  1. if they pull off the designs as illustrated, then i think they will do well - it kind of integrates the whole area as a motorsport precinct as such (without MDMC) - by theming Cyclone, Redline, PBE and the previously ocean-themed food outlet, it will serve to join the attractions together cohesively. Sure, it's on the edge of ocean parade - but given the GC600 is on the edge of Main Beach, I don't see a problem with the blurred lines... even moreso that cyclone will wrap around an aussie-beach-themed waterpark works as well IMO. I guess its not quite what we were hoping for when they announced a new V8SC attraction, but I am keep to see what they do with Cyclone. I hope it is more than just a new train, and that they at the very least paint the track, and theme the queue...* *god knows how on earth they're going to do that, but they'd bloody well better do something with it. Well, i'm sure the cyclone will be 're-verbed' as part of the refurb-ishment... although i'm not sure they did say "new coaster car" in there... they did say "new look coaster" which could just be a paint job and decals. I'm not sure they've said redline is being rethemed. they may just consider the current state of redline to be 'state of the art' And yes, i'm certain based on the imagery that the new food shop that's going to be built is just Shark Attack getting a makeover.
  2. Sounds like you guys are doing a stellar job! My first thoughts turned to the GC parks - thinking "why can't these guys get this sort of action done" - and then two things hit me - they open year round, so can't shutdown and do massive works across the entire park all at once, but the second thing that hit me is - they kind of are doing this - it's just we see it every day, instead of a big reveal at the end - so the impact is lessened - things like the news stand, and whatever they're doing with dirty harry bar at MW, an entirely new kids land at sea world... sadly it seems WnW has lost out a bit since the introduction of WnWS... DW too is also embarking on some massive renovations across multiple areas too. This is of course fairly recent works, and some of the biggest 'spread' of works across all the parks, all at once that we've seen in ages. Perhaps AW has 'returned serve' to the GC parks, and they're now following your excellent lead... time will tell. I'd love to come for a visit to AW, but distance and cost are prohibitive - in addition to the impending expansion of our family - but I look forward to what you and the team can come up with moving forward, and hope that perhaps MI3 might be the catalyst that will drag us to the west coast... Keep up the great work Mark, and thanks so much for keeping us informed. We all love having you here as a park presence on the boards. I hope the weather is kind to you guys. All the best.
  3. The trouble with a precinct in Arkham's Courtyard (now that Chinatown Alley is closed) is that the only reason you're there is because you've just gotten off the ride. It's a dead end, not likely to have high traffic flow, and probably a wasted opportunity. Now if there was a path leading around behind Scooby to take you up towards a new woodie next to Wild West, that would make more sense... or at the very least - opening up ChinaTown Alley at least to scooby, if not to main street - which would then give people a reason to walk that way. As for Wild West Falls - I'm not sure whether it was involved last year, but in past years, the entire western area (from the "Wild West Falls" Vulture sign) was fenced off. Something about nighttime, large bodies of water and alcohol service that just suggests it's not a very good idea to have that section open. It's not insurmountable to use that area, whilst still having WWF isolated, but it then has a similar issue to the Arkham courtyard. If there is no reason for people to go up there, you're not going to have the traffic flow in the area to make it worth it.
  4. Are you saying that because they have a rollercoaster themed to a movie that has a ghost train, that they couldn't do a haunted mansion? That's like saying Dreamworld shouldn't have bought shockwave, because they already had Claw... #ohwait. Rather than a "haunted" mansion, i'd love to see them do something akin to Mystic Manor in Hong Kong. Original storyline, memorable soundtrack, cute side-kick. Hong Kong took a slant on the traditional haunted mansion as ghosts and the like aren't very popular attractions in chinese culture - so instead they went with something more supernatural and "magical"... if you haven't been there - check out the ride on Youtube. Given their relationship with Sally Corp, I feel comfortable they could do something similar to Mystic Manor - so long as they keep the effects maintained, on a lower budget. It doesn't have to be a clone, nor does it have to be scary - it can just be fun... inserting another 'all age family' ride into a park that is sorely lacking it... but not TOO childish (a la Big Red Car) so it's actually enjoyable. If Sally can master the 'randomised path finder' you could insert a couple of different paths \ stories for the ride to take, which in turn would add to the re-rideability. You've got two choices - clear the rest of Toon ride's stage (behind JDS) and put it there (maintenance will have to find\build a different storage area), or level ShowStage, and theme it western... (Riley's Ranch or something)...
  5. I personally preferred the GameGear myself...
  6. Wasn't me asking Mark - I was answering their question with info based on what you'd already stated given total project cost usually around double that of the ride cost...
  7. Any pics Wyn? What sort of 'structure' is outside DH bar? could they be extending the bar area? Making it more than just a pub that serves nachos?
  8. it's possible... however it's also possible that the hoarding was previously painted red and white for some other reason - such as when it was used around the ice cream shop (pure speculation, i don't recall if they did) - i'm leaning this way at present because there is some plain wood there - if they did stripe it specifically for this particular hoarding, one wonders why they didn't stripe ALL of it, and left some with plain wood... of course - it's also possible that they just didn't finish painting it last night, in which case I'd expect to see another photo of a fully-striped hoarding in the next few days...
  9. it has the FN logo, and it's on a hoarding. I would suggest that means the hoarding is surrounding the 'new attraction' and that the new attraction is for fright nights.
  10. flat-chested females... or eunuchs. with no arms. Seems legit.
  11. I know it says rideS, but realisically - unless the park is going the way of Sunway management - rideS are inevitable.... nothing says it can't take 6 years to do it though! (although i'm hopeful it will be in the next year or so... i need something to bring me back to the parks... they've all been a bit *yawn* lately...)
  12. doesn't look female to me - are you sure? Either way, I guess they're 'armless.
  13. WE know the differences, but at the end of the day its the public perception that will drive attendance at the park (or not). Even if something is COMPLETELY different in our eyes, if it looks the same... the public will view it that way - and one of them will end up being 'poor cousin' to the other in the eyes of the public.
  14. Someone call the bulletin immediately!
  15. Certain things will get people's backs up: posting rumors from the dippin dots guy, or from 'my sisters boyfriends uncle who works at the park'asking questions that have already been answered in the threadAsking for updates on a topic that only had recent news mentioned a few days previouslysaying "i know what <X> is, but i can't say"stating assumptions as factdisagreeing with Robb Alvey on TPR pages and facebook feeds (but only if you're Robb Alvey)...I'm sure there's many things other non-moderator members could add. I'm sure the Mods could add a few too. There are plenty of examples where everyone here gets along well, and enjoys good debate. Many people on here i've had more than a few run-ins with, who I now consider a friend. There are also many more examples of people who are stupid. Tolerance level for stupidity is low here, and is generally reacted to with speed and fury. Nature of online communities (almost) everywhere I guess.
  16. I think Brad's response came from the way you worded your own "obviously, you haven't....." I have, but as Brad points out - Universal do far higher attendance that can support such an attraction cost, and Draculas are a destination marketing that wholly and solely - in addition to an admission charge JUST for that product, rather than an all-inclusive gate price such as MW. It's fine to talk about what would be a nice attraction... but let's be feasible and realistic. It'd be nice for MW to beat SFMM's record and have the most coasters of any park in the world... but the park just can't support that.... so it's not going to happen.
  17. You mean since the dates announced on wednesday, and the snapchat teasers released up until friday? you mean has there been anything new since friday, over the weekend, typically whilst the PR guys aren't working? No. No there hasn't.
  18. Adding this type of walk-through attraction to the park on a permanent basis does not make sense. Mazes for FN are specifically done for an audience paying additional entry fees, which allows them to hire on scare actors temporarily. Adding this kind of experience to the regular park line up would be incredibly labour-intensive (wage costs), without getting any additional revenue at the gate. I also feel like scare actors working the same shift day after day would lose their lustre after a while too. There's only so many ways to say "boo". You'd get used to the maze very quickly if you visited often enough, which would mean the scares wouldn't work (Of course - they could change the maze up every so often, but that too comes at a cost) Contrast this with a stage stunt or illusion show - they're the sorts of things (PASS, MM etc...) that you can go to again and again, and enjoy even though you'd seen it before... not to mention that things like stunt and illusion shows you can change the lineup, insert new gags \ illusions etc to keep things fresh and unexpected.
  19. Sounds alot like Mystic Manor too.
  20. ...and here we see all the colours Dockside has been painted. As you can see - it was really getting on in years...
  21. It really is a very big waste of space right now. I agree they do some wonderful things with the stage for FN - but it's about the only time each year it gets utilised. It's time (as we've long discussed) for the show stage to receive a makeover - book a contract with a performer (magic\stunt\etc), do something a la Universal's Movie Magic show, or demolish it and put an attraction in. personally i'm in favour of the performer aspect - either Western Stunt show (which really needs an open air stage IMHO) or an illusionist. I know it doesn't really have any great movie tie-in (well you could if you tried) - but Millennium Magic \ Spellbinding Sorcery was always something i could watch again and again. I'd love to see MW do something like that.
  22. By necessity. When you regularly see millions of people attend your park, you've got to be able to work them through quickly. Our parks don't see anywhere near the attendance figures of the US parks, so the obviously don't need 4x 4x8 trains. The only thing you'll achieve by doing that is running trains half empty, or leaving trains stack in the brake runs whilst you wait for the one in the station to finish loading\get full. Two trains is enough here at the moment (although they have to run them!)
  23. ... and now that my multiquote is working again - to illustrate my point... (Ok I meant Jobe there, not Joz) The defence rests Your Honor.
