  1. I'm not sure I understand this point. The attraction worked the same way as a lazy river - with slippery tiled surfaces on the wall, as opposed to the sandpapered-style of Calypso. Speed wasn't too much faster, and unlike Calypso - everyone was moving in the same constant direction and speed. It was also easier to observe for the operator, as opposed to Calypso which has several spots one can muck about without the staff paying too much attention. It was deep enough that a fall from the tube wouldn't hurt, but shallow enough that nobody could really 'horseplay' as such. Riders were to remain seated throughout the ride and the operator would turn off the flow immediately if there were any issues, with only residual motion after that point. I really don't see any particular injury risk here at all, and the video above should also show that. For those who are struggling to put the two types of ride together - about centre of shot for most of the video is a darkened underwater almost-heart-shape. this is one of the several spas, covered over.
  2. Yeah! Just like the one up the road building an ampitheatre lazy river shaded seating area launched coaster 6 waterslide tower
  3. On the contrary, when we go with a group, we usually set up camp near the whirlpool, and agree to meet back there at certain times. While waiting for the rest of our group, a dip in the spas is a great way to stay cool and keep the littler kids amused. It is also a great escape for those with sensory issues as it is much quieter. I've only ever experienced Whirlpool in its summer incarnation once (for those unaware, the spas are covered up, and the whole area flooded to create a massive whirlpool a little like a mini lazy river, but a bit faster) - but I believe they've removed most of the functionality of that, which is why it remains as spas year-round now. Its a shame they stopped doing the conversion, as on the day I saw it converted, it carried a decent queue.
  4. I'm sure it would have been enjoyable for you though.
  5. You're right. I certainly can't visualise that perhaps the serpent\kraken\leviathan\creature could be the track itself, with the car a ship\boat carrying passengers through treacherous waters suddenly being attacked by the creature... A ship shaped train has no place on a ride themed to a sea serpent or a kraken Or a leviathan (these are all the first image results on google for 'sea serpent attack' 'kraken attack' and 'leviathan attack')
  6. Getting the signage down before the peak holiday season helps to forget that it is there, rather than have people, who don't know the ride has closed for good, turn up expecting to ride.
  7. A maybe from him literally means 'i don't really know, but if i say something that teases it, you can't blame me if it isn't true'
  8. And so ends today's demonstration of thinking first, posting second.

  10. As soon as I read the first post, this was my immediate reaction "Rake World on the Gold Coast"
  11. But they had already changed the name after the Ettamogah case eventuated. It was simply called "The Pub", so the change to Banana Bender wasn't as a result of the court case, as that was long since done and dusted.
  12. The issue is when it's 4-or-nothing, you're going to have problems. groups of 3 will have to wait for singles which aren't as common, or two groups of three will have to split with a group of 2.... (3+1 2+2)... its very complicated, and - if this were a manufacturer ride requirement, I can't see a lot of parks installing this type in the future, as its incredibly difficult to manage.
  13. I'm fairly certain west has always had ops stationed at those spots ( @Spotty would be a good one to answer that) - perhaps they've just renovated the booths?
  14. I'm pretty certain its a printed flat. They were probably too scared to go with 3D brick panels after the shambles that was the doomsday store. Its a shame.... I know of a guy who has some panels he isn't using...
  15. I too find that very annoying. I checked my 15 year old profile and found the email address i'd signed up with was one i'd long since stopped using. I updated it, and I guess we shall find out next time my membership expires...
  16. ...Yeah, but since its past the shop, and isn't obviously an access point until you have walked past it, most people wanting to get to doomsday will be forced through the shop when the 'park gates' are shut. It was stupid all around, and the only thing that makes sense is to open the gates - which then starves the shop of visitation. the classic 'exit through the gift shop' was done so well at Green Lantern and Wild West Falls (although it failed at Superman for obvious reasons) the smartest thing would have been to simply exit the ride through the shop. period.
  17. Thanks. I knew the discussion had come up before, and when the BB house burnt down, the confirmation it wasn't "on DW land" threw me a curve. I couldn't remember the exact detail, but thanks for clarifying. Since they can't sell it, they would do well to make use of it with a huge out-and-back layout. Here's hoping Leviathan shows the Aus public that a woodie isn't 'old and busted' and is instead 'new hotness', and perhaps DW will make use of the unused land that way, balancing the park off against Ocean Parade
  18. I doubt there'll be any split on the stairs. All i meant by 'switchbacks' was simply a dividing rail, perhaps a metre long, between the slides, or perhaps some painted lines on the ground to indicate which 'queue' was for which slide. As body slides, (and given the length of them) the throughput should be pretty good, and the stairs punishing enough that the queues should manage themselves pretty well, with people more likely choosing to queue for whichever one has the shortest line. I can't see any other way they'd manage it.
  19. Yeah but the wonderland plaza was huge, and didn't impede flow - there were large pathways that went straight through, with merch on either side. The doomsday shop is tiny, with sharp turn angles through the store, and many places only one person could fit through at a time (especially with a stroller). It just becomes an annoyance.
  20. Well that land map is confusing. Didn't they sell all that land on the north side of blue lagoon?
  21. I really don't understand the logic for that. Was it to encourage people to walk past all the interactive elements?
  22. Probably because you steal the imagery and reupload it with your own brand watermarked on it.
  23. I agree its a great concept, but i can't rave about dough bros. The pizza on display behind glass has (at least every time i've seen it) had numerous flies buzzing around \ landing on them. It certainly destroyed my appetite for it. I settled for a shitty burger which, while it probably had just as much of an insect issue, was out of sight, and therefore, out of mind.
  24. A solid VRTP critique for the attention of @CaptainLazerGuns
  25. whoever is in charge of their social needs to work on their puns. Wanna taco 'bout (wanna talk about), rather than wanna taco about... (wanna talk a about) Good on them for bringing in something different - and hopefully they do succeed with it. I used to love the Old El Paso outlet at Wonderland - they just have to make sure they stop the corn chip\shells from going stale.
