thanks for the reminder. Google actually has street view in Movie World - Looks like we may have lost the pencil pines over the back but the big bushy trees near the front look like they're still there. The big pine right beside the hut is obviously gone, and i'm not sure how I feel about that. It gave some great shade in that area, and was likely an original park planting... i'm keen to see what they are planning for this area...

Sandy Shores Lagoon Refurbishment at Sea World 2023
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It's nice to see this area getting some love. -
this is over the steps - but what is the rest of the hoarding? just plain white wall? wayfinding signage? a giant QR code? fair enough they've provided a 'best attempt' photo opportunity (disney castle renovactions get similar substitutes) - but is the rest of the wall plain white?
-
Agreed. This should have been bare minimum day one, but kudos to them for realising the mistake - either through their own observations, this community, or elsewhere - at least they recognised they screwed up and tried to fix it. This is at least plan 'D' in the process - but hopefully something they learn from and add to their "future works checklist"

on the contrary, black backgrounds would be perfect to stick vinyl snowflake stickers in white or silver - TBH black would be one of the better colours for that, so I wouldn't imagine that the sudden change is for that reason (if it was indeed made white for winterfest, being that it only went up 2 weeks ago, you'd think they'd have planned it that way rather than changing it so quickly, no?)

then they picked the wrong park to visit, or visited a half day park intentionally to ride something specific. -
Viking’s Revenge Flume Ride Removal
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yeah - mourning for this ride started a long time ago. Now it's just rubbish that the park has let sit for way too long, and it's good to see them tidying things up, even if a ride or install isn't planned for the area. I don't follow his page, but looking at these (and taking into account how often his content is reposted here and elsewhere) I can't blame him for such a bold watermark. The fact that the colour changes based on the background, and the placement is different in each one to place it in a spot that doesn't obscure anything relevant to the shot is good. If I can still see the entire image \ not missing anything covered by a watermark, I don't really see a problem.- 176 replies

Wet n Wild SurfRider taken off website
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Natti_amusements's topic in Theme Park Discussion
There could be any number of reasons why it didn't go in one hit, but now that we have one i'd guess that the rest are going to appear pretty fast.- 406 replies

I'm keen to see what they do with the space - this wasn't part of their Oz\Marvin announcements so it sounds like a park refresh more than a new ride - but i'd be ok with a seating area as WB Kids does lack a nice spot to sit while the kids run amok (the area next to tweety was never big enough, and Marvin took out the little space at the back, so it's needed now more than ever) I'm wondering about the wall though - what was in front of it before, that it wasn't painted like the rest?
-
Well.... white fixes everything! /s I'm confident in saying this wasn't their original plan - otherwise it'd have been white from the start. If this is their fix, it's poor, but if they've gone white to offer it as a canvas for a paint and sip class or some local tag artists like I suggested a while back, then I can't wait to see what they put up. I think it'd be a great local touch to get any long-term hoarding tagged up or otherwise painted by artists. (As long as, if the park tries to reuse them or copy the art for other purposes besides hoarding they pay the artist for usage, of course)

Movie World Scheduled Maintenance 2023
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to TBoy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It feels like you're trying to corner someone into a specific quantifiable measure to argue against - it isn't that simple. Not only does the park, the attraction mix and the number of rides impact on quantifying, so does the individual guest. I still think it's hard to have a firm line. If you're open, you consider that you can offer guests something. Guests coming into Movie World with children under 10 right now are only lacking the carousel (and scooby) so the vast majority of the kid's lineup is available. The present situation for older guests has DC Rivals, West and Doomsday down (and scooby). It's bordering on becoming an issue for one-day guests *in my opinion* - especially if unplanned closures impact on the day. Green Lemon, Batwang and Superman, along with Justice League and Roxy are the only 'adult' offerings available. If they lost another one out of that lineup, i'd hope guest services would be receptive to a request from a disappointed day-guest. (Again, *in my opinion*) A short while ago I posted a picture of the A-frame outside the park when they had a significant number of closures on the board - such a list was so long, they nearly ran out of room for all the magnets they had on there. On a day like that there should be no question - hands down, have your refund. But again, individual circumstances vary, and one person's ruined day can be another's 'best day'. I'm not intimately familiar with the park the screenshots posted earlier came from. All I can see is two attractions open, and most of the big names (the ones i've heard of) were closed. For me, that'd be a deal breaker - and given most of my trips overseas don't have spare days to try a park on more than one day - if that was their offering for my one and only chance to visit - i'd demand my money back, simple as that. -

Movie World Scheduled Maintenance 2023
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to TBoy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yep, and that's perfectly fine, assuming no unplanned maintenance or downtime. People clearly can't complain if they were told about it before purchasing. It doesn't make it ok to charge full price when your park is decimated by closures, and it doesn't make it ok to offer a voucher for a return visit and refuse a refund. -

Well, your personal experience must mean its the same everywhere and expiry dates are added by corporations just for shits and giggles then! No. It isn't. In case you missed the sarcasm above. I don't want a voucher i'm almost guaranteed to never use. In the words of my attorney, -
For starters, it's a one-way dead-end, currently.

Luna parks wooden wild mouse future
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to REGIE's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Since they are 'guest rideable' - seems a missed opportunity to have one set up as a photo opportunity - let people sit in one, put up a static backdrop of the harbour bridge or greenscreen it and sell "on ride photos" - they've already got the photowallets made up...- 123 replies

Movie World Scheduled Maintenance 2023
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to TBoy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
If I was a day ticket holder, and fronted up to an overseas park I was unlikely to visit again, and the ride closures looked like that, i'd be asking guest services for a full refund rather than a free pass i'd never use. And If I was a local, i'd have an annual pass and probably wouldn't care. -
I'm not sure the Dreamworld Main Street is flat enough to suit a typical parade - floats wouldn't work, I don't think. While there is no wave swinger, there's a small problem of a giant bodgy wall taking up half the pathway.
-
Marvin's footprint takes up about 40sqm. The space between the HWSD exit doors and the hut is quite a bit larger than that - however i'm not sure whether it's viable - and would depend on what they use the space behind first aid for - The hut is connected to another structure, which is also connected to first aid.

Perhaps the trees have now grown enough to shield the neighbours from the screams that the screamguard is no longer necessary? -
Yeah the carrots were removed many years ago. I remember at the time there was an online community petitioning to keep them - there was a website and everything and I think it had cast member connections to it as well. This thread from August 2007 shows the demolition For a while now i'd thought the rundown shack the subject of this thread had formerly been a carrot... they have the same basic shape - but looking back now I don't think it was... Yeah - gotta be honest, it looked like shit so i'm also excited they're removing it. It's interesting that they're doing it without any apparent plans for the area so i'll be keen to see what they do with the space once it's gone.

The Giant Drop Refurbishment 2022
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think they dropped the 'scream' name to avoid negative connotations. It's probably wise to avoid other references including 'lights out at dreamworld'. Regular, random, non-event-specific night events would be cool but i think they need to restore day trade a bit more before that should be a priority. Moonlight Markets are doing a great job of getting people used to coming to the park at night so I think it's only a matter of time before we see them start to expand their offering to include the park attractions at least in some part (and they've already started with Flyer) -
Latest nearmap has a number of containers and site shelters in place. There's definitely room out there for the globe (it's not like its much bigger than a minivan), but (and this is just laziness here) the 'commercial vehicle entry' is the primary vehicle access to main street. A franna with a giant globe swinging off it can't get to the maintenance area any other way except to drive around WhiteWaterWorld. So the current storage area - which is about 150 metres from the gatehouse is a lot closer than the ~1.8km round trip to drive the globe all the way to BOH. Realistically they should have put it straight onto a flatbed - but IMO it's where it is because they didn't want to walk the damn thing all the way round the back.

Yes - the big point of difference is 'opening them at night to a non-admission paying public' is different to 'opening them at night for a specific, ticketed event'. -
I hear the Bodge signage has already been taken down
