Movie World Scheduled Maintenance 2024
If you read very carefully, you'll note that I said: You can rest assured that Fright nights and Christmas events would have been planned for by the maintenance team to have the trains available - I was referring to times that weren't peak periods: Highly unlikely if the event was sold out. They've had staffing woes for several years now. It may be an ongoing thing, but if they're still battling with an inability to recruit and retain good staff - this is no longer an issue with recruitment, it's an issue with culture.

Could Big Brother return to Dreamworld?
Just because a TV show returns, doesn't mean everything about it would be the same. It would technically be possible for them to do it at Dreamworld. Although BB Studios has been bulldozed, the Dreamworld Exhibition Centre could technically host the live evictions should that be an option. Production facilities were installed onsite, but technology to do production remotely from another location is far better than when they started the show 24 years ago. Production facilities can work out of trucks like they do for award night broadcasts. Not the most comfortable for the crew, but you can make it work. No. they're not doing it at dreamworld. If you're tying it to a park, yes, but there are soundstages \ film studios in places other than Oxenford. This could have been a new thread...

Sky Voyager: Experience USA
Thanks for sharing your perspective. I can understand where you're coming from, though I haven't had the same experiences. I think having some alternate films running periodically is a good thing. Clearly they can run more than one film in a day so it isn't a programming issue - though I'm not a fan of the "10-2is film A, then 2-5 is film B" approach because it forces you to get to the park early enough and then stay for both (which is a good thing for the park, but doesn't work for those who might be tempted to drop in for the new film, if it doesn't suit their schedule. Even switching every hour would be a good compromise, in my opinion - but again, i'm not sure what the financial costs are with showing one of the other films, so if it needs to be limited runs, I can understand that. I do agree it's not a massive priority for them - but these new Africa films do sound like something different and i'd be keen for them to come to Dreamworld.

@Brad2912 - to be very clear, nobody was providing you with stats on other installs to try to change your mind or prove your opinion was wrong... I asked you how you were measuring it being long overdue. I included a comparison to the Soarin films as an illustration of why I was asking the question. New Display Name replied to the question I asked you. His answer was that everyone had seen SV's film, but plenty of people hadn't seen Disney's, and that's why. The following posts, by myself and tricoart were responding to that reply rather than yours - outlining that the disney parks didn't have a high degree of 'new' visitation to warrant keeping the films for so much longer in comparison. Nobody is trying to change your opinion. It would seem several people disagree with you, but as all have pointed out, opinions are certainly something to which everyone is entitled. I am still asking you the question - by what measure do you think it's overdue. I've known you on these forums long enough to know that you generally have a reasonably developed position on a topic you comment on - i'm just enquiring what it is as I can't comprehend the viewpoint and want to understand more about it? The films are expensive to produce, and naturally the Australia one was commissioned as part of the overall capital expenditure on the original attraction - but there's a reason why most of these Brogent installs tend to just show one of the other films within the 'brogent family' of Flyover attractions - producing new ones isn't cheap, and generally needs a return on investment to make it worth it. We already know Sky Voyager didn't give the park the attendance or profit bump the management of the time had hoped for, and while the attraction is a solid part of the park's lineup, it isn't the showstopper that has people rushing to the park when a new film is added (which has happened twice to-date with no major change in attendance patterns or queue lengths). So I don't think the park is going to justify producing a new film. I've no idea of the licensing obligations for the films, so I don't know if they have to pay every time they show the other films, or if its more of a one-off purchase to show certain films (the limited run would suggest it's pay per play), and i'm not sure I want the park spending more than they already have on the various films. And i'm very happy with the Australian one. The underwater one sucked. That said - obtaining one of the other films for a limited run is clearly something the other FlyOver installs have shown is very possible - which would we all like to see? please. tell me. in your opinion. by what metric is Sky Voyager well overdue for a new film? What constitutes "long overdue" in your opinion? Is there a specific timeframe for which you think a film should be changed? Should that timeframe be influenced by budget, funding, and popularity of the attraction, or should it be replaced regimentally at the same age in the cycle? How does the geographic location of the attraction influence the replacement interval of the film? What other factors are impacted by the Unique Geography of the Gold Coast, in your opinion?

I wasn't going to bother, but since we're boiling down to pedantry. You said "it's well overdue" (It. Is. Well. Overdue.) Not "it's well overdue in my opinion" I'm totally ok with not changing your mind about feeling like they're overdue for a new film, just as i'm totally ok with the original Aus film remaining as is. I simply asked by what metric you were determining it as overdue - as - the only metric I could compare it to would be the other flying theatres i've been on, all of which have had significantly longer runtimes than Dreamworld's current iteration. Not at all - just the closest available comparison for statistics. There isn't as much information available on some of the other flying theatres around the world, but if you can find some, i'd be happy to hear some that offer an alternate view on the age of the various films? (and i've just seen Tricoart has added some of the more accessible installs, so i'll just add: Flyover Canada opened in 2013 and continues to show the canada film, alternates with Flyover Iceland, and switches out seasonal films for halloween and christmas Flyover America opened in 2016 and continues to show the USA film, alternated with the Canada film from 2017, and from 2020 showed the Hawaii film as it's alternate (continues to show USA) Flyover Iceland opened in 2019 and currently shows the Iceland film and "Believe Chicago" Flyover Las Vegas opened in 2021 and shows The Real Wild West, Flyover Iceland, Believe Chicago and Canadian Rockies. It proves all of the flyover installations continue to show their original install video, with seasonal alternates of some of the other regional films - even 11 years later!

The current iteration of Soarin' Around The World is run in 4 parks across two continents and three countries and is still universally popular DisneySea opened its version the same year SkyVoyager opened and regularly has the longest line in the park despite park visitation largely being local - the Kanto (Greater Tokyo) region has consistently hit around 70% of the parks overall attendance and well over 80-90% of park attendance coming from Honshu (big island). This leaves less than 10% of the parks visitation coming from other islands of Japan, as well as foreign visitation). *Foreign visitation has exceeded 10% for the first time in 2024 The population of Kanto is around 43M people (2010) and the park's annual visitation was around 27.5Million in 2023. I think you're grossly underestimating the amount of local, regular attendees to all four locations that visit the parks regularly. I'd give you even money on finding someone in the line in California for the attraction who hasn't seen it before on your first pick. I'd bet 100:1 on finding a first-time rider in Tokyo in a blind random selection (blind mainly because a foreigner is a little easier to spot in Tokyo vs California). As for Dreamworld, It is the one true family attraction that most of the family can ride and enjoy with almost universal appeal. Outside of enthusiasts, my friends and family who attend dreamworld regularly all identify SV as their favourite, and many of the kids each have their favourite parts. Just because people have seen it, doesn't mean it's overdue for a replacement. The same could be said for any other attraction on the coast that offers a similar ride experience on every ride - and yet many rides are ridden over and over again - why then is a flying theatre the only attraction subjected to the 'been there, done that' excuse?

Movie World Scheduled Maintenance 2024
Can confirm Dreamworld tends to have ST's second train available to deploy fairly often. I've seen them whip out the second train when the line got a bit long on a reasonably off-peak weekend. That said though, it's not like they have multiple multi-train coasters to manage, whereas until WOZ opens, every coaster at MW has multiple trains. Rebuilds do take time. I'd love to say that it's just bad luck that the second train you want them to put on is being rebuilt, but theres too many coincidences for that to ALWAYS be the case.

Wizard of Oz - Movie World Arkham Asylum Replacement
It looks like a nice umbrella. Can't wait to see what else they've dreamed up for this new land. (Will we see a coaster dynamix model like they did with Leviathan?) I'm sure most people understood the reference, but its still a bit weird to be objectifying the host of a teaser video wearing street clothes and construction PPE. She's not a paid model wearing a sequined gown draped over a new car specifically to appear like eye candy. The reference is dated (the episode first aired in 1993) and we've come a long way in 30 years that this level of objectification is just weird.

Weight restriction Gold Coast theme parks
Vortex is probably the most limiting restraint in the park. Leviathan will accommodate you if you fit on Rivals or Taipan. Trident is even more accommodating than that. Storm is a weird one but again should be fine if you make the other big coasters. Jet Rescue will really depend on where you carry weight with your thighs needing to fit under the front of the restraint, but is otherwise fine.

Movie World Scheduled Maintenance 2024
It took me a hot minute to figure out ARB was referring to Anti Roll Back device, and it is obvious to me that my vocabulary is no longer on fleek. There's a really good chance if the park isn't running the second train, it's getting some level of work done to it - teardown \ rebuilds are constantly happening in the park maintenance area - gone are the days where the train in the maintenance bay could be whipped out whenever a significant line formed unless the maintenance team had planned very carefully for the second train to be available (which is why 2 train ops by default rarely happens outside of peak holiday periods regardless of how busy the park is). (Personally I like the click clack sound that accompanies a traditional lift hill, and honestly wouldn't have even realised something was different without it being pointed out.)

King Claw - Larger Replacement Intamin Gyro Swing for Dreamworld
In that case I'll withdraw my remarks and apologise profusely for my assumption. Dreamworld standards aren't a thing, and the coroner's inquest made clear the park's methods weren't up to standards so the use of that phrase implied something 'dodgy'. I would have thought manufacturer standards and major inspection standards would be the two different levels that the rides could have been assessed under, and presumably without a teardown - they'd have followed the manufacturer's annual inspection standards?

King Claw - Larger Replacement Intamin Gyro Swing for Dreamworld
Rivals is seen as one of the best Mack Hypers out there, and it barely pulls in the YouTubers, let alone Joe Public from around the world. A big Gyro is a claim to fame, but its more likely if it proves popular parks in other regions would build similar products - they'll be signing up to buy it if its successful. It's not going to result in a pendulum ride being the most popular in the park. There wasn't enough time for a full 10 year teardown on everything, but your implication that they fudged something after such an incident is a little distasteful. I've no doubt everything would have conformed to a manufacturer's annual inspection requirements and would have been overseen by externals. Here we are again reagitating years old incidents that nobody took issue with at the time...

King Claw - Larger Replacement Intamin Gyro Swing for Dreamworld
It's been 8 years. The park has been through a pandemic, finalised the inquest, built a memorial, built two new rollercoasters and is in desperate need of a wet ride with the loss of both thunder river and also log ride - the closure of which was not directly related to the incident. And bear in mind an announcement of a new ride now means a build is probably 12-18 months off. How long should they wait before it's not 'too soon' in your mind? The release says 'new ride' so all of the existing models you've referenced are unlikely to play a factor. I don't think there's any chance its an upgrade to motocoaster or claw. It is possible a new ride will replace one of these, but the net ride count remaining the same isn't desirable. Claw is at the 20 year mark, so anything is possible. The line markings near claw are interesting, but may be unrelated. It would be disappointing for them to cram even more shit into ocean parade when they have the entirely vacant log ride land to utilise, to provide more balance to the park. I'd like to see them put something new over that side.

Dreamworld staff member mauled by tiger with “multiple deep lacerations” to body
Just bear in mind the forums aren't a live chat. Not everyone logs in every day to stay current and participate in the current chat in real time. I routinely avoid Parkz most weekends to spend time with my family and get things done around the house so things said friday night don't get replied to until Monday morning. The lateness of the reply doesn't invalidate someone's thoughts on a topic. (Though a mega bump on a topic that is long since settled after several months is a bit far, IMO) I'm 100% with you on this point. As for the rest - your choice of words is poor and shows your lack of knowledge on the topic. it is important to differentiate, and the fact you make comparisons to a circus, acknowledge the differences, but then say just continues to show your lack of awareness. The folks who work at tiger island are some of the world's most passionate supporters of tiger conservation and education, and continuing to compare them to circus performers is just downright insulting.

So far everyone has talked about how shit it is without knowing how it's going to be finished. And I'm not seeing many suggestions on how to finish it off? I've got one - Given how Tiger Island itself hid the non-themed parts of buildings, maybe they could head down to bunnings for a couple rolls of bamboo fencing, and everyone would be happy, yeah? Exactly, though given the progress, it would seem as though they aren't panelling the shed in the same way as the front of the temple, so I get the concerns - but it's still an unfinished job, and you know what they say about showing fools.

On this point, no. The gum tree gully canopy around JR isn't likely to suffer as badly as Levi is out on the spit - Keep the white shed - we've discussed colourbond colours and the queensland sun before - the darker colours aren't going to be kind to the temperature inside the shed, so white is fine - just hide it better.

Jungle Rush Coaster
This one irks me a lot - the final brake run could have benefitted from some love here for dual purpose - it would hide the maintenance building, but it can also potentially shelter the train on the brake run instead of baking riders in the sun if the train is stalled here for any reason. Given the fake greenery they've used elsewhere, a 'tunnel' of this greenery would be perfect here to hide the building, and make it look like you are diving back into the leviathan's lair.

I mean it kinda is. Ignoring Universal for a moment, who fit the similar 'movie park stage' exclusion you've offered up for Movie World - Disney's standards are the supposed benchmark for a fully themed, immersive theme park. And even they don't build themed facades around everything you can see from literally every angle in the park. Sometimes they paint it go away green, and call it a day. And that's ok. - Jungle Rush Coaster
