Quick Dreamworld Photo Update - 3rd August, 2018
Indeed I have - i mentioned this on the forums last week when we were discussing how recently the Log Ride signage had been removed, and I mentioned i'd been in the park on the 23rd of Feb - the day before I went with @Jdude95 to the Brisbane Magistrates Court to live report the inquest findings. Keep up @MickeyD! Ok - Magician points out a lot of good things that have happened in the parks, but given he bumped an 18 month old thread to do so, I figured he was directly referencing the things that @Slick had mentioned. Many of the eyesores remain. Before: After (taken February 2020) Unfortunately, I'm not really one for photo trip reports. I also don't see the point in taking photos of things that haven't changed. So I can't really refute each and everyone of @Slick's photos that were taken more than 18 months ago. But I DO visit regularly since getting a pass again at Christmas. Probably 5-6 times since December? SO rather than quote each pic, here's a breakdown of Slick's post 18 months on in dot-point form: Main entrance facade - looks like fucking garbage. Its a great first impression. White facadeland is gone, mainly because the ride is open. no great surprises there. Now that the sky voyager facade is complete, and the goldrush signage removed, we instead have a tight pinch point where a ride exit feeds onto a narrow street that is also intended as a thoroughfare to another ride, which is barely open, so why bother, right? The next 4 pics were of cinema\skyvoyager construction, rather than a particular fault or issue. Charging station, featuring now closed attractions that don't belong. There are STILL a literal fuck-tonne of references and promo and marketing pictures around the park (the kodak shop wall, the height measure up sticks around the park, various walls - including the jingeri\welcome gate beside the main entrance as shown in the pics above Next up, Hollywood House. I guess, since they bulldozed it last week, we can technically say this has been 'resolved' - but only just, and it took 18 months to 'resolve' it Then we have the 'half removed walkways' over rocky hollow. they remain 'half removed' on my last visit. Giant Drop still has 'rustic theming' disintegrating in the elements. Posts from abandoned walkways (see half removed walkways above) remain. Crappy, poorly maintained kopper log retaining walls littered with conduits, and covered in dead leaves that haven't been cleaned up in milennia - yep, still there. Fencing with 'green leafy facade' vinyl hung on it to hide the back of house BB studios area - still there. Unkempt and hazardous tree matter surrounding the train shed - still there. Ooooh! there's something that has changed - the fencing surrounding the TRRR site. Previously, it had a nice, well constructed, completely un-see-through red metal fence! Now it has temporary, see-through, covered slightly with printed marketing wrap but still totally see-through-able material, so now you can see the weeds, dirt, random piles of junk and garbage left to sit where they fell. I never thought i'd say bring back the red fence! Then we're onto super duper silver lining stuff like Claw reopened looking good, trolls area open and looking good I'm sorry, but practically every single issue raised by Slick in his original post is still as yet unresolved, and looks exactly the same. Have they taken mad steps to fix other stuff? Of course. Is it great that MovieWorld's most passionate leader is now employed by Dreamworld and is kicking goals left right and fucking centre? Fucking Hell yes! But to bump THIS PARTICULAR thread, and say SO MUCH of what was pointed out 18 months ago has been resolved, when almost NONE of it has - is bullshit. Kudos to Dreamworld for: WWW park wide refurb (inside and out) "for the most part" Facade repaints on Main Street "which they started recently" Giant Drop exterior refurb and additional path to cut out the stairs and ramp "even though there was already a path there that they could use" Refresh of the path between Tiger Island and ABC Kids "because the prior plain brick tunnel gives you such 'getting mugged' vibes that this is something they probably should have done way back when the tunnel was first constructed, and let's be honest, they painted a fucking tiger on the wall - they didn't exactly refresh the entire path' Refurb of path between Rocky Hollow and Corroboree 'i'm not sure exactly when the rainbow serpent was installed, but i'm not sure it was before or after this thread started. I'll give you this one though, on the off chance the rainbow serpent actually went in in the last 18 months. ' I am excited for what is to come for Dreamworld, and its clear that they're taking on some large refresh projects to spruce the park up, but unfortunately the bright coat of paint only serves to be a HARSHER contrast with the derelict and rotting remains in other areas. As a first impression, the main entrance building needs a total refurbishment. strip the crappy years of conduit out, hide the air con units better. get rid of the moving head light-and-dome combos that you never use. bring that building back to A1 condition. This park was built to be Australia's Disneyland - so let's just walk through the park and think about sight lines. back of house areas. things that ruin the magic. How can we fix some of these? The failed ampitheatre, and the failed adventure river are both eyesores. do something to improve the visual. the trip around behind blue lagoon on the train is pointless except for the grade the train requires to climb the hill. even a nice forest planting in this area, tidied up, with a spiel of the native trees, or animals, or hell - built a diorama. i don't care. do something with it so it doesn't constantly take you for a trip of 'what used to be, the ride'. i've had enough ranting. maybe i'll come back later for some more.

Travel tips? Six Flags Magic Mountain

Travel tips? Six Flags Magic Mountain
I actually did this not too long ago, but I think it was shot a while back - it didn't even have Lex Luthor or Full Throttle, so it must have been a while ago...

Quoted for truth. Are you for real? The red fences are gone, the white fences are gone, Sky Voyager is finally open, Trolls is closed, but all the other things... what has actually been resolved? The main entrance facade is still garbage, as is the old pathways near rocky hollow. the train pathway is still littered with crap, and the temporary fencing that surrounds the old BB studios area... What HAS actually been resolved?

Travel tips? Six Flags Magic Mountain
Legit, my wedding vows included a line to the effect of 'i will never use the single rider line again'. So, not always an option.... 🤣

Travel tips? Six Flags Magic Mountain
Thats a good point - strategies differ depending on if you're travelling solo or with a group. Single rider is fine when you're by yourself, but when you want to ride with your group, its not an option.

Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway
What do you mean? I've already mentioned that - at least after the first ride, i'm usually looking anywhere but where they're making me look, to try and see how things are done, or look behind the magic. Its just the person I am - I want to know how the magician does the trick.

Travel tips? Six Flags Magic Mountain
Yep, I think this is going to be an entire thread of the exact same message. If you only have one day, buy the flash pass. Allow time to collect it, and get in early - the park has metal detectors \ bag search and then ticket gates to get through to get into the park proper, so allow extra time for that. Don't aim to arrive 10 minutes before gates open and expect to be riding 20 minutes later. Once inside, getting the flash pass (at least when I got it last) requires you to go into a building and watch a stupid instructional video on how to operate it, before joining the queue to pay \ show your online payment receipt and get the pass. it may have changed but it was stupid inefficient last time i got it. Study the park map. For the most part, the park circles the mountain, with a couple of paths over it. Work out your strategy on what you want to do first, and when. Use the flash pass wisely - think about the direction you're heading, and what popular rides you're heading for. book those, so the time is up by the time you reach it. Have the list of must-dos mapped out, cross them off, check it often. I've been several times and have still to this day never been on jet streams or tidal wave. Avoid backtracking. It IS a FUCKING MOUNTAIN. If you get to apocalypse and your X2 or Colossus flash pass time is ready, its a long, steep walk. try to start at one side, and work your way around, instead of criss-crossing the park. I made this mistake and had to leave Apocalypse to make my X2 time, and then never ended up going back to it. In addition to your must-do list, look at what they have that you don't mind missing. You may have to make some difficult choices if you're running out of time, and if you've given some thought to what you don't necessarily 'need' to ride it can help as well - for example - Lex Luthor's Drop of Doom went down due to high wind just as our flash pass was ready for it... rather than come back 2 hours later when it reopened (and we were on the other side of the park) we decided we were ok to skip it, since we had Giant Drop. ...and on that, in case I haven't mentioned it yet, the park is half built on a fucking mountain. it gets high winds at times, and sometimes bad weather. keep an eye on the forecast, and try to knock off things that will close in high winds or inclement weather early if they're on your must-do list.

Sea World Train
I'll take early-to-mid 90's Sea World for mine (94-95)- pre-dolphin cove, pre-shark bay. When the dolphins and sea lions performed in the same arena, the ski show ran, the waterpark was a place to chill out and relax the afternoon away, when the Pirate ship loomed at the end of the lake, when Corkscrew's white loops dominated the skyline. When they served drinks with those shitty paper straws but it was a good reason to have them, even though they didn't last the whole cup. When vikings ran the long way, and when Bermuda was looking its freshest. When missing the monorail was ok because the next one would arrive in a few moments, when the train chugged around for a nice way to see the broadwater and relax in the breeze, and when the skyway would stop mid-way for the best view of the gold coast you've ever had. They had less 'attractions' back then - especially the animal exhibits and such (sharks, polar bears, penguins, but they also used the penguin tank for a shark show too) but you could easily spend the whole day there. Riding the train, monorail, skyway, and lazing by the pool or riding the slides at the waterpark really filled the day. A sum total of about 25 minutes is spent looking at Polar Bears, Penguins, Jellyfish, Sharks etc... like, don't get me wrong, but they've taken away crowd-soaking, time consuming, relaxing attractions, put in mild thrills and 5 minute (if that) exhibits, and there isn't any substance there that keeps you occupied long enough to be willing to spend the day (*unless, that is, you're spending the time in the queues, because its busy, their operations are shit, and there are few attractions present to soak up the people.).... I wonder when @joz's favourite Sea World Era was...

Luna Park Sydney's expansion
Why locate them, unless you're doing works in the area that require you to know where they are? It does indicate SOMETHING is happening.

Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway
but that's what i'm saying - rotate the car away, but unless the car is enclosed, that doesn't stop the immersion being ruined by a person who glances (or stares) over their shoulder at the previous scenes. Go and ride Big Red Car - Australia's premier trackless dark ride. Since all of the scene doors were disabled, presumably because of the lack of emergency exits in each show scene in the event of a power failure, one can see, and hear the scenes before, and after one's current position well before and after one's car has been in that room. Immersion is totally ruined.

Ardent Leisure share price drops
There's nothing really sudden that seems to have happened, the volume on the inquest findings (the marked point is the trading day before the inquest findings were handed down) was up a lot on the week prior, and you can see that volume has continued. Its possible some investors held onto their shares for a little while to see if the stocks would recover, and when they've continued to tumble, it has encouraged more to offload their shares. Nothing much else has hit the news since the findings, just echo stories and sub stories like the AWU banging their drum.

Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway
Can you do a Flying Pirouette? Not sure about the 'everyone is looking' part. I know for me, especially if i've been on it once already, i'm usually looking anywhere i'm not facing to see how things are done, or what they don't want me to see. And those benefits are much more tightly realised in an omnimover system like haunted mansion, because in addition to facing you the way they want, the omnimover shell generally hides the 'undesirable' areas from view (unless you deliberately try to look around them) I still think M&MRR looks great, and I agree.... trackless drive systems like this are definitely amazing.

The New Atlantis - Construction Updates
You know, it looks like a fountain, but ultimately when its finished, it's just going to be a garden bed.

Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway
Perhaps a light plussing of some key areas in small world, but i do hope they don't just try to make it into projection:the ride. the chintzy old school nature of the ride is part of its charm. Like when they introduced disney characters to the ride there was uproar, but when everyone saw how tasteful it was, with characters themed to the lands they suited, it was subtle. May the painted walls of the show building long live on!
