  1. If they decide they want one of these styles on a permanent basis, i'd rather they purchased a park model direct from the manufacturer. Nothing against the travelling version or the current showman who owns it - but i'd prefer sea world didn't stray into 'ekka' territory, so to speak. it has a movie, and you sit in a seat to watch it. Also, The Roxy is similar. So is Event Cinemas. And your loungeroom. All the SkyVoyagers!
  2. Since most of their long term, big name personalities have announced withdrawal or retirement - could you call it an upgrade?
  3. *scoff* would have been better at Australia Zoo. They already have the John Oliver Koala Chlamydia Ward, and plenty of native wildlife. Plus their track record on opening things, keeping them open, and the chances of them staying open are 1000.34% more likely. Well, I can't argue with this, they have made a series of big announcements:
  4. Well, the right-wing politicians in NSW were re-elected - so they don't need an upgrade right now. In federal government, the Morrison government could do with an upgrade though, judging by opinion polls...
  5. Surprise surprise - i disagree. The park needs to stop telling people what their plan is, and put their money where their mouth is. reopen eureka mine ride wipeout has 10 more years adventure river with wildlife right beside you VR on MDMC Sky Voyager opens this summer. What do all of these things have in common? Stop fucking talking about it and JUST START DOING IT.
  6. There's some decent concepts in there... just a couple things: Most of the actual theme park section still plays a big part in Dreamworld's history - wiping it clean isn't exactly recognising the park's history. Demolishing much of the existing park is costly, and ultimately, not likely to be something any theme park operator would do. If they're "wiping the theme park clean" it means they're building a housing estate. WWW is extremely under-developed. It has always suffered from being the "little kid" on campus. WNW's slogan "biggest and best" still shits all over it. Ultimately, while their slides are more modern overall, the park was never proposed to remain in "stage one" state this long - even with a couple of additions. WWW still needs love. Don't be a hater. All things that have been said already, and in my opinion, very sensible short term ideas. I'm not sure how many flumes i've ridden that have seatbelts though...? All good ideas, although I do feel the Tbolt site should be utilised for a WWW expansion - perhaps, with appropriate envelope management, one could run a suitable coaster over-top of the lazy river in a way you could guarantee the envelope separation, but still having that roaring closeness that would up the thrill factor for both attractions...? As for Dreamworks - even if you take ToT out, Dreamworks is landlocked along that boundary. KFP land, all the way to Escape from Madagascar and the stage. You could direct traffic through Po's garden - but its a tight corridor, and then you'd have to have an entirely new dreamworks theme as it'd clearly be separated from the rest of that area. If a new slide tower replaces HWSW, and that completes WWW, you might as well rip it all out on day one. I'll assume you mean completed "for now" but that's still more than 3 years away, and the park has languished for a decade already. I'm not a big fan of the HTTYD theme, and i think it's been discussed on Parkz before that it possibly wouldn't stand the test of time. I think "Rebuilding gold rush" is a mistake, and will only serve to conjure memories of the incident. Likewise, installing a smiler clone would give the media a field day drawing comparisons between this installation and the original, and the accident that occurred. Although the investigation proved the ride systems weren't faulty, the headline "killer theme park installs new ride with history of amputations" isn't a good headline.
  7. I woodn't have a clue what they're doing. I hope they do remove vikings soon though. repurpose the stationhouse into something useful and remove the rest of the track, or just level the entire area (with obvious care taken not to impact storm or Jet Rescue. Personally I think it'd be a nice tribute if they kept the stationhouse and somehow transformed it into something reminiscent of Vikings (the ride or the people, it doesn't matter). A bit of external theming - maybe a coffee house, merch store...?
  8. That explains a lot.
  9. You should know by now Skeet, that he lives in his own world. So that negative perception is LITERALLY the perception of the ENTIRE WORLD in which he lives...
  10. The difference of course being is that we know Village have usage rights to that land as part of the sale agreement. You can't say the same for Dreamworld...
  11. If it is, that ramp will be used in the media call, but will never be seen in the actual show.
  12. What baffles me more than those saying 'close it for a bit' is the idea to get rid of things like the 'disney style' entrance. For better or worse, things like that ARE dreamworld. If you take too much away, the park loses it's identity, and that isn't a good thing for the thousands who hold nostalgia for the park. Renaming it is similarly fraught with danger. If it is both completely reinvented inside, and completely renamed outside - is it even the same park? Would it have been better to start with a greenfields property so you don't inherit all the problems the existing park has (and the history?) No. If you're buying this place, you're keeping it substantially the same. You might be fixing a few thigns up, putting a few new rides in, but you're not wiping the board clean. You're not getting rid of the native animals that draw busloads. You're not getting rid of the most modern (ick) waterpark on the coast 'just because'. And saying something should be "well themed" without defining the what, or the how is laughable - even Disney fell short of 'great theme' occasionally, when money was tight. That's like me saying my new car should be 'well painted'. Define it, or it means nothing. I don't hate the idea of closing it for a bit. Perhaps even moving the park to a seasonal trade for a while, opening for holidays, and maybe weekends, until they improve the bottom line. Sure, there's some full time staff there that may not be able to keep their jobs as a result, but this is a business, and if that move is best for the business, then that's an unfortunate, but necessary side effect.
  13. Yeah you were only like two weeks late buddy.
  14. what does this have to do with Cosentino?
  15. See, even though I know that once you understand the basics, each ride's operation really does only take a day or two to understand (it does of course take a bit longer to master) - but publicly, saying "he only received one day's training" will shock and horrify Joe Public. As for not feeling comfortable, and being given more training - I wonder how much longer that would have gone on before they decided "this guy isn't gonna cut it - let's let him go and find someone who knows what they're doing" that could, in itself, be an indication of a safety issue.
  16. but it could contain sharks! ..or River Rats... from Bay City...
  17. It'd be a pretty shit commute - but maybe the Sea World Ferry can run another service from the island to the mainland?
  18. What else do we think they're gonna do for the 2018 season?
  19. @Habitat Waterford? (ROFL)
  20. Nah. not black enough.
  21. No, but this is just further evidence that the RTO process should not be held up as the SOLE proof of competency.
  22. Quite the contrary. I know an organisation that has their own RTO to deliver competency based training. The assessments are a joke. Participants are assessed, and if not competent, they are given the opportunity to re-attempt the assessment after receiving additional instruction. I find many can go away, get some one-on-one, and come back and do it perfectly - they're just copying what they've been shown. It doesn't demonstrate competency, or retention. Especially when the participants are asked to demonstrate their knowledge several weeks later, and can't. For me, giving ride operators a piece of 'nationally accredited' paper that says they know what they're doing doesn't get past the fundamental issues at play at the park - their training and procedures should have already been adequate (and they obviously weren't), and there's no nationally recognised package on ASQA's books that teaches you how (for example) to operate a gyro swing properly. Or any other amusement device for that matter. Not specifically anyway. There might be general learnings, but as each ride is unique, you can't cookie cut the process. Staff at dreamworld (and not the RTO) will still be responsible for the front-line teachings of how to actually operate each ride... which means this 'academy' does nothing to demonstrate whether ride operators are adequately trained to do their jobs properly. This changes nothing.
