  1. I was going to say the same thing - that perhaps they've chosen to register a couple before finally deciding on one, however - The new name was lodged on thursday. If it isn't because of the Parkz article, its a pretty big damn coincidence!
  2. The final line is the important one - planning officials are in talks for future operations...
  3. ^Precisely. As we saw with the Kraken construction (and naturally one can assume the alpine slide also) the available land they have to the rear of the park seems to have quite a slope to it. The gokart track would be relatively flat, and its the best bet in terms of wavepool space without significant earth levelling. Keep the slopes for slides to use the natural elevations... similar to Jamberoo (Jamberoo's wavepool was also built on about the flattest section of land in the park)
  4. It's gotta be because the whiplash bar is causing too many injuries...
  5. Pretty sure everyone said that about Sea Viper too. I'm inclined to agree here. This corner of ocean parade is really terrible. The entrance to the coaster is down a ramp you almost don't see until you're directly in front of it, thanks to the Brock building. It is not the "Grand entrance" you expect a full size coaster, and clearly a signature of the park seen from the highway, to have. WWW needs some space to expand - the former thunderbolt site is clearly already earmarked for some development, but the lazy river is likely to take up a lot of that space, leaving the park again landlocked for further development. We all know waterpark attractions are much cheaper to build, and utilising the HWSW space for additional slides would really bring WWW to the front of 'waterparks' on the gold coast. WnW is screaming for a new attraction, and WWW would nail them to the wall if they brought some new slide towers to that space. It would also allow them to better present the land transition from Ocean Parade to WWW, as the current gate is woeful.
  6. Very good points @Boyden Hingston-Muir - however that includes newer members respecting those that have been here and discussed those topics already. Its pretty much an expectation of any forum - particularly one that has run as long as this one, that newer members would search for existing topics before posting the same thing again. We (speaking as a member of this community, not a leader) don't want to dissuade newer members from posting, but in order to grow our hobby, and not push people away, we also need to be mindful that (if i can use a television analogy) nobody wants to watch re-runs over and over... and if the forums become a regurgitation of topics - it becomes tiresome for regular contributors who tend to fade into the background. But it's not. Straight out of the guidelines: In a conversation, a newcomer to the conversation can ask questions to 'get up to speed' - that's because the conversation doesn't have a stenographer taking notes of what is said. In a forum, those conversations are recorded - meaning that newcomers can absolutely catch up on previously discussed topics without having to interrupt the current flow of conversation.
  7. You think so? They're sitting on about 39 acres \ 16 hectares. 7.5 acres \ 3 hectares of land is up behind the wavepool \ gravity wave \ kraken \ alpine slide. That's almost 20% of their land. (In comparison, the wavepool, which is one of the largest single attractions water parks will build, takes up about 1.6 acres \ 0.6ha) Then, when you move on to look at the rest of the park... The alpine slide takes up about 4.5acres \ 1.8ha. Its a huge tract of land, that actually occupies very little of it. Alpine slides are awesome fun, but their capacity sucks. Maybe they can build things around it? There's plenty of opportunity to install waterslide supports, or other 'overhead' attractions, but otherwise, its a huge part of the park that could really be used in many more interesting ways. Right inside the front entrance - theres a huge open grassed area, and a lot of picnic shelters (i assume) which is ripe for the next step up into proper park status (i remember when Jamberoo had a lot of these too). The park's maintenance and back of house area, along with the 'non-overflow-parking' area at the front also measures about 4.5 acres. This area could be redesigned to provide access to back of house, maintenance etc, whilst utilising space closest to the park boundaries for in-park accessible area. When you consider that between the Alpine Slide, the front unused \ maintenance area, and the as yet undeveloped land behind the wavepool amounts to almost 45% of their total land available within the block, i'd say they're nowhere near to running out of room - they just need to be smart about how the use what they have.... (and all this is without even touching the 3.5 acre carpark and overflow carpark - plenty of options to deal with that too) Of course - with all the undeveloped land behind them - who knows what the future holds for them.... so I think your statement is a little alarmist @Boyden Hingston-Muir - and that's coming from someone who has never even looked at the park's space before yesterday.
  8. LOL. absolutely. If you're unsure what i'm "babbling" about - perhaps some remedial English lessons might assist you? I must admit though - that makes all of us now - since none of us know what you're babbling on about most of the time... I still have no idea what you were on about here. We've pointed out your there\their\they're before - I guess you can't help some people... Seems like it gets worse for you by the minute... ...and so on. That's probably for the best old mate.
  9. I'm not in the habit of taking conversation advice from someone who can't even use the language fluently. But by all means keep biting. I haven't even had to bait the hook...
  10. Not confusing for me at all. Perhaps if you find it confusing, or you think my analogies incorrect, maybe that's where the issue lies... I just checked my fridge - it said you were wrong. Three inches never impressed anybody mate.
  11. It's ok - if you drive badly enough - you can still drive the old course!
  12. Wouldn't you then be cutting off back of house access to the coffee shop, photo shop, Rick's courtyard bar and others?
  13. Given it's planned to open in December, one would think it's probably already under construction.... Nearmap made a pass on 13 September - so this is about as up to date as you can get! And yes, it does look like the go-kart track has been shortened significantly to fit it in....
  14. 1. <headdesk> 2. <goto>*line1*
  15. Ok - I now count 9 replies all variously saying it can't, or why it can't. I think this has been answered thoroughly - can we close this thing off now?
  16. Now we have trust issues. How can I trust you when you're going to lie to me like that? that was summarised. if you insist, here's an auto summary
  17. You thought it would be profitable. I suggested maybe it wasn't. You said I asked you You asked me So I gave you a detailed answer to your question, which you claimed you wouldn't read... that's fine, it just tells me next time you ask a question, I should just ignore it, instead of trying to help you. Also - i never said it was, or it wasn't. I suggested MAYBE it wasn't - especially when they were selling tickets for $10, whereas fright nights tickets sell for $45. Which leads me to your fright night question....
  18. Hey buddy - you asked the question. Let me dumb it down for you. mayB coz dey dint mayk nuff munee frum shit 2 cuva der costs
  19. Major new attractions and Economically Responsible makes me think we can expect more Brickman style "attractions"
  20. Lambasting : A Harsh Criticism. I'm sure that they went directly to their porn collection, and chose her name. Perhaps "dreamworld inadvertently chose a name remarkably similar to that of a porn star, most likely, without knowing it" would be a more fair, less harsh way of putting it? I tried replicating it on numerous browsers and devices, after someone else had twigged on to it and shared their findings, and I still didn't see it on my own device until I watched where you found the results on your recorded video. It's hard to see how they would have found it - especially since i could only replicate it on my phone, and these guys would likely have done any googling on their office computer. On the contrary, Parkz has a pretty twisted sense of humour, and we've seen that appear sometimes in the old and now rarely seen "parkz update" - where every second photo has a wry or hilarious dig at our parks. But you are correct - the Parkz News is typically all business, sharing news, providing facts and figures, stats and so on... so it is difficult to determine where humor is intended, and that may well be the problem. @Richard has told me previously of his desire to have both 'serious news' and 'hahaha, porn starz!' (ok, not that specific but you get the idea) and I had thought the intention was to have two different avenues (both published by Parkz) for this to be channeled. Right now its hard to work out whether we're watching ABC news, or Last Week Tonight with John Oliver... Clearly i'm not the only one that's taken issue here Rich. After the discussion in this thread I get the intention, but if i take a step back and pretend I haven't been here for 14 years, I feel like you've missed the mark here - which is rare. And maybe - its a good indicator that those things we discussed a while back about separate channels for comedy \ serious reporting is needed....?
  21. I never suggested anyone did - but in future, to ensure porn related results, everyone will add the word to ensure if theres a similar name match, it will be found, instead of the hit and miss results we've had the past 24 hours. I for one will make sure any new ride name is searched with the word 'porn' included, as its just another one of those things everyone will do to perpetuate the joke (like the other perpetuated jokes I mentioned in my last reply) because its funny. I can confidently assure you that DC Ryder Hypercoaster, and DC Rivals Rydercoaster are both options for MW to rebrand if they want to join the dreamworld porn bandwagon, although they should probably try to last a little longer (i think theres a spray for that) and hold off the rebrand until the ride is no longer standing rigidly at the top of the gold coast's list, as it will surely see a surging forward thrust of interest, in particular from teenage and young adult males all wanting a ryde.
  22. You stated it had to be profitable at a minimum. Now you're asking why it wouldn't. This is entirely my point - HOW DO YOU KNOW? Answer is - you don't. And here's where paragraphs help you understand big boy conversation. First of all, you have staffing costs. Staff costs generally increase at a faster rate than hours worked due to overtime, union rules and industry award requirements. I'm not citing a specific park's bargaining agreement here, just speaking generally. Weekend casuals pick up some of the slack, but not always. There's lots of other little costs that crop up during night events that aren't present during the day. The park may need to bring in or install extra lighting if they haven't, or don't usually use that part of the park at night. Special merchandise (and flashy crap) plus people to sell it. Extra security, Extra cleaning, extra maintenance, extra wear and tear... and then there's hiring in additional staging, scaffolding, PA and lighting gear for the special event stages. But the biggest consideration by far is ride cost. Saying the energy cost is 'much less' because all the other rides aren't running is a bit misguided. Running the big 9 is the majority of your energy budget. Not running a chair swing isn't going to save you a lot of power when you're launching ToT's LIMs every few minutes. I can't quote you every ride cost, as I simply don't know - but I do know ToT goes for about $1500 an hour, and TailSpin at about $1500 for an hour and a half for private events. (And bear in mind staffing needs at private events might differ from a 'capacity' public night). Even if you assume a $1500 average (and i'm confident its far more) - 9 rides, running from 6:30pm to 10pm (3.5 hours) comes out a little over $47,000. I did a little googling and found the family christmas after dark event had tickets on sale from $29.99. That'd mean you'd need to sell 1575 tickets just to cover your basic ride costs. I found a groupon style website selling park after dark tickets to another event at just $10 on top of a regular ticket. At $10 entry, you'd need 5000 tickets sold to break even - and this is just break even ride costs... Park capacity is apparently 20,000 (which I find hard to believe), but general, full operation capacity, and night-time, reduced rides capacity is a very different thing. Cut out the wildlife area, Rocky Hollow, Wiggles World, Dreamworks Experience, and your park size is reduced substantially. You're basically trying to keep people in Ocean Parade, whilst allowing them access to giant drop and Mick Doohan - a heck of a long way from the rest of the entertainment - so let's say conservatively we stick with 10,000 capacity. There is the potential that up to half of your total capacity is eaten in just your ride cost, without factoring in food and beverage staff, merch, entertainment, hire costs and so on. Now, you'd hope that your food, and merch teams make a profit, but if people eat before they come, or aren't interested in flashy crap, you could potentially lose money - so thats always a risk. Bottom line is as I said before - they ran the ticket prices very lean, I presume, to attract more people to the park. Clearly the price point was too low, as they sold out and hit capacity - but what happened with the 26 May event? cancelled, and never rescheduled. If it's that profitable, why wouldn't you reschedule it? Having said all that, the park website does suggest Park After Dark will return in late 2018 - I presume for Christmas or Hallowe'en events - so I guess for now watch the website and await announcements...
  23. Yeah, Paragraphs. Because - you know, I like illustrating my point in enough detail so that it can be understood by most. I haven't figured out how to film shit in portrait mode whilst having a seizure yet, so I guess you'll just have to deal with paragraphs that have thought, structure and correct usage of the words there, their, and they're.
  24. <edit - add new> I predict every newly announced ride name will now be checked for Porn connections when posted to these forums.
