The wording is just vague enough that they may only announce a new ride, but not have it ready for next season. It's not time to change the name of the thread because they still haven't announced it, it's all still speculation.

World's oldest what? Woodie? No. Wooden Racer? possibly. At 36, it comes in on RCDB's list of 'still operating woodies' halfway down page 3: http://rcdb.com/r.htm?order=10&ot=2&nm=na&st=93&ex=1&ty=2&page=3 I was quite disheartened to hear the news the other day from TPR. The comments did suggest a reworking, rather than demolition (although colossus does occupy valuable real estate that could easily fit 2 or more other coasters if they wanted to). I rode Colossus in 1996 and 2013, roughly 18 years apart. I must admit in 2013 she looked like she was struggling, and they were not running two trains across the structure at the same time. In whatever fashion they choose, I hope they keep the old girl around a bit longer. Step By Step, KnightRider, A-team, a KiSS movie.... she's one of the industry's biggest stars when it comes to film and TV.... and an absolute icon.

i think my disappointment will be tempered if 'grown-ups' can accompany the kids (and hey let's face it - ride themselves at least once). It's not like any of the other rides where the kids can see their parents standing behind the fence. What good is the ride if the kid disappears into a dark room for 15 minutes and then comes out going 'awesome!' - Where are the home movies going to come from now?

Nothing sad about the original disneyland autopia... except it's nothing like it (in my own opinion)

Probably nothing - but don't both Tornados face the west? Would it lack the same 'solar' ability that many of the others do because most others have wide open or northern facing pools?

hell if you're a QLD'er visiting Sydney for a week - $60 is a nice price to visit the park for a day, stop in for a night-session, drop by for an afternoon's dip... (If it weren't for other benefits, i'm sure its the kind of pass Gazza would love to make use of)

Yes... in the same way Wonderland had 'beastie' (which many guests called 'little beast'), and bush beast - beastie was something smaller kids would ride and enjoy and be a 'graduating step' from kids rides to the big thrills. Now we'll have Tornado, and Tornado Lite...

(Looking at the photo in the article, it doesn't appear to be something parents can ride too) *For the first 6 months before we run out - at which point nobody will bother to order more and we'll just discontinue the practice. In other news, we're hiring more cleaners to deal with the several thousand discarded driver's licenses left on the ground. Carnivale* I know Movie World is ABSOLUTELY overdue for a good quality kids ride... and it looks as though they're going to be waiting a while longer. I'm quite underwhelmed by the concept, and looking at the cars, it doesn't look like adults will be able to ride. I'm concerned we've ripped out a 'fun for the whole family' ride to replace it with what is in effect a very expensive, high-real-estate-usage kiddie ride, that is intended to be EDUCATIONAL?>??????? I don't want to be too judgmental with only the concept at hand at the moment, but - like a year ago when we all first started talking about it - i'm disappointed. The WnW move confirms the excavators and other works seen at the park recently - and perhaps should have it's own thread? I always thought that this 'WnW Jr concept was something missing - especially when you see the wiggles area at WWW - this fills the gap nicely.

^that's actually a fantastic idea - people would VERY quickly forget about the early-late-closure, and immediately begin discussion and speculation over the new addition. That said - I don't think we're going to see another massive blockbuster for a while - next season i think we'll see some love to some existing attractions.

but the NORMAL season WOULD have closed by now - it's only that they advertised 'open until June' earlier in the season because of an apparently 'bumper' season (because of Abyss) and now they've baulked at the possible losses of a bit of bad weather (which you have to eat when you're in the tourism industry) and make two bad calls - the first to close the park at a moment's notice because of the rain, and then to rescind their extended season because the rain continued... My calendar is lying to me this morning, and i'm pretty sure Perth has a public holiday today, so this long weekend should have been a fitting end to their season. As I said earlier - this is going to leave a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth after what has been a fantastic season.

Continuing your nerdy point of view - considering the movie (and the ride) are 10 years old, is the movie really relevant enough now to stay true to the theme (ala Wild Wild West) ? If the licensing details could be overcome - changing Scoob up could be a worthwhile exercise - it's still one of the most popular all-round attractions in the park, and is generally the first with a long wait, despite being a "continuous load" attraction - Giving 'the doo' a little makeover could be just what the doctor ordered - especially since the theatrical cobwebs and dust are now being overrun by real cobwebs and dust...

I agree it would be nice for them to try something different Alan, but these 'themed events' have only really taken off here in Aus in the past 5 years or so (ignoring Wonderland's events which were never really outside of normal operations). The overseas parks have been doing hallowe'en christmas spring break etc etc etc for many years. What sort of event would you like to see them do, that hasn't already been done? (and I would caution you - there are many well travelled members on these boards that may be able to point you to a park that has already done it!)

It's just you. Bluey's is a better lunch than anything inside the park.

I am aware that they CAN be sacked with an hours notice, but the ability to give their staff MORE than an hour would be APPRECIATED which was my statement.

Another low capacity one trick pony shoe horned into an existing park with no thought to cohesiveness or suitability, and purely just so they can say "see? we added a new one!"
