Ardent Leisure FY 20 results
It didn't even operate half the time due to, among other things, the issues with the restraint redundancy locks and the need to add seatbelts and such. Its difficulties were also compounded by the park closing off one row of seats so operators could use that row to cross over the station to perform restraint checks with one operator instead of the two intended. This impacted throughput\capacity. Also the ride is capable of multiple cycles and indeed operated that way in its first week before being returned to a single revolution - a lot of build up for a very short ride leaves many unsatisfied.

Am I missing something here? Stingray is not a recent removal. The Parkz database suggests this was removed in 2012, which sounds about right. I think the confusion is coming from the fact that a recent Parkz article incorrectly tagged Stingray instead of the Log Ride, which Richard subsequently fixed up.

Theme Parks Reopening Post COVID-19
Well, clearly then you have missed the point. We found out it was unexpectedly closed, when we expected it to be open, and we were quite disappointed. The reopening date meant we would not get to ride it, but it reopened early so we were pleasantly surprised. That one comparison shows both the disappointment of finding something closed when all signs said it would be open, as well as our delight when it reopened earlier than advertised. It goes directly to the point being made, but as usual, since it doesn't suit your narrative, it must be dismissed as irrelevant. I'm pretty sure that discussion was arguing that having the closures posted at the gate was desirable, not that the website was undesirable. Again, dismiss what doesn't suit your narrative. It depends on the reason for it. In the examples given earlier - they had to complete x cycles and didn't quite complete that many, sure - they expect to complete them the next day, give it a day. But if you then have something else go wrong - block it out for a week until you have a better idea of the issues. If you fix it earlier, great. Repeatedly extending maintenance day by day offers guests no ability to plan ahead. This says it all. Finally, this comment is simply false. You have no basis for your assertions other than your own opinion, and I personally know of two families with plans to visit the gold coast in the next week. I also checked my favourite van park on the coast on nearmap, with the latest pass on 1 August 2020 (almost two weeks after all July school holidays ended) and while there's clearly a number of vacancies - this is definitely not 'nobody' holidaying on the goldcoast (I know for a fact that these are not resident or permanent sites)

Honestly, if we all try to put ourselves in the shoes of Joe Public, rather than Joe Enthusiast - consider this scenario: You've planned a trip \ holiday. (less likely in current times, but QLD residents can still travel). You've got limited time and you're due to arrive on the coast on X date. You dutifully check the maintenance page, and see that Superman is due to open a day before you arrive. Hooray, we will get to ride it. You go the day after you arrive. You arrive at the park to find the fence is still up and the signs out front (if they're still there) tell you it's still closed. boo. The alternative is - you arrive on the GC after checking and seeing that Superman won't be open the entire week you're there. Bummer, oh well, lets have fun - arrive at the park, and... what's this? its opened earlier than planned? WOOHOO! It is far more disappointing to arrive, believing something will be open, and finding it closed, than the other way around. I recall my last trip to Disneyland, hoping to take my wife on Space Mountain as it is my favourite ride in the world and she had never been on it. We'd checked all the maintenance pages and its scheduled maintenance wasn't for months. The day we arrive, we bee-line to the ride, and it's closed. Checking the discussion forums and news that night, we found out OSHA had shut down numerous sites in the park for safety violations (i think it was handrails around work areas) and the shutdown would take more than a week. We were bummed out. The reopening date meant we wouldn't get to ride it at all. Except on our last day in the park - a little after lunchtime, a cast member told us it was currently testing and likely to open that evening. We spent the last 4 hours in the park that day riding it repeatedly. The disappointment we felt when we found out it wouldn't be operating during our trip was huge. It was the 'main event' for us as far as we were concerned. But, knowing the date it was to reopen let us move on - we resigned ourselves to the fact that it wasn't going to happen, instead of repeating the disappointment each day when we arrived to find it was still closed. The fact that it DID reopen before we left was a bonus, and a happy ending to the disappointment.

Sea World Spooky Nights
Has anyone actually looked at what is on offer at this event? A bit underwhelming given most of the unique experiences are upcharges... Here's their list of attractions and experiences: N - Normal experience available during the day U - Upgraded normal experience - normal daytime experience with unique elements for the event F - Free experience to all guests not normally available outside of the event M - Mixed experience - free to wander but requires payment to participate $ - Requires payment to participate (includes food items) (*I realise midway games are a 'normal' daytime experience, however this package is sold as a single price for multiple games and is marketed as an experience) Basically the sea monster invasion is the only 'free' experience that you can't get during the day. I also thought for a moment that only the kids rides were open, but Storm will be open - nothing like a water ride at night, right by the windy ocean!

The roof is DEFINITELY 'like a roof' - and that certainly looks like corrugated roofing, not floorboards, but the crates, the giant rocket, and the fact that the coaster train is several large rockets with seats in it, coming out of the 'factory' - AND given that the road runner animations are fairly simplistic... i'll accept the theme - its probably better themed than many other rides on the coast (green woodchips anyone?)

Sea World Spooky Nights
How do you know it is an equivalent event when the first event hasn't even happened yet? Dreamworld to my knowledge hasn't included these types of events as inclusions in annual passes - so the lower entry ticket may eventuate to be more profitable, since passholders pay extra too. On the flip side, Village includes all the night events in their passes, which cost a bit more, but nowhere near the gate price of those events, but since you've got a bunch of people that will almost certainly attend because its 'no extra cost' you probably want to make a bit more of any non-passholders that want to come along, as well as reduce demand by asking a higher price, right?

Theme Parks Reopening Post COVID-19
6 to 10 if you go by statistical averages. Sources vary, but generally its accepted that the average adult respiratory rate is somewhere between 12-20 breaths per minute. The risk is lower due to the lower exposure time, but there are way too many factors at play to say 'risk is low so keep the rides open'.

I wouldn't be suggesting 14 days - but just like the school where that cleaner worked - closing it until everyone got tested would be the smart move.

Theme Parks Reopening Post COVID-19
I understand that, but being in a theme park, where details are already recorded on entry is a bit different to walking into a restaurant off the street where no prior details are recorded. That does make sense though. Thanks for the good explanation. If the park has an infection, I would hope that the whole park is knocked out rather than trying to argue that the restaurant was the only close contact point.

Theme Parks Reopening Post COVID-19
Just seems a bit ridiculous. if they're going to have an infection in the park and need to trace it, they aren't going to limit it just to the restaurant - they're going to contact everyone in park - nobody has any idea who they stood next to in line, or whatver. the gate records should be more than sufficient.

Don't they use the app \ take down your details at the gate? why the double handle?

Vortex should have been mid-construction this time last year for a December 2019 opening - so this is just routine annual maintenance... lol.

The New Atlantis - Construction Updates
If we're all finished with 'my opinion is righter than your opinion so your opinion is wrong' - my point was, BB was built by local tradespeople based on PTC plans and SW could easily do the same. Rappa's argument that SW wouldn't want to repeat that method was shot down by Rich's point that there isn't much to building a woodie, and it's further confirmed by the fact that we have timber on slab, and tradespeople on site currently building the damn thing. (Last I checked, our borders are still closed to the overseas specialists you all think are necessary for construction to begin). As for the ride experience - the wildcat design was born out in the 1920s. Most of the clones were built in the 80s. You know, back when computers operated in Megahertz, instead of Gigahertz. We've come a long way. Sure, modern woodies are far better designed, engineered and built. You might argue Nostalgia, i'll disagree. Just like a 40 year old gamer remembers fondly the days of the Atari 2600 and Commodore 64, which by today's standards would be called "shit" but 'for its day' were incredible machines. BB was, when built, a great ride. It was poorly maintained, but 'for its day' was a great coaster.

The New Atlantis - Construction Updates
It's odd - your signature block used to display that you were one of the last riders on BB. I've not heard you refer to BB as being 'one of the worst' previously that I can recall. As far as BB goes, there was nothing wrong with the construction or the design. The Coney Island Wildcat design was copied for Wilde Beast and both Grizzly coasters, all three of which still operate today (and i'm sure there's others out there too). What was wrong with BB was the maintenance. I've walked the base of the coaster, and the cat walks, as well as riding enough and walking the exit ramps enough to see the split timbers, and the number of bolts, nuts, washers, and nails that were strewn around the envelope. I'm not saying it was unsafe - I've also watched the chippys walk the track each morning - but there were many band-aid solutions, which, while safe, and cheaper than replacing things, there's a lot of things that should have been replaced near its end of life. It wasn't, which is what lead to the bone shaking ride you got on its final day. Again, that doesn't make it a bad coaster, or make the construction method a poor idea. As stated:

I get your passion, but this point about closing down before because of complaints has been resolved. Each new ride will have to undergo an assessment process to ensure it fits within the criteria set out, but the park is not at risk of closure due to complaints like it was back then. that is not possible due to those court cases, so it needs to be removed from your argument. The 3 year time period for Volare was disappointing, and sadly - despite what others might say - this is likely to be the case for future attractions as the additional studies and assessments needed to ensure it will fit within the criteria outlined by the case precedents will always take longer than a new flat on the gold coast. I'd like to see them stick a compact woody in Maloney's. It is possible to build something that would fit in that space, while still leaving lots of ground space for temporary or permanent flats - so long as the semi trucks can fit through (which is easily enough done). Have a nice space in the middle with some clearance and they can make use of the space for both.

The New Atlantis - Construction Updates
The PTC woodies at Wonderland were entirely constructed by local tradespeople based on plans provided by PTC. I'll assume GG have progressed the track lamination process somewhat since 1984, so it is fair to say that there is probably a higher level of skill required to produce the required track to spec, but the rest of the structure isn't rocket science. Its also quite possible that the track lamination techniques used can be shared (judging by the carpenter jobs advertised recently, that technique would be shared with the park chippy anyway), so while slightly more difficult, its not impossible for foreign skilled workers to provide that instruction remotely to the local specialist tradespeople working on site.
