Strategies To Shorten Your Queue Time
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to bern1992's topic in Theme Park Discussion
1. take a jar of vegetable stew with you. spill it all over the queue line, make retching noises, and hide the jar before anyone sees it - they'll leave before they even smell it! (note - this is a joke and i don't recommend doing it) 2. don't shower for a week.... smell really bad.... and lean close to those in front of you - cough on them a lot... 3. find a few old bolts, or cogs if you can get them.... talk loudly to your friend in the queue about how you just rode this ride, and look at the cool bolts and stuff you swiped off it 4. scream FIRE! (note - this works well and is very believable on WWWF) 5. dress formally.... suit and tie. walk past everyone in the queue, duck the rails, or take the exit onto the ride. get the operators attention, walk over to them and speak to them quietly... it doesnt matter what you say, you know... ask them the weather... or anything. at the end, point at the queue, say thankyou, and just waltz over and take your place at the front of the queue. most people in the queue will not fuss about it because you look like you're an official of some sort. 6. make a fake id, showing you as a ride inspector. get a badge and everything and put it in a leather flash wallet. walk through the queue, and if anyone complains, flash your badge at them, and tell them to "Stay out of it" 7. become a leper 8. expose yourself to every person in the queue, and keep walking towards them until they get out of the way 9. fart.... particularly in an indoor queue... blame the guy in front of you.... or behind you... 10. bribe the operator.... or the queue line.... -
I am still awaiting a post from Ibot that reads in "plain old english". I spent 5 minutes with a dictionary looking for the meaning of Asussume, reslove, and critisam. I ASSUME that he wants us to RESOLVE our points of CRITICISM with him in private. So does that mean that you are assuming I am jumping to my own conclusion.... *hippocrit* I don't believe anybody laid it down as a statement, nobody ever challenged it as a question... lessons in english will come later - it seems you have a bigger problem to deal with - that being math... there can only be one FIRST.... the one after first is usually SECOND. I never for one minute said it was true, what I said was it SEEMS like you were. Well I could sight the constitution, numerous freedom of speech rights, I could also just spout out that as a member of roller-coaster.com.au, it is my right to post on the forums. I never once stated a fact in my post. I made OBSERVATIONS, which are just that. MY POINT OF VIEW. as with everyone else, I AM ALSO ENTITLED to have my own point of view, and NOBODY can demand that that point of view concur with their own. Right so rather than being a little girl by standing up in a crowd and speak my mind openly, you want me to have guts by secretly talking about it, in private? *CONTRADICTION COUGH COUGH* And to be honest, in my life, I have learnt the benefit of a dead cert. Why risk an 80% chance of success when I can achieve 100% success, and in doing so, find others who support me and my views? I do not doubt for a moment that you have problems. Honestly, I don't know where to start with you... but to give you a helping hand, here is one you can use... ROLLER-COASTER.COM.AU Community Guidelines - a handbook to using the forums correctly, following the rules and generally not getting verbally bashed by those members who might find your childish, but poor nettiquette absolutely revolting. But also, just in case you need to go back to basics even further than the community guidelines, might I suggest this site as a starting point to get your language skills back up to speed... HELP FOR IBOT CAN BE FOUND HERE Notice that I also did not resort to a single obscenity, or profanity, I got my point across, and I didnt use "*****" either. (which coincidentally is also not permitted under the guidelines). Until Next Time, Alex.

i didnt see the point of creating a new thread for this, but i just want to make the following observations: The quality of posts coming from ibot seems about the same as ol NightShifter... bussy you will remember this guy I think? Now is it just me, or does ibot seem like a little 11 year old wannabe coming up with absolute drivel? And finally, am I the only one groaning in frustration and utter annoyance at these posts? Theres my two cents....

okay guys, as many of you know I am a photographer. I need to come up with a T-shirt that says photographer on the back of it for a few events I have planned soon, and I want to tie it in with roller coasters, the thrill industry and such. essentially on the front, i wanna put a catchy slogan thing on the front that ties in with both photography and the thrill industry. something like Superman's promo of 0-100km/h in 2 seconds, but less ride-specific, more thrill-in-general, but I want it to tie both with thrill and with photography as well. the best I have been able to come up with (which is really really crap) is: "upside down, 3 times the force of gravity, over 100km/h..... sheer terror captured on film" And i wanna know what you guys can come up with. My deadline is short, as I need to have several of these made up in time for Sydney's biggest thrill event - the Royal Easter Show.... and I will need at least 5 days to have it produced..... so.......... GIVE ME YOUR IDEAS!!!!!!!!

Have A Dreamworld Interview This Week
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Gold Coaster's topic in Theme Park Discussion
all i can say is this: REMEMBER THE PLACE THAT YOU WILL BE WORKING IN WHEN YOU ARE IN THAT INTERVIEW. If possible, i would suggest going into the park prior to the interview. watch the operators, and talk to the ones who seem really happy (if they are able to whilst working that is...). Above all, in the interview, be happy, enthusiastic, and above all, have no qualms about embarassing yourself in a nice way if the group interview gives you the opportunity. Bottom line is this is a THEME park. although these days most theme parks have drifted from the "disneyesque" style, but typically a person more angled towards "living the dream" will be more likely to gain the position. -
SMH Article today -Disney looking at western suburbs...
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Skipper's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Oh Crap..... tries to restrain bussy but it is too late....... on a few points - the land IS indeed zoned industrial, so a commercial business such as a disney park would not be able to build. Also - the areas bussy was talking about there are places that won't move aside for a theme park. Bussy was talking about them as being obstacles..... *steps out of the way just in time for the Wonderbus to come roaring through .... kick ass bussy....* -
That's cool mate. Its quite alright, particularly with new members, as they sometimes aren't directed immediately to the guidelines. The only other complaint I have is a SPACE after your fullstops... thanks!
-
Peters, as this is the first time I have seen you around the forums, I am only presuming you are fairly new - so first off welcome to the forums! Can I kindly ask you to take a trip over to the community guidelines section of this forum (found under the FAQ) and read them through. Your posts are quite disjointed, and poorly laid out, which makes for difficult reading, and I'm sure a lot of our other members would be as appreciative as I would be, if you could make the effort to type and spell properly. Thanks, and welcome again, Alex.

toilet breaks were permitted as was a lunch break, but it was timed, and if you weren't back in your seat at the end of the time, the train departed, and you missed out. I wasn't aware that the contestants had to sleep in the carriages overnight however. THAT would have been uncomfortable. After the motions of the day, I wonder how late they stayed up, being that maintenance would generally awaken them at 6am. it was a good promotion, although the exposure wasn't too high outside of MMM FM.

the weekend of May 20th is already booked for me and my fiance. we're spending a weekend there with full plans to go to WBMW to ride Superman - so all the better if we can meet up with the group! Out of curiosity Richard, do you think movieworld would consider something like what ACE get in the US? any special offers, deals, or *gasp* lockout or pre-opening\post-closure access at all? If we could get the numbers, surely Warner Village would be open to giving us a Half Hour on Superman... Or Scooby... or even Lethal? to just cycle away... All we would need would be a train full... or two. "Dear Guests, Superman: Escape will be closing at 4:30pm today for a private function. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, but you're not a true enthusiast anyway - or you would be attending the function... so you can get screwed while we support those who religiously support us. Should you wish to discuss this further, a statue of bugs bunny will be located outside in the middle of the bruce highway. (is my geography right?) Any guest able to reach the statue without being pancaked by a semi may feel free to file a complaint. Regards, Warner Village." I suppose its just a matter of how much Warner Village thinks of Total Thrills and R-C......

New Ride destined for Luna Park a first for Australia!
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Jobe's topic in Theme Park Discussion
took another trip out to LPS on wednesday - and its disappointing what they have done to the extreme speed machine. It has apparently (according to an operator) been "toned down". They are now charging $10 per ride, or pay an extra $10 on top of your unlimited rides pass for unlimited rides on ESM. Whereas my initial ride pre-christmas was a good 3-3.5 minutes, with 3-4 direction changes, the new "toned down" version runs for less than 2 minutes, changes direction once, and half that time is spent not moving while they load at the other end. Very disappointing Luna Park... Very Disappointing. I look forward to seeing this one make the rounds at homebush bay when it might (hopefully) be running full tilt once again. -
Wasn't Best Western Pavillions on Katella Ave, next to denny's by any chance? I've stayed there, its cheap, but damn nice.... Wonderland Used to do that a long time ago. There are numerous hazards to that though, including people mingling in the exit to attempt to reload without requeueing, not to mention hazards of personal property, and too many people to keep an eye on for the operators... In wonderland - running one-op operation, it is just too unsafe for that sort of thing, and most of the other attractions around australia would require an increase in loaders, unloaders and operators to make that work. Yes it would most likely increase the capacity of our rides, but at the expense of wages, i can't see our parks doing that...

New Ride destined for Luna Park a first for Australia!
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Jobe's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The only objection to this argument (a good one by the way) is that luna park is not a themed amusement park. it is strictly a spin and spew style park with rides to chuck you around, and none of them are much better than your typical easter show attraction. Coney Island and the Rotor are really the only fixed rides, and Rotor has been relocated from its previous position anyhow. Let's leave theming to the theme parks, and let luna park continue with its typical standard of low budget, low themed carnival rides.... that is not a bad thing, before anyone gets their back up - because that is luna park's heritage. to put in a ride like say - superman or claw would be completely beyond the scope of what luna park is trying to do, and Peter Hearne has also stated the same sort of thing. When in an interview regarding the closure of Wonderland, he stated that it is such a shame that Sydney is unable to support a single themed thrill amusement park. -
with more than 100 threads since the park closed, countless news items on and after the day, and so many other happenings like the octiva site, would you believe i didnt know the park was closed until pattie broke the news to me today......

i think a fastpass idea would be better. each guest is issued a ticket at the gates that has a barcode on it. OR to participate in fastpass, you BUY a plastic swipe card with a unique barcode. at the end of the day you return the pass and receive part of the purchase price back. this way only those interested in priority queuing would have to pay extra, and it also means the park can control the amount of priority queuers there are. One you have your ticket\card, you go to a small booth outside the rides associated with the pass. each barcode has an account that can have only a certain number of rides allocated to it. You could either select your preferred timeslot, or have it randomly allocated to you, with this being handled by the park back of house based on ride times, queue lengths etc through out the day. i know i am basically describing fastpass in the US, but with a few extra twists to adapt and control the system here in Aus.... what do you think of paying a little extra fee - say $20, for the fastpass plastic card, and receive back $10 when you return the card at the end of the day?
-
actually, there are a lot of ex-cast and ex-regular-guests that have talked over a "reunion" of sorts. I'd be interested if someone could get something like that off the ground.

What attractions would you like to see?
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
hell yes i would agree to that one! Dreamworld... paying attention? Well most of my ideas for the park have been said. Lazy River concept is a good one, however logistics of having a "split river" where it goes many different ways, makes it difficult when dealing with pumps and water currents and the like, and i dont think theres going to be that much room to go crazy with them. All of our wishlists need to take into account the space DW will have to accomplish this. I also think that going with anything like mammoth will appear to be copycatting WnW and now SW, so i think a different direction or product offering a similar thrill would be better. My Wishlist for DWWP The good old Speed Slide and Freefall. God they're a must! The wavepool has been announced, and thats a given. I think it would be good if the wavepool, instead of ending in a beachline like WnW, instead narrowed up at the mouth, went under a bridge, and fed into the lazy river system, or the "Tropical Bayou" - a tidal controlled lake fed from the wavepool of varying depth with a sandy bottom. It would be a party atmosphere, with poolside bar for the adults, where you can laze about in inflatables, sipping a drink, with beachside shores all around where families can picnic, observing the little ones or taking a dip themselves. For those familiar with Riverside in Brisbane (the old expo park) there is a similar concept to this with a series of tidal pools, all sandy bottom and of varying depths. the only difference here is that the entire lake would be a little bigger, covered in rainforest style trees so that the sun dapples through the leaves - a great place to relax when its hot, and you can swim without worrying too much about sunburn. This would be another opportunity for dreamworld to hire out as a function area, with decking and a bar overlooking the lake, and party lights and whatnot strung between the trees. A nice soundsystem, working with, but separated from the rest of the DWWP sound system would mean that the area could be isolated for private functions, with their own music\microphone etc. Now i tried to google a pic of what im talking about but i can't find a single one. On the private party angle, or just plain public usage - i would LOVE to see DWWP put in a Waltzing Waters attraction. This is purely eye-candy, and has nothing to do with actually riding it... I stumbled onto their site recently, and have since downloaded their samples and requested a DVD from them - and i can tell you their product is STUNNING. If Dreamworld wanna talk world class - these guys are the bomb... Disney, Universal, Paramount and Six Flags have all used these guys. If Dreamworld intends on doing anything at night to combat WnW, then I have to say that Waltzing Waters would be a must. Doing dive in movies has been done, so thats just a come on, but what about Dive-In dance party? if they dont do the waltzing waters in the Bayou - what about it being mounted at the front of the wave pool - be an awesome addition to the dance party.... as far as other attractions, i'm not fussed, so long as we have some HIGH CAPACITY slides - like the 4 slides WnW have, but faster, higher capacity, and a little better themed -
well, actually i think somewhere in the community guidelines it says something about political correctness, or sexual discrimination, or something.... but i'm not really fussed. I'm just glad pattieboi got caught out YET AGAIN.
-
thanks for that paul, i've been racking my brain over the name of Funland in Ulladulla... on top of the dodgems, the cha cha, and the million and one arcade and redemption games, they also had a pretty cool slot car track.
-
i think you DID literally say he said something on camera.
-
as usual, pattiboi gets caught out bull****ting again

New Ride destined for Luna Park a first for Australia!
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Jobe's topic in Theme Park Discussion
ok i now have high-res still shots (originally film) of the extreme speed machine and i will be posting them as soon as i get them watermarked. If you would like prints, enlargements (even framed), I will be offering this in the near future for this and many other photos thrill-related. -
New Ride destined for Luna Park a first for Australia!
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Jobe's topic in Theme Park Discussion
oh yeah... amazingly, while riding, it felt like one came close enough to jump into the apartments. we could see straight into their rooms, and every detail. Ill keep this G rated, but there was something worth looking at in one of the rooms! I dont see the noise issue with the ranger, and honestly, my shouts and screams while on the extreme speed machine were the loudest noise coming from the park... I bet the residents are loving this ride over the summer... -

no problemo. As an afterthought, I have already posted the camera used, so no one better complain about the quality, and since i knocked it up in 5 minutes, nobody better complain about the editing either. anyhow, enjoy!
