  1. I just realised this post moved onto the next page, and may now be taken woefully out of context!!!q
  2. But.... they were dangling!... DANGLING I TELL YOU!
  3. ^so long as it is not at the expense of more sizeable attractions, i'm sure everyone would agree with that. The park needs more 'movie' in it's world... But, on the same token, I don't want them to cheap out and say - only install a new ride every 5 years because they can fill the other four with movie props that were already paid for at the box office.
  4. Sarcastic me wants to say its amazing that you can put prices up in a year where you aren't introducing any significant attractions, on the proviso that you haven't killed anyone recently.
  5. TBF, Kids are all back at school now though, so the IP could belong to the school daycare nursery..
  6. I'm surprised nobody has pointed out the biggest tragedy of this entire change - the loss of the batmobile!
  7. You shouldn't say that. it's bullying you know.
  8. This is, however, flip-sided by the fact that Green-room queues on the stairwell - exposed and shivering up high in the air, with minimal shelter from wind and sun, whereas Tornado's main queue is on the ground, screened from wind, and with shadesails covering most of the queue, while you wait for a raft. The stair climb is then pretty quick, albeit lugging a raft. Additionally, the green-room stairs are shared. Although the original design of the tower had two stairwells for the two slides on the tower (super-tubes is the other), the addition of Wedgie divided the stairs into a 'yellow' and 'green' side. Unfortunately this doesn't always work, and those wanting to ride Wedgie are sometimes prevented from reaching the slide by groups waiting for Green Room. This strategy was clearly adopted for Wet N Wild Sydney.
  9. I have a distinct memory of riding Tornado in September 2004 - but apparently my memory is wrong, as the Wiki says it opened in September 2006. This is only about 3 months before the Green Room opened in White Water World (WWW opened in December 2006) - and that just doesn't seem right - but according to the forums it is... I just felt like the Tornado was so much older than all the others, and kinda felt this explained why it didn't have a conveyor when all the others did. I realise Mammoth had a conveyor several years before the Tornado arrived, but being the mammoth are such a large raft, it wasn't really possible to carry them. Who knows? Maybe WWW already had their order in, and ProSlide couldn't deliver another conveyor, so WnW's race to market before WWW opened meant they had to forgo the conveyor? Realistically though, the design of the WnW Tornado probably couldn't accommodate a conveyor - the enclosed section is laid out differently to Green Room, and I don't think you'd get one in. Who made that decision or why, no idea - but there it is. I've seen two kids carry the cloverleaf up the stairs. it IS a pain in the arse, but its not overly heavy - just bulky.
  10. I was pointing out the distance from "perth" to the park. It's 51.9km between the centre of Perth and Outback Splash. It's 54.9km between the centre of brisbane and Dreamworld (both measured by road on google). I was noting how laughable it would be that anyone would consider Dreamworld to be "in brisbane", yet Outback Splash is considered to be 'in perth' ...and the fact that the thread started before the construction of the water fortress, and since construction is now over, the construction thread should be closed. Someone should probably create a new thread and call it 'outback splash - 2019 general updates and maintenance and construction and anything else i can't be bothered putting into another thread because its Perth and we're special in Perth and if you disagree you're a bully.
  11. its still unrelated and misleading. 'general updates' - and when its time to find something that someone said about that thing we talked about three years ago, we've got mountains of photos and posts and shit to wade through (including this discussion) to try and find it, instead of just searching for "tim's trip report January 2019" We now have an 'updates' or 'maintenance' thread for "2019" for 4-5 different parks. Fuuuuuuu.....
  12. I am pretty certain most of the lanterns (and the stone lions) came from the lethal chinatown originally - its probably fair to say that if it never existed, we'd never have seen them do anything for the period. It was always just a case of 'hey, we've got this shit lying around, we could put it out there and look like we're embracing culture!
  13. Not really saving much on overtime then, and you're not getting much done in 4 or so hours when you include time to lockout, secure and access and then clear the envelope to permit operation each day. If you're going to try and do it outside of normal hours, do it at night. Start at park close, and work a shift, and that way if things go wrong, its possible to clear the park before open and get things back up and running.
  14. ^too short a window - with no breathing room for error. If one trade is delayed exiting, the ride can be down all day. Not to mention - would maintenance be able to do their morning inspections while there are people working within the envelope?
  15. I do recall reading that. Then promptly forgot about it, and clearly everyone else here has too.
  16. *yawn* - no doubt the red paper lanterns will make an appearance too. I realise it's expensive, and TBH its impressive the park themes up for CNY at all - but I saw the thread title, and I immediately conjured an exact image of what this would look like. I do wish they'd change it up just a bit each year (besides the obvious "year of the..." changes.)
  17. Awwww.... are you jealous?
  18. Anything that enters the Windsor Junkyard, never comes out. The pricetag given for the sign is a prohibitive figure to put you off wanting to buy it. If you pulled out the cash, he'd find another reason to not sell it, or up his price again. It is a pointless exercise trying to negotiate with that guy... unless you have a lawyer and legal proof of ownership.
  19. Scaffold looks like they're filming the next series of Ninja Warrior there. As for 'water park for perth' - this is a perth waterpark like dreamworld is a brisbane theme park.
  20. @Levithian - unfortunately a partially closed door, with a curtain pulled across, is a fairly universal sign for "this isn't an entrance for the public - our staff \ workers are using this door, so we keep it open, but you aren't supposed to come in here, which is why the curtain is pulled across. I used to work retail, and it was common to drop roller shutters across the doorway, to about head height, to allow existing customers to exit, whilst serving as a barrier to new customers entering. Whilst the curtain and roller door don't prevent anyone, its a fairly clear signal of 'don't come in here', and in all seriousness - a simple A-frame (which we know VRTP love) that says 'this way to the Aquaman Exhibition' with an arrow, or even "Aquaman Exhibition - OPEN".... it really is something very simple that would help prevent confusion in a place where guests check their brains at the door. Just because you can figure it out - doesn't mean the lowest common denominator can...
  21. I understand the weather issues, but I just don't understand this as a move. Like - could we do Christmas in March when it isn't so hot? Could we do Easter in November, since the park season ends a week after Easter this year - so we can get full use out of our rabbit costumes? #wait - maybe thats the reason for it - do it in the off season, pick up all your supplies from the clearance racks? #justdoesn'tmakesensetome
  22. Everyone crapping on about how the ride has been delayed by what is currently little more than a month... and i'm starting to realise just how pathetic and whiny enthusiasts can be. It's being portrayed like this never happens, and the delays are solely because Dreamworld is a park in the toilet. Newsflash - successful parks have delays too - Superman, The Escape (SFMM) was scheduled to open June 1, 1996, but didn't open until almost 10 months later on March 15, 1997. Dollywood's lightning rod was supposed to open March 15th, 2016, but didn't open (officially) until June 13, 2016 (it had some technical rehearsals prior to the official opening, but was frequently up and down), and then, one week after the official opening - on June 20, 2016 - the park announced it would be closed while a recalled part was ordered and replaced. On 29 June, 2016 - it again reopened to technical rehearsals before finally being announced as 'open' on September 5, 2016. For a ride everyone pegged as a boxing day open, we're only just now getting to be a month overdue. I think it'd make a great article on the delay, what could be causing it, and a history of other big ride delays (like the ones above) to show that this isn't all that uncommon... whaddya think @Richard... or @Slick?
