  1. Site access isn't blocked during opening hours - all of the old goldrush, studios, blue lagoon and any other access point is freely accessible when the park is open, provided the train is either closed or incorporated into the construction crossovers. Crossing pieces over the driveway only needs a lollipop man for the time it takes the crane to cross over. What we need to look at is the fact that the pieces continue to arrive, and be unloaded, but seemingly without any groundworks taking place. I've not seen anyone post photos of groundwork machinery, footerings or collars being moved about... and if they're not doing that... then the assumed 'storage until later' plan appears to be correct... TLDR: whether the park is open or closed, construction wouldn't really be impacted.
  2. The article points out a disparity between the colour and the supposed name. Did we ever get anything other than the trademark registration to point to 'steel taipan' ? is it possible this is the 'gold' coaster, and not the new theme for Cyclone?
  3. This one must be for the inversion... you know, because it's upside down.
  4. ^That was sorely needed. I just hope it stands up to the traffic - Especially since that's a vehicle thoroughfare too.
  5. Not sure why you think anything I said is improbable @Rydah Hi - All of the GC parks do have an issue with upkeep - the newest shiniest thing gets the attention, while last year's news tends to get neglected - And this is evidenced by the state of numerous coasters and slides prior to the repainting works that kicked off late last year - they all weren't suddenly looking tired overnight - they were all slowly tiring over many years.
  6. the key is going to be how it handles the traffic it will get in the future - how quickly it gets destroyed and whether Sea World will have the attention to detail for upkeep, maintenance and eventual respraying. Hopefully its a commercial product designed for large traffic and not designed for suburban residential poolsides...Ocean Parade has been resurfaced at least three times since Claw.
  7. Who needs practical anymore? we'll just fix it in post! The New Atlantis will issue every guest a pair of VR goggles from the now defunct Arkham Asylum and all immersive theming will be delivered digitally. And they won't run out of VR goggles because due to COVID, Atlantis will be limited to the capacity of 2 x Arkham trains.
  8. That's very telling @themagician thanks for posting. Expectations were set high. Like the new kids area, or the splash pad, this is 'really nice westfield'.
  9. Take a good look.... by all accounts that's probably the biggest Trident we're going to 'sea' here...
  10. the 'mid course brake run' doesn't have to be removed, if it's never installed in the first place.... Heck, if you check the blue fire model group in RCDB (https://rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&mo=12376) You'll see that most of the models shown only have 2 trains. Only the megacoaster has more than 3.
  11. a week or so ago there was a picture posted that showed some sort of device fixed to the monorail track near the site. I feel like that may very well be a timelapse camera of some description - I hope so. Unlike rivals, which was very spread out, this as a site will be quite close and therefore easily captured for things like that - especially with the vantage points they have overlooking the site including monorail, storm, castle, etc.
  12. Shrek 4-d required a renovation as a minimum because the entire pre-show animatronic elements were installed, as was the finale animatronic in the speaker near the exit on conclusion of the film (i think it was a tinkerbell style fairy stuck in the speaker) - so it stands to reason that a "renovation" occurred by that logic alone. whether the seats, carpet, or anything else was changed, i couldn't tell you, but the pre and post show elements are proof enough. As for WWF - the 'Rio Bravo' mountain theme is nowhere to be found in the storyline of the Wild West film. The 'old miner' "git out" scenes are likewise unrelated to the film. The pre-show (I never saw it) was reportedly film related but still otherwise unrelated to the ride, and likewise the ghost town, with the indian village, and 'ghost' action scenes have nothing to do with the film either. Where you will find Rio Bravo is in Parque Warner Madrid - The Rio Bravo flume ride, which while it does have it's differences, shares pretty much the same overall layout (with the same scenes in the same order - reverse track turnaround, rail bridge, indian village, ghost town, back into the mountain) - http://www.thethemeparkguy.com/park/parque-warner-madrid/photos (I'm pretty sure the town is even the same - "dodge city" with the same population gag) It's clearly an identical ride in almost every way possible, except Madrid kept the originally intended name, given the film flopped and Madrid opened 3 years after it was released.... Although some theme elements have minor differences (no 'old faithful'... although these days MW's version doesn't have it either...) it is still very much the same ride. I'm sure much of Wild West has been discussed here, but you'll probably find it's more LORE than LAW. Much of the info shared would come from former staff of the park, who were present at the time. It's highly unlikely it would be documented anywhere accessible to the public, and the park isn't likely to confirm it.
  13. Welcome to Parkz my friend. Respectfully Thread derailment is par for the course. Don't be too precious about it... And as you're in the back seat with the rest of us, perhaps leave the moderating up to the mods - since they've commented in this thread in a similar vein to the rest of us, its fairly tacit approval that they're ok with it for now. As for the measurement, unless you want to get a trundlewheel out, you're probably not going to find a more accurate measurement. The park probably won't care to measure it in any more official factual capacity than I have, simply because all the surrounding land is theirs too. I've found Nearmap to be quite accurate pound for pound. You're welcome to use the image as a citation if you wish.
  14. The catchcar platform (the thing with the safety railings at the top of the lift unit) is found on many giant drop units - as seen here on Blue Fall. Some smaller towers didn't have them fitted permanently (Space probe had a separate maintenance basket that could be attached to any of the catchcars). My guess (and I am only guessing) is that the railings on the catchcar platform are probably some OH&S thing as it is a platform at height and has been decreed to require fixed railings. As for the mesh shown over the riders, I assume a 'loose item' protection should something fall from the tower or catchcar. There have been a number of cable snaps over the years on the Intamin drop models (including on Space Probe) and this may also be some form of protection for those sorts of incidents too...
  15. let's hope that that day is a loooooong way off. Demolishing wild west would be a big loss for the park, even though it isn't popular in winter, its the one family level attraction enjoyable for all, with mild thrill and an ability to cool off in summer.
  16. Honestly - building an office tower on property has a lot of issues - they'd be better off determining what functions need to be onsite, and moving the rest into a generic office building in a neighboring business park - Back in the day of envelopes of cash on pay day, your pay office had to be where the workers were - now everything is EFT, your payroll team can be offsite. You can move marketing offsite, human resources and recruitment could be offsite if you needed to use the spaces that they're currently using... As for a multideck carpark - I think they'd planned to do something like that, but they needed their overflow carpark up and running for extra capacity while they did it - and we all know what happened to that plan... The entire Oxenford site is one lot. The issue expanding back towards paradise country is that directly behind WWF you have the water reservoirs mentioned earlier. Apparently West uses one of them for overflow, so moving it isn't really an option, and then you have the studio and support buildings to the side to think about too. If they're not going to use showstage AS a showstage, I think it would be best to remove it and develop that into the next expansion plot, which would tie in well with the fright night maze sheds, and potentially have them used at other times of the year for various things.
  17. They'll build out the carpark before they move the studios. they've proposed it several times before already.
  18. I'm with you on every point bar this one. Our parks aren't six flags or cedar fair. dropping 10s of millions on new attractions every year or so isn't viable long term - especially if the rides are unique or very limited run - like TOT. Being one of only 3 in the world meant there was little demand to keep supporting the ride beyond the current lifetime, which is why Dreamworld closed theirs, and why SFMM raided Coomera for parts. We don't need unique. We need something that will have a lot of support for years to come. The drop tower concept obviously has a lot of industry support, so likely that style of ride will continue - but if the specialised parts associated with a face first drop don't find wider usage elsewhere, Dreamworld may well find themselves in the same situation they are now - having to close several of their flagship attraction (Wipeout, TOT) without a replacement lined up. I'm all for the record breakers, so long as its just a bigger version of a standard ride, so parts, support, maintenance and so on will be around long enough for them to get their return on investment.
  19. Fair enough. Now that we're all done overanalysing my throwaway sarcastic and tongue in cheek comment, i'm off to count my chickens. They're still eggs you see. That's why i'm counting them now. Because I already know.
  20. About as much as you 'take everything totally literal' streak... It's true though - we'd all have sworn blue in the face that a person would be an idiot for suggesting there was no e-stop on TRRR. I think in the aftermath of the incident the discussions here surrounded how they 'must not have pressed it' rather than 'there wasn't one' until more info started to come out. Yes, more likely, a new ride from a major manufacturer will have it - but to say 'definitely' before it's built, without knowing who the manufacturer is, where its come from, what park it goes into - theres a lot of 'ifs' there to confidently say 'it will definitely have it' when for all we know the wiring on SkyVoyager wasn't even up to code when it arrived.
  21. I'm saying someone suggested the park needed three full circuit coasters. Tbone said they already had 3, I gave my reasons for why they don't yet have 3. And until it's built, anything can happen to this new coaster... Nothing about a future attraction, so a tangent off topic as usual, and something i'd think you'd be used to. Flowrider. Wipeout with a pool, water jets and themed to a wave. Claw with a sandy beach theme. Now that wipeout is gone a ride that you (at first) could get wet on, yes, i think they do need a water ride in there. Flowrider isn't enough, and the claw is tentative at best.
  22. Maybe, you shouldn't have been on Parkz at 11:30 at night on a school night.
  23. Honestly they need to eat the cost, even if it isn't worth it. They need to hire-on some labour hire staff who are dedicated to cleaning and sanitising, especially the ride vehicles. They need to eat the fact that they are not going to be profitable on day one. But, they need to open, even at a loss in the short term, in order to demonstrate that they can be open, that they are taking the appropriate precautions. A few media pieces on the news about the parks reopening showing all the cleaning and sanitising. Get Clark on talking about what they're doing to keep people safe. Give people confidence that they can return safely. If their plan is to be back to normal capacity by September, they need to get the doors open now so that those who are looking for somewhere to holiday in the warmer months know its an option. Although we talk about people planning their next years holidays in advance, a lot of those plans are scuttled - all those who had planned to go overseas may look more locally and put off the overseas trip for another year - so if our domestic markets can reopen, put on a show and prove they can do it safely, it will pay off in the long term... And it's self interest. If the buy out deal we saw recently is correct - they need to have the parks open prior to the share deal to make a premium on the share price - so even if they don't make a profit, reopening the parks is beneficial to shareholders and to village... but they have to do it right, or there is no point.
