  1. Haha - as soon as I saw this post I wondered if i'd be able to see it. At the very back right corner you can just make out the multi-layered tiers of the old christmas tree that used to sit on top of the arch at christmas time. I bought the whole thing for $50.
  2. The last time I checked, the park writes to residents within a certain range of the park to let them know they'll be operating late, and offers them tickets or something to invite them to participate where its a public event as an appeasement to local residents who would otherwise complain. I'm not sure how much is good faith and how much is required by council to permit the trade or whatnot, but I know its happened in the past. For MW to trade regularly beyond sunset, they'd probably need to enter the real estate game and buy up a lot of local housing. As for the hotel, I am hoping this is being positioned for families rather than corporate - or perhaps offer both (they do this decently at Sea World Resort, in my opinion) as while the corporate and events space will utilise the onsite hotel for convenience (if the price is right, that is) I also see it as convenient for younger families with kids that have an early bedtime - because you can leave the park, head back to your room, bath the kids and put them to bed. The precinct also offers nighttime family entertainment including AOS, TopGolf and WNW movies (seasonal), so even the older kids that don't stray far from their parents can still have some 'night time' activities after the park - but still close enough to head back to your hotel room, drop your souvenirs and day bags, shower off the grime of the day and get changed into some nice dinner clothes to go out with. I'm reading above the "its too far from the clubs and bars" and that's fine for that market, but i think families will like the northern GC positioning that provides the convenience of being on the doorstep of MW, PC, AOS, WNW, TopGolf, DW & WWW - just the theme park chains alone provide up to 4 days and at least 2 nights of solid entertainment if you do everything (and the hotel itself may offer enough entertainment to fill a couple of 'downtime' nights within the hotel area itself). Having done Main\broadbeach holidays and visiting the parks from there, Smith Street \ GC HWY was murder at the wrong time, and really ate into the day - spending an hour on a bus to get to all the northern parks was painful. Staying at Oxenford, even if its only for half of your week on the coast, is going to be far more convenient if you're happy to do nothing but Village\Ardent property - and theres a lot of people (not just enthusiasts) out there that would. I can't wait to see how this all plays out.
  3. I am sure these films are expensive to produce, but I would like to see Dreamworld invest in a few different local ones they could cycle through over a few years. Maybe even get a few cut scenes with various themes for various events like halloween (pumpkins and cornfields) or christmas (yule fires and snow). The marketability of these "different" shows has been talked about before and its a great way to get locals to visit repeatedly too. I think one of my last visits to DW was to see the USA video...
  4. I remember several theme park shows from my younger days that had no IP association to them, that were well produced. The reason given for the closure of PASS was that the IP was outdated and kids didn't know the police academy story. It's arguable that the show stood on it's own without the police academy backstory, though, and it probably could have continued on for many more years than it did. Perhaps with some updates to technical effects and some new stunts every now and then. It's been a long time, but I had heard the main reason PASS was removed was that the show was too expensive to operate, and the very well trained stunt performers were a cost that the bean counters preferred not to keep shelling out for when they could down-skill the cast by having a car\drifting show that had many more capable folk out there able to perform the role. I guess a little like the Dreamworld railway story - replacing the steam train with a lawn mower so you don't need qualified steam engineers to run it every day. I would however like to see them do something more with HWSD than the current "live at the ekka" performances we currently see.
  5. These shows are such a headache! If only there was a Terry White Chemmart nearby?
  6. When the names for these rides were revealed, I (and a few others if i recall) felt some of the names to be a bit disappointing - including the generic boomerang (since most parks around the world are this lazy with the boomerang ride models). But seeing this artwork and the nod to indigenous culture - so long as the artwork was commissioned by an appropriate indigenous artist - its very appropriate I think.
  7. Cue more rakes. *triggered* Great find @Brad2912 thanks for posting!
  8. Oh you poor thing. Our deepest sympathies. *not sarcasm* They did at opening. All it resulted in was a bunch of cars stacking in the extended brake run (in the sun) for a long period of time. If it had a second unload station further back from load, you could probably make better use of it, but otherwise, no dice.
  9. In my personal opinion, someone must have croaked to produce these abominations. +5000 to this
  10. Haha - speaking of theme park bathrooms! Lol. I find the ones In corroboree (next to the Salty) are pretty damn good too (although the narration has legit fooled me into thinking the stall was occupied!)
  11. Don’t forget the time the Bathrooms at Movie World were a hot topic...
  12. Let’s be real, you do stupid things for Spongebob and Wacky Worms.
  13. You can also travel the world by post...
  14. Sadly - after changing it once in 17 years, I’ve used up my free name changes for a while. perhaps if we had a “fatland” we could have manufacturers begin to design rides to accommodate more than the 5’2”-5’10”, 70-90kg, narrow shouldered females they currently model every harness on...
  15. Even simpler than the above explanations- if it was officially approved and sanctioned, it would have been posted by the dreamworld marketing and socials, not rando-tube.com
  16. Much like Eureka-gate, if the parks had a problem, Richard would take it down. They’ve probably realised it’s a super cheap way to build hype without lifting a finger. Much as it might seem like a good idea to let it ride though, they do not want to be on the news if some idiot crashes one into a ride... Hire a professionally licensed operator and do it properly, then amateurs won’t even bother to try.
  17. Yeah, look - its possible. But if you go by that logic - it's also possible they're announcing the long-awaited construction of WILD! Stay tuned for further announcements announcing the announcement of an impending announcement!
  18. I'll say something positive - the guy is clearly passionate about his product and his brand. As I understand all of the circumstances surrounding, it wasn't his choice to leave this community, but I don't know enough to state anything as fact. I do know that Richard and the team are on record that they are happy to have anyone on here as a private individual giving their own thoughts as long as they aren't commercially motivated, so i'm sure that if he wanted to interact as a normal individual, and his employer permitted it, he'd probably still be here. He's shown repeatedly that he doesn't back away from challenging critics (even when that might be the best course of action) so my personal opinion is that I doubt his absence is for the reasons you suggest.
  19. Nail on the head.... Disney has long queues, especially for the newest attractions... but you don't FEEL like you're waiting because there's plenty of stuff to keep you occupied. The queues are just about as repeatable as the rides. Radiator Springs Racers opened in June 2012. We visited in April 2013 and it was still selling out fastpasses within 20 minutes of rope drop. Queues were routinely more than 2 hours for standby. We got a FP and queued in Standby and the amount of easter eggs, activities\interactives, themed signs and stories to read, and great ride-overview spots throughout - it felt like maybe half an hour? (Then it had a ride stoppage when we were 12 people from the front, but that's another story). Meanwhile, back on the GC.... Anyone that's visited Movie World during peak times can finish the following: "Hello and welcome...."
  20. Thanks Gazza, that's really well put. I guess the only question i've got is - if the guest is experiencing 1 hour waits per ride only on the busiest holiday days of the year - does that justify the additional capacity? or does that start to become 'over-investing and spending too much' ? I know you do a lot of work around transport - public transport and highways and such - should a park be investing in infrastructure to handle the 5pm peak hour? or the Park Average?
  21. I haven't seen that for sale at a gold coast park in a long time, much as I wish that wasn't the case. I value that very much - but I don't feel valued by either GC park chain at present. I look forward to a day when that changes. I don't see what that has to do with what you quoted - I simply said I wasn't going to waste time on a detailed and thoughtful analysis that would take far longer to write, because historical fact shows that it didn't matter what I said, or what evidence I provided, folks would disagree with me, which you did. 🤷‍♂️ History also says i'd then spend far too long rebutting your rebuttal of my rebuttal, and I just don't care that much anymore to engage in pointless bullshit. I just voiced my opinion and asked a question. It's fine. I'm not suggesting anyone is wrong, or right. I started my original reply with 'i'm a big fan of multiple trains' - i'm just questioning the economics of having a third, when history has shown every park on the coast has never felt the need for more than two (save for multi-train coasters like Scoob), and you've voiced your own thoughts which are different to mine. Clearly, we're all much smarter than the folks running these parks. (I could give some examples but it'd probably break some forum rule or something) - but we've long proven that our very smart ideas never get put into practice by the parks, for.. reasons? So I guess if we want 3 trains on Rivals or Taipan or Leviathan our best bet is probably to delete this whole thread and hope it comes to them in a dream or something so it can be their idea... ? Honestly the only park i've ever seen see something on Parkz and go "great idea! let's do that!" was Adventure World - and they were too stupid to keep on the very person who was listening to their biggest fans. /rant.
  22. I will say - you're assuming that a more efficient ridership results in more people doing non-ride things, instead of simply lining up for another ride, or re-riding the same efficient ride again because the queue is short. You've made concessions, but I dont think you've made enough concessions to allow for things like locals who spend next to nothing no matter what their day is like, and if you're banking on non-locals, many of those already spend their limit so more time wandering the park won't necessarily increase that. You refer to Disney, but Disney has merch people want to buy, and they change it often, and people go to their parks JUST to buy the new merch and ride nothing. So the comparison isn't going to work here with our atrocious merch offerings that rarely offer even a POLO SHIRT! Our parks are not Disney - and i'm sure that you already know that. I debated a long rebuttal with many facts and analysis to explain my different opinion, but much like playing chess with a pigeon, there isn't much point in me making any more detailed arguments - and i'm in no mood to clean the chess board. Either our current park leadership are idiots throwing away millions of dollars a year, or they don't think the economics make sense either.
  23. Don't get me wrong - i'm a big fan of having multiple trains - but Jet Rescue came with 2, and after the first 6-8 months they stopped pulling out the second train for all but the busiest christmas days. Arkham survived with 1 train despite the original red and blue trains spec'd for Lethal back in the day - which was 'purpled' years prior to the refurb, and did just fine. Supermand and Rivals both regularly have only one train running, and outside of peak holiday periods, one does just fine. It seems rare that our coasters NEED two trains (and its unforgiveable that the parks wouldn't have both trains available during school holiday periods) - but MORE than two trains? From random discussions and reading (don't ask for a source i've no clue) i'm pretty sure modern coaster trains are about a million bucks each. While we all bang on about guest experience that it's easy to say "what price on guest experience" to justify buying a third train for "just in case" but end of the day all our parks are businesses and they're in this to make money. the economics of doing so don't make sense to me, even though the enthusiast in me says that they should. Right?
