Movie World, January 2016
I know we can click the topic headline, but don't we normally get a 'click here to continue reading' ? And is the park that pathetic that a brand new, only month old sign is already not being used as intended? What is today's grill? One of the worst things for me about HWSD is that the holes for the 'flying Evo' are still clearly visible on both sides of the building, completely ruining the facades. All we can do is hope and pray that the new developments will not take place in the already cluttered front apron of the park and instead utilise the severely neglected western end of the park.

I've done the one at Sentosa. it is awesome. their paradrop (whilst incredibly short) is also one to take your breath away.

What can Movie World do to reduce the strain?
I wouldn't say i'm someone who 'knows' but i'm just posing my own thoughts to the "Skeet Question" Separate load and unload platforms work where there are multiple ride vehicles, and the ride runs efficiently and to capacity. Take Scooby for a local example - if the unload zone is ready to send empty cars forward as soon as the load zone is cleared, it works well. Unload is usually faster than load anyway, so in a 'bucket brigade' format, it should work well. Rides like Big Thunder Mountain at DL Paris - running separate load unload platforms works well - again, where it is being run efficiently as less time is spent at the loading station. You can be unloading a train at the exact same time you are unloading one. Even when load and unload is simultaneous - like Bush Beast or Demon used to be - there is still a chance of a short delay where you're waiting for the previous rider to get their shit together. If a train is unloaded elsewhere, operators at unload (if they're on the ball) can ensure loose items removed, people have left, all harnesses are up and ready etc. I'm not sure i'm making my point, but consider this hypothetical: Viewed separately, an average rider takes 45 seconds to load. Viewed separately, an average rider takes 25 seconds to unload. The first 5 seconds are spent in the train. In theory, a train can dispatch on a combined loading platform within 50 seconds. This is because the unloading guest prevents the loading guest from commencing load until the unloading guest is clear. This is of course made worse by people who forget their bag, or for new riders who need to step across the train to drop loose items on the unload side, but if planned well doesn't take any longer than it takes to load the train. This is also made worse by single person loading, rather than a 'per row' loading (ie: Sea Viper\CorkScrew versus Jet Rescue). By splitting load and unload, you can unload a train at the same time. This in theory should cut your load time to 45 seconds... and because unloading is typically faster than loading, the train behind in unload should clear before the load station is clear... but in order to do this well - you should have a third train. The third train should be out on the track, running. It shouldn't be sitting in the brake run waiting for unload to clear. This is where 'efficiently and to capacity' comes into question. Two trains can operate well enough with a combined load\unload station provided the ride itself takes long enough - i'm thinking about bush beast here, and on many occasions where the ops team could have the red train rolling out of the station just as the yellow train came to a stop on the brake run. this meant only a momentary pause in the E-brake section before they were rolling into the station. but a separate station requires another train. There should always be at least one more train than there is station - depending on how long the ride is of course - the longer the ride (versus the load time) the more trains you can run... but the minimum ratio of trains should always be stations +1

Yeah look Rappa is on it here - the efficiency gained (as well as the loss of illusion) isn't worth spending thousands on electrostatic glass (although if they were going to do something about it, that would be it - cool futuristic technology and absolute wow factor! - nice suggestion @Slick) The thing is - I remember a time when we praised Movie World for installing high capacity attractions, and lambasted dreamworld for not doing the same. One of our praises was Superman Escape - how can we now be complaining about the ride's poor capacity? The only thing that has changed is staffing levels and motivation. Clearly then - this is what needs to be fixed first.

I was thinking the brushes could be cut to (roughly) fit perfectly around the train, so the only thing that would actually contact them would be the up-raised harneses. Given the superman fixture is the bit we're trying to hide, and it is attached to the train, that would mean your water curtain needs to fall on the train in order to be effective:

Thank you
sorry for the multiple posts.... @Noxegon - Megan is linking to roller-coaster.com.au for her gallery of Orphan Rocker pictures, which i'm pretty sure is replicated on Parkz at http://www.parkz.com.au/parks/AU/Blue_Mountains/Scenic_World/photos/ride/266 Please thank Megan for another fantastic read, and a great alternative view on our backyard favourites. In other news, the ride info is about 12 years out of date @Richard - I did try to edit the ride info, but it only lets you edit statistics, not the blurb. Surely we're up to at least 30 by now? Also - Megan makes mention of two articles suggesting construction commenced in either 1982 or 1983, although reading the news article, it sounds like the reporter is on the money with a 1983 construction.

Thank you
Yep - i've just gotten to the bottom of the scenic railway station - and it was indeed during Chinese New Year - that being about february, so it sounds perfectly in line...

'World Best' Attraction coming to VRTP
rules change. things approved prior to rule changes don't have to conform to rule changes. If they didn't put finish dates on things, developers could submit a shit load of approvals for things that would last many years and save them lots of money because they don't have to conform to the new rules. the end.

What can Movie World do to reduce the strain?
I listen to every word, every time. I know it by rote and stand in the queue mouthing the words every time. As for holding handles and not restraint, i think that detail is lost because the video has droned on for some time by then. The video could do with a rework, but the station doors could be re-worked too. As for hiding superman - why not car wash 'brushes' instead of rigid plastic curtains? the brushes will move out of the way of the train, but hide everything behind it, which means they're always in position, so there is no need to wait for them to open \ close - sort of like this:

Thank you
Yeah - pretty sure that was around the time they did the trip...

What can Movie World do to reduce the strain?
the photo seems to suggest two sections were added, but the back wall confirms it was only one. The length of that one segment is as per my previous measurement of approximately 8 metres. the 14 row count is accurate. Further - it doesn't look like the 'new segment' had another set of stairs added - so the additional 8 metres was all seating whereas the original 18 metres of the revue stand had an aisle down the middle a good 1.5 metres across, so closer to 16.5m of seating for 4 rows and 18m of seating for the 5th row... so the number of seats increased by a lot more than stated above...

I do hope that they do something with it - even if temporarily - billboards or banners - like what they have on the side of the TOT building facing KFP land... dress it up a little for the games...

but it was a tangential post, in no way related to the original topic, so hardly dead on that basis, when the comment relates to something else in the thread apart from the main topic of conversation. I mean - people are still talking in the 2015 in dreamworld thread, and it hasn't been 2015 for about the same amount of time as the new year....?

Pretty sure they still had some sort of FOH for PASS, even if it weren't as large as what is there now, and the VIP section is still seating for guests, so you can't really subtract that - it's extra revenue too... Also - the VIP area wasn't designed into the new arena, it was an afterthought - so they did add extra seating when the arena was built, which they've now divvied up for premium seats. I think you're being generous with the 60cm measure though, as kids won't take up that much room (probably fit 2 in there) and ushers generally squash people right up beside each other. Here's the Revue Stand: (@Richard - worth noting this came from Parkz, but there is no watermark) And i've just stumbled across Mad Mike's website, and i stand corrected - PASS did not have a FOH in the stands (of any description). You can see some more photos of PASS on his site - http://michaelbennett.com.au/PageView.asp?PageID=1 And I did not know he worked AVPX now? Such a shame VRTP let him go.

Speculation: New Attraction Planned for Movie World in 2016
If you build it - they will come. The 'north gold coast' is a lot of residential, and very little tourist attendance at night. If VRTP built a new resort - camping, cabins, hotel - that would be enough demand for them to install 2-3 'exclusive' cinemas...

'World Best' Attraction coming to VRTP
Your friend, who works at the park, telling you a new ride was coming, but not telling you anything more about it is not an "official statement" Also - this doesn't make you 'one of those several members that knew what was happening' as you've just admitted that you knew nothing about it - except that it was coming. If that's all it takes, then i'm going to make an official statement on behalf of Disney, Universal, Six Flags, Cedar Fair, Merlin, Ardent and Village Roadshow, and i'm going to announce that each of these companies will be installing new attractions. Unfortunately I can't say what they are, where they are going, or when they will open... but they are coming.

Tiger Island Refurbishment - Dreamworld 2016
What, in your opinion would be a 'proper' zip line? Look i'm not against Dreamworld putting in an upcharge - thats not why i'm against it - but it would take up a lot of land that could be used in other ways. small footprint upcharges - like Redline, the climbing wall, flowrider - I have no problem with these because they generally use space that isn't (and won't) be used for other things (although FlowRider is really in a bad spot now that everything has grown around it) (i'm pretty sure the climbing wall is gone now too). But this is a massive footprint, and therefore it needs to be far better than anything else they've got - and i don't think it is. As for Las Vegas Zipline - I mentioned this earlier: Vegas is the quintessential tourist trap, where all your entertainment costs money (and all your drinks are free) - So you're not choosing free vs. upcharge. Everything is an upcharge... its a question of WHICH upcharges you want to pay for - Their zip is pretty cool flying through fremont street, so its going to be an attraction to see a side of vegas you can't see any other way. Whilst flying through the trees at Dreamworld would be cool, it's not flying under a canopy roof between a mile of neon casinos cool. For that reason I don't see as many people riding it - especially when there are so many other rides and experiences at no extra cost. If Dreamworld were to look at the Vegas zipline as proof the concept would work - they'd be set up to fail. But you're right - the park would do it's research and would at least be reasonably satisfied it was viable before installing... I'm sure there are some - what other parks have ziplines through fairly plain bush type settings?

What can Movie World do to reduce the strain?
Thanks Wyn! So according to nearmap, that extension is about 8.5m long - going by Wyn's suggestion. The old 'western' (southern) stand was about 18m long - but it was only five rows of seating - HWSD arena has about 14 rows of seating - so an extra 8.5m definitely makes up for the loss of the Western (southern) stand.

Didn't they expand the front-facing grandstand when they took out the western end (southern) grandstand though?

I don't see anyone being thrown under the bus with that comment. Nevertheless i'll decline to comment further as I know full well @djrappa is capable of defending himself.
