  1. final drop laser is a given. I realise the problems with reinstating the previous lasers, but the green lasers hitting the side-mirrors and bouncing all around just made the disco room, much better than the coloured laser. Look the coloured laser certainly is a great effect, but it's not as visible. The comment i replied to was "as good as ever". THe coloured laser is good. I'm not saying its BAD, just different. The ghost train part doesn't have the same quality it used to - some of the animatronics aren't on the same timing \ they look tired, and the spotlighting on some of the effects (for instance - the first scooby after the station) never turns off - so while you're queueing in the station, you can see the start of the storyline. The lift sound effects - "scooby... scooby doo where are you?" and the wind effects are almost non existent. (Last ride where I observed this was the last weekend of June). Smoke presence in the disco room isn't as good as previous - but this may just be the fact it isn't AS visible without such a BRIGHT green laser.
  2. Rappa did mention a while ago that the steam and fire will never come back - apparently both effects relied on a gas line that was plugged and capped during the construction of jet rescue.
  3. as good as ever? there are still a few deficiencies in the ride's current operation....
  4. A video? You mean a slideshow, right? And in bearing reference to the topic - does it contain diego?
  5. Good find Shadow. Not sure if thats an official release, but it does contain decent quality (and some inside) footage. The liftoff of the rocket from the HWSD set is pretty crude, but apart from that, top notch work - and it sums up the goings on at MW for this holiday period - so anybody that hasn't, or can't see the parade - get a look at this to see what you're missing!
  6. THats not ENTIRELY a bad idea - but to do it now would seem like trying to tag onto something most guests would have no idea about (your average guest is unaware of what has just happened in florida). Wait until november, when the next movie hits the cinemas, and make it a christmas holidays special - make a crap load of money on the concept without a long term drain on staffing etc. I'm sure the licensing for the recipe could be shared around considering it is a (not owned by) Warner Bros park... (oh - and dibs on tickets to the australian premiere if they do it at WB again)
  7. Whitsy I was asking those questions rhetorically... i was AGAINST your statements, not for them.
  8. I spoke too soon in the other thread... If in fact they are getting different species in, then i'm all for it. Fairy penguins are common (and I refuse to call them "little" penguins) in just about every marine park in the world. To get some of the more exotic species in a custom habitat would be great. Besides nothing says we can't chuck all the penguins into one enclosure? could be interesting... But saying why would you want more - it's like saying we didn't need shark bay because we had one in a tank down the front, or we didn't need ray reef because we had rays in shark bay...
  9. I am really surprised to be saying this - but I agree with Whitsy ^^^
  10. I know the Gyroswing was intamin, but the majority of info out there was for the giant frisbee, and assumed would work in a similar fashion. The HUSS pirateship is over 30 year old technology however - alternative systems and safeguards would have been developed since then, i would hope...
  11. I'll bet not - i went before June 30, and the upgrade area was pretty busy.
  12. This is the first i've heard of "dueling" aqualoops... adds a little something something to it, don't you think? This means of course that if they try to downsize in the off season - they'll still have to run at least 2.
  13. I think the braking system is magnetic is it not? if so, in theory it could go from full swing to dead stop at ground level relatively quickly. (half a swing?) Most swinging rides generally can stop in one swing or less - i do recall years ago at wonderland on bounty's hearing an e-stop from across the lake (bounty's is a tire drive) and the squealing screeching of the tires was extremely loud... obviously that doesn't apply to the claw, but an e-stop is exactly that - an Emergency... so you would expect it to stop pretty quickly anyhow. I've checked huss' website - they don't list those kinds of specs.... and neither do any of the other usually informative enthusiast websites - not even wiki covers it in any great detail.... so i'm open to hearing anyone "in the know"... (bella i'm looking at you!)
  14. In the mechanical effect section, it refers to changes in blood pressure. This would certainly be the case with "a high speed, physical attraction.... ....rapid acceleration and deceleration, sharp turns......" (weird feeling of deja vu - anyone else think that sounds familiar?)
  15. It wasn't on the cards, but now that you mention it....
  16. Just booked a week in Singapore in August. Should be good. Sole purpose is to check out Sentosa... (and of course, USS). Any news on Battlestar Gallactica?
  17. While we all know the reliability of Wiki - check out mechanical stimulation here: wiki
  18. Just a minor point of clarification \ annoyance for me. The Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feelin' Is the actual title of that song. (And to clarify - Randy i'm not making mention of this to pick at you - I think Gazza was the first to make that error in his review on page 1)
  19. I love the ice cream idea - but... They need to do something about the ropes. a thousand screaming kids all leaning against the blue ropes trying to be the first and loudest person to get an icecream - those poles aren't weighted enough. I was sitting near one of those poles, and at one stage, a whole group of kids leant on the rope, and pulled the pole towards me. Had I not been paying attention, a very heavy steel pole would have connected with me at about eye level. I pointed this out to the "ushers", and they were nice enough to make mention of this to the group of kids - who promptly forgot the warning when lois said she had more ice creams to give away. The poles need a mounting in the street surface - this is the only way to fix the issue - otherwise there is the potential for some pretty costly public liability. Disney have mounting points for their crowd barrier poles - they are quite discreet and unobtrusive - but they are necessary. As to the stairs DjRappa - I used the steps only in passing as to the comparison to disney. I never meant to make as big a deal as it has become. I advocate the parade, and the efforts behind it, and I apologise if anyone has misconstrued my minor critique as a larger issue than I intended.
  20. I'm assuming you're talking about these ones. HSM Pep Rally HSM 3 The difference here is that is more like a mobile stage - it has an intended viewing direction, and an operator behind that doesn't detract so much, because the audience is not intended to see it. Take note of the stairs on the side of these though - themed, and worked into the actual float facade, rather than bolted on as an afterthought. A short step to get them onto the stage platform where they can then walk up through the facade. Another little thought they had was to theme blocks that the cast would stand on "off the float" HSM blocks But the point is they carry their stairs around on the float, and you'd never know they were there, until they were needed, and they weren't huge, bright, reflective checkerplate. I don't want to seem like i'm complaining about the quality of MW's here - they are great, and some of the best stuff i've seen come out of the parks in quite a while - but it's the little things like that. The looney tunes castle float had stairs running forward that were covered in astroturf to theme it like the rest of the float - so somewhere along the line, someone thought of it - but just didn't follow through that thinking on all the other ones.
  21. Definitely made the green cone on the turntable fabulous - but alas the red laser at the end just couldn't cut it. The multi laser isn't really noticeable after the first switchback - they need to bring back the psychotic green lasers... they really filled the room up. As to what wasn't working - the pillars for the big screen both had a par-stubby LED at the bottom of them, to light up the "heroes" and "villains" posters on the front of the pillar. The "villains" one didn't strike in pre-show, so when all the front lighting went UV, the villains was in a bit of shadow. Three guys in blue "film crew" shirts came out and started fiddling. At one stage, they unplugged it, and tried to link out of the "heroes" can on the other side, not sure what happened, but either way - that light was offline for the whole show. Let me just add those smoke machines are a bad idea near the big screen. They would have been better up high, out wide, so it has dispersed a little by the time it hits the crowd. As you have probably guessed, I was sitting up on the corner, in front of the big screen. I also noticed the speaker stacks they've hung from the screen - the left stack has multiple safety cables running around the rigging bars, with one very obvious one coming up from the middle - seems that got left off the right-hand stack... run out of safety's? As for the police lights - take the police academy patrol cars as an example - (there was one on main street today used for a lunchtime batman streetfight..... they go blue-blue-red-red-blue-blue-red-red... with the JL float it was just weird - because it seemed like that was the intent - blue and red lights are the sign of emergency services - the good guys - law and order... the pause just seemed too long - perhaps in sequence, instead of going blue-red-pause, it could go blue-blue-red-red-pause.... so the pause is only half as long as each colour? I keep thinking about it - i was on the corner - with a roof support to my back, and a blue rope right in front of me - so i got a reallllllllly good look at the floats as they swung wide around the corner - and i just can't get over how great they really look - and i just have to keep saying it - I won't put a disney label on it - checkerplate stairs at the back of each just takes away from it - but for their restrictive budget they're SOOOO close. And Gazza - you're right too - the whole "driver in the correct theme" is a nice touch that really does lift it to that next level - a small touch though it is - it just.... works?
  22. Ok - saw it tonight - second time round - few teething problems where some of the lights weren't working, but overall a great show. Check the wind direction if you're up near the main screen - as the smoke machines will cover you completely if you're on the wrong side. About the bakery \ roxy theatre is the best viewpoint. The floats are fantastic - and so fantastic i'll say it again - the floats are FANTASTIC. A good job has been done on them by all involved. My only criticism (and this is the nerdy detail coming out) but the Justice League float has little blue and red led (i assume a continuous snake light) and they are set to flash, I assume to look like a police car's lights - except there is a pause in one - red\blue\pause\red\blue (i know it's picky, but if they were going for "police lights" they need to lose the pause). It has a great story, decent action occurring all the way along the street with great coverage on the big screen. "Jimmy" appears a little too old (in the Superman series, jimmy was always quite a young apprentice reported - this guys about 40). Can't rave about it enough - the only problem I see is that the standard has now been set - they need to keep it up. As for the rest of the park - Scooby's smoke was so good - you could smell it in the loading station. WWF must have been set on summer settings - people were coming off soaked! River ride is disappointing, Marvin's rocket looks like a joke, lethal is rough as guts, but the staff loading were quite efficient. Wait times were long throughout the park but at least the staff brought their A game. In every sense of the word - it's good to have Movie World back on top. 'Nuff said.
  23. Early reports via facebook suggest that the marketing department has done well as the park was packed today. I must admit I haven't seen an ad for it yet - but i've had my head in delivering training for the past two weeks so haven't seen much beyond a training room and a pillow...
  24. Is anyone going to see this new parade tonight? (or if you're reading this tonight - have you seen it?) What are your thoughts? Where is the best position to be to see this? I plan on going tomorrow - so any suggestions on prime position would be welcome. If you did see it - post your reviews - I'm interested to know whether it's worth it.
