Theme Park Maintenance 2018
Thanks Brad, Pin and Rappa, Let's take some key points here: The XT\Skyloops still appear on the website, and as stated, they'll make anything for the right price. The manufacturer will continue to provide support to existing customers regardless, for the reasonable life of the product. These weren't my only points, as Joel's original arguments also stated that "Maurer no longer makes any rides that contain: 1- X-train 2-Lap Bars 3-Vertical Lifts" and through the direct website info, I showed that their options continue to include vertical lifts and lap bar restraints. Gladly, he provided the full screenshot of his ridiculous email, and judging by the timestamps (posted Saturday, received "yesterday") he's only emailed them to confirm after I've called him out, so it wasn't information he had to hand when he made his original assertions (on Thursday). Finally, his full name "Joel Ottaway" has lead me to connect the dots that he is Troy Ott (away) A.K.A. @totta3 A.K.A. @Minions! very dumb, stupid, annoying younger brother. Knowing the Ottaway family history on these forums, it explains everything.

Dreamworld's Peter Brock Experience closed
My first thought here was 'don't be ridiculous, that'd have dreamworks characters in the middle of ocean parade, worlds away from their themed land... then I remembered it was dreamworld.

Theme Park Maintenance 2018
You're really starting to shit me. You make a lot of broad reaching statements, but you never provide any support for them. A lot of them could be true, but without citation or support, it could very well just be your own assumptions, which you present as fact. The Maurer Rides website still lists Skyloops \ Skywheels (XT450, XT150) on their website under 'specials'. The same section lists: Drives Inclined / Vertical / Up-side-down Lift and LSM Launch Vehicles 2- / 4- / 6-seater as well as coupled single vehicles and trains Restraints T-Bar, Lap-Bar (X-Seat I), Overhead-Bar (X-Seat II), Flexible Bar (Belt) So I'm calling bullshit... (Interesting side note - has anyone discussed SPIKE yet? ) As for your suggestion that Dreamworld are going to have an issue getting manufacturer cooperation - just because a manufacturer doesn't sell the product anymore, doesn't mean they don't continue to provide support to their customers... and to suggest that is just stupid... how likely do you think another park would be to buy a Maurer product if they knew that as soon as the company decided to stop making that model, they'd be on their own?

I think it's a common sense approach too... in all honesty, replying to something directly above doesn't need a quote, but if it is quoted, the impact varies depending on the length. Example 1: See, whilst I personally would try my best not to do this, especially when the quoted post is directly above, I've probably been guilty of this from time to time (and I daresay a lot of us are probably in that same boat, whether we remember or not). This isn't annoying. Example 2: The red section indicated is the quoted text. The green section indicated is the actual content of the reply. The yellow section is the part of the quote that was actually relevant to the reply. This is annoying.- The Off Topic Topic

This is what I mean... so much information and none of it agrees. my main point is she wasn’t as new as she is portrayed: ”she had worked at dreamworld for more than a year and was trained to various levels on different rides, but had never worked on the thunder river rapids ride before, which was viewed by employees as one of the most challenging rides”- Thunder River Rapids Incident Coronial Inquest
What shits me about this particular detail is how out of context most reports portray it. Many media reports said 'first day on the job' - which can be twisted to be true, but doesn't convey the proper meaning. She was new to the ride, but she was a level two operator (clearly training up to be level 3), so she'd done her time on many other rides in the park before she'd stepped up to TRRR. it's not like it was her first day operating rides...- Current Sea World Thoughts (2018)

Too many Koalas for that to be effective though @Levithian I don't think people are suggesting all the rank and file workers get the arse. I think what's being suggested is that every person above those people who have ever made a decision based on whether or not they will fit within their budget, get their bonus, or please their boss, and have at any time determined that, or any other thing over spending money on fixing a piece of machinery that people pay to ride in safely. Despite some alleged shill testimoney (not sic) there were damning reports out of the inquest about recommendations that were ignored. People who were too busy to do their job properly... without going any further - that's too far. I have a fair idea what you do for a crust. If you raised a concern to your boss about something being unsafe at your workplace, and they told you to ignore it \ get on with the job \ sign off on it anyway \ it's always been like that why fix it now... would you just go with the flow? or would you immediately raise it somewhere else? this is the problem.- Thunder River Rapids Incident Coronial Inquest

Well, wasn't sea jellies supposed to be open by now? I think they'd be stupid to cut CAPEX spending at SW - the park is a hollow shell, that barely survives based on it's 3-park affiliation at present. it needs a new kid on the block to bring people back to something wow. If they let SW languish to save money, it will only end up costing them more as another loss-making park needs to be sold off. You gotta spend money to make money.- Village Roadshow sells Wet'n'Wild Sydney to Parques Reunidos

Actually, they have several photo-ops lined up. Free opportunities are listed separately to the paid-&-booked ones. Because those appearances don't always fill up, they also sell 'tickets' to those appearances at the actual appearance. Check your showtime guide and you'll find where those characters are appearing outside of the booked and paid experience - each one has a freebie.- Falling Standards at Our Parks
I disagree. Although 'the show' has taken a back seat to efficiency and profits, one only has to set the right culture, treat the staff right, and train them the way you want them to do the job, and they'll do it. Anyone who doesn't, gets fired and replaced - and you'll very quickly uphold the standards, and maintain them.- The Off Topic Topic
So is your spelling. that is a pretty poor state of affairs. the stain on the inside looks like rust, which obviously doesn't occur on a fibreglass slide. Can anyone shed light on how this occurs?- Thunder River Rapids Incident Coronial Inquest
- Dreamworld - tiger escape scenario
^sure, but if the animal isn't placing people under immediate threat, use a tranq if safe to do so with lethal force on standby. If the animal reacts violently, or the tranq doesn't take effect quickly enough, and the tiger gets into a 'danger zone' of getting too close to guests - then absolutely lethal force is required. Whilst DW's attractions operations and maintenance have been called into question, I've spoken to several people off board that talk of Pat with reverence, and whilst I haven't met Pat personally, everything i've ever heard about him gives me great confidence that when it comes to the tigers, he would ensure every possible care was taken, and i'm confident that would include neutralisation measures should a tiger escape. Those guys go into those enclosures every day with nothing but a carton of milk and their hands, and they walk with the tigers every day... but i'm confident each and every one of them would have no hesitation in taking one down if it were to get out and be unresponsive to their training.- Thunder River Rapids Incident Coronial Inquest
There was no need. The turntable speed versus the water speed ensured spacing. Rafts could be almost touching in the station, but the speed at which the turntable turned governed how regularly a raft would be 'released' at the end of the turntable. As the water speed was faster than the turntable, as each raft cleared the station they would pick up speed. The time delay until the next raft made its way clear of the station was enough to ensure distance was maintained. Rafts could bump prior to the conveyor if the conveyor was backed up, but as the water was less turbulent, and the course was flat leading up to the conveyor, bumping would be just that - a bump. Provided guests in those rafts remained seated, it was unlikely to be more jolt than a bumper car at that point in the ride.- Dreamworld - tiger escape scenario
Like any zoo with carnivore predators, (this is only my assumption \ opinion) You would have to assume that they have a range of non-lethal and lethal options to deal with an escaped tiger. Yes, I realise given what we've heard this week thats a big leap to make, but in the case of the tigers, I don't think anybody can imagine that 'it's all good' - neutralising weapons would have to be present. The next time someone's down there talking to Pat - can you ask him? As for an escape 'scenario' - no, they're not releasing a tiger, and they're not dressing up in a suit. Either handlers would 'walk' a tiger out to simulate the escape, or they would literally just hold a piece of paper saying 'escaped tiger'. for simulations, there's no need to go to the level of dressing up, or actually releasing a tiger. Again - this is all my own assumption, etc - but I would suggest that once identified, an all-park alarm through two-way and or other comms devices would occur. Staff should all be trained to usher guests away from the reported location, and or secure guests inside fences, ride envelopes or buildings. And no - nobody is waiting for QPS to arrive. if that animal places any human life at risk, it should be shot without hesitation... harambe be damned.- Thunder River Rapids Incident Coronial Inquest
When the turntable was operating, the rafts were not stopped. See the disney grizzly rapids video I posted above for an idea of how they did they. Once the turntable was switched off, there would have been a steel panel, hinged on the floor, with a hydraulic or pneumatic ram attached to it that would move sideways - towards and away from the loading platform. When the raft was in the correct position, the operator would engage the ram, which would sandwich the raft between the station and the ram, keeping it wedged whilst guests were loaded \ unloaded. Although this kept the raft in position, as a single pivot point, loading on an angle (if the gap didn't line up properly) would cause the rafts to wobble a little - which is why (i think) the rails were installed under the water in the station, to prevent the rafts from tilting much under the shifting weight. I think both Australian rapids rides had similar issue with the turntable - in a risk averse world, there was too great a risk of someone falling into the water with a moving platform and a moving raft. By stopping both, it was deemed 'safer' - but because stopping rafts increased chances of collision, other control measures were needed to maintain safety. By all accounts it sounds like Wonderland did, and Dreamworld didn't manage those control measures effectively. I can't speak for dreamworld, but in the rotating turntable days at wonderland, usually - guests would simply be sent on another round, and the turntable would only be stopped in a serious emergency. In other words if a guest was taking too long to get in \ out, the ride would not be stopped, and they'd be instructed to stay on \ stay off and wait for the next one. The turntable could be stopped, but that would muck up the spacing for the entire ride, so would only ever be done for an emergency.- Thunder River Rapids Incident Coronial Inquest
