i'm not. I sat in the court room as the coroner delivered his findings for TRRR. I'm not oblivious, i'm not fooling myself, and i'm not an idiot. The facts are that you're still more likely to die on the way to the park than inside the park itself. That doesn't give any park operator a free pass to be lax on standards. I think its appalling that Dreamworld was so arrogant as to their maintenance that they suggested to the state gov they didn't need external government oversight because they were so good at it... before killing people. Yeah, ok, it's human interest, people go to theme parks so its a topic that people will have an interest in - BUT - the inclusion of fully six (I saw the promo on it too) is a bit rough - that case is unsettled. There's no doubt the injuries occurred but there are no outcomes yet as to liability. By all means do a story of what goes on behind, and by all means be truthful - but show the whole truth that includes the rigorous processes parks go through every day, AND the tightened government regulation they are now subjected to forcing them to close rides for longer and longer, and use the facts such as that mentioned above - that you are more likely to die on the way to a park than in it. Try this for sensationalism... That blurb is a rollercoaster in and of itself: Remember watching together forever - suggesting that this is something so groundbreaking it will be etched into your memory forever Tightly held secrets - suggesting something to hide (which by the way i'm sure is almost common knowledge for many enthusiasts, so probably not that tightly held) Global billion dollar....industry. Want to make something seem bad? Tell people how much money the industry makes. You know whats more ominous than the global billion dollar theme park industry? the global trillion dollar milk industry. Never before seen vision - this implies that it has been hidden away, lost or otherwise kept secret - instead of - you know - recorded specifically for this special such as interviews to get soundbytes. It then caps off with 'most fun you will have'... this year. Secrets, Hidden, Forever, BIllion Dollars. Most Fun. Let's start with the dictionary - Media - the main means of mass communication (broadcasting, publishing, and the internet) regarded collectively. Wiki offers this on Media: Journalism - the activity or profession of writing for newspapers, magazines, or news websites or preparing news to be broadcast. Wiki also offers this on Journalism: This post has gone on for long enough so i'll try to be brief in conclusion: Note that the Wiki on Media lists 'news media' as just one element or component of the overall. The journalism wiki on the other hand is specific to being based on facts and supported with proof or evidence. What happens though, is that genuine journalists write articles that are based on facts, and supported with evidence, but in order to promote the story, and profit from it, the media hypes it with sensationalist turns of phrase, headlines and gotcha type promos in order to entice the public to want to watch\read\listen to it. Journalists work IN media, but Media =\= Journalism. ETA: I'm conscious i've made assumptions here that this story is negatively slanted. The promo certainly suggests it. But I do recognise (and the promo 'the most fun you've had' also suggests) that the story isn't entirely doom and gloom. That they've gone to Cedar to ask questions means there is likely a lot of factual based reporting here, and it's highly likely that we're all complaining about a story before we've even seen it. With that said though - there's a reason many of us write these stories off before seeing it - and its because too many times they don't portray the entire situation fairly - i am however happy for this story to prove me wrong.

In today's world, it is a very important distinction to note that "Media" =\= "Journalism"

Dreamworld General Park Update - April 2021
"Vintage cars benefits from the now-defunct log-ride photo camera" "Train line benefits from all the left-over corrugated sheeting they bought to hide TRRR after they killed four people." I'm fairly certain that past the woolshed area the fencing was old timber sleeper style fence, with maybe chicken wire on it, wasn't it? not pool fence? (agree that billabong area had pool fence though).

Rocky Hollow Log Ride Demolition - Dreamworld
It depends on what you call legitimate. It was "homemade", and post-TRRR, there is a distinct lack of appetite for attractions designed in-house. That said, it has been said here previously that the ride could be upgraded by a reputable log flume manufacturer if the park had the appetite for it. New logs, a new logic system... the flume itself is likely the least of the problem and the water is already there. It's totally possible, and could have been done for much less than ripping it out entirely and having to repurpose the space into something that doesn't stick out like the proverbial thumb. So, was there a legitimate reason? Sort of but not really. Post TRRR, the safest course of action is to take no risks with water rides at all. I hadn't considered that, but Vintage Cars did have a bridge\tunnel thing once upon a time, didn't it? so if that can be reused for the cars, it's probably the most authentic theming they could have given it and much better than the carport out behind corroboree.

Luna park 9 new rides construction
It doesn't block it completely - maybe only half? there are posts in the middle of the archway that look like 'envelope' fencing (ie, 2m high). If you look at the pictures you quoted, you can see some temporary fencing set up from the archway and around - i've no knowledge whatsoever, but i'd speculate that that fencing probably roughly follows the path a guest will follow.

Steel Taipan Construction - Dreamworld Mack launched roller coaster
As Pin said, as long as they're not in the way of construction and lifting, it's a non issue. I think though that this has been standard practice in Australia for a while. Overseas is a very different story, and it certainly gets it all together sooner.

Rocky Hollow Log Ride Demolition - Dreamworld
Unlike TRRR - which had a large water reservoir in the centre of its envelope, Rocky Hollow's footprint has the water reservoir at one end. Not counting the concrete trough, the rest of the envelope (about 5000sqm) wouldn't need time to 'settle' at all. The water reservoir in the top left of the above picture (including the flume loop) is only about 2000sqm of the site, and if I remember correctly, the section inside the flume loop is concreted, isn't it? So depending on what they plan to do, with the appropriate compaction and civils work, there isn't really a lot of 'settling' most of the land could do. My money is on this becoming a 'pleasant' area to look at as guests walk down the path to corroboree for now, with possible expansion down the track if they have the money to do so (by by gosh its ripe for a mad little woodie).

Movie world Maintenance 2021
Our house is right next to a padmount transformer. My wife worked for the company that built the entire estate so i've seen the plans including the civils. We are number 1 off the pad, and my two neighbours are number 2 & 3. Across the road (fed from the same tranny) lost power for about an hour.
