Movie world Maintenance 2022
Obviously the reservoir has a minimum operating level for pump operations. But it should also have capacity beyond that as running it at minimums is just asking for trouble. Water would be lost from the ride every day through the various measures I mentioned above. Having a range that it can fluctuate within means you can manage your levels a bit better than adding water today and then pouring it down the drain tomorrow when it rains. For the same obvious reason, they'd clearly have a maximum level, and an automatic drain to stormwater\sewer\detention basin if it exceeds that. What I meant was after all that rain, it may have needed some level of attention (filtering, balancing levels etc), and perhaps pumping some of it out to reduce it from 'max level' (but still some ways above 'min level') may have helped do that (why add chemicals to balance your max level if you can use less chemicals in a smaller volume of water?) As for troughs, I wasn't referring to the 'back half' as I clearly referred to what was visible in the pictures. In the 'front half' the pumps don't "control" the level (they do ensure enough water is there to achieve it) - the fact that the level is the height of the trough, and any excess spills out into the lagoon, that is what controls the level.

Movie world Maintenance 2022
In the lagoon or in the flume? Was the ride operating in January during your visit? The Flume trough levels shown above are fairly set as any overflow spills over into the lagoon - it's not possible for them to vary much and these pics indicate the trough is full. If it's the lagoon, I can only imagine that the exact level doesn't matter too much, as long as it doesn't overflow when the pumps are turned off. The amount of water in the lagoon would vary a lot - evaporation, being carried out in the clothing of riders, leaks in the lagoon, as well as rain catchment and runoff. The recent rains we've had up here probably increased the levels significantly, and that may have prompted them to adjust the levels back to normal ranges.

Luna park 9 new rides construction
I heard they closed the park yesterday without warning or announcement 3 hours after opening. A large group of school kids on a visit basically got turfed out. Not sure if it was weather or just a quiet day so they decided to pull the pin, but what's the bet their casual staff have a 3 hour minimum shift?

Leviathan Construction Updates
Being bad at communication and being bad at project management aren't that far away from each other. It's interesting that another Gravity Group \ Martin & Vleminckx collaboration, listed with a March 2020 manufacture date opened in May of 2021. That's around a 14 month build time (And by a park that was building FIVE new rollercoasters that same year) Side note - that last link was an IAAPA article about coasters opening in 2021, so there were a lot of different parks and manufacturers listed including: Bombay Express - Dubai - GCI - Still Under Construction Boomerang - Sydney - Gerstlauer - Opened October 2021 Fly With Flap - Doha - Extreme Engineering - Opened 2021 Jersey Devil Coaster - New Jersey - RMC - Opened June 2021 Kondaa - Belgium - Intamin - Opened May 2021 Leviathan - Gold Coast - Gravity Group \ M&V - Still Under Construction Monster - Sweden - B&M - Opened June 2021 Now You See Me - Dubai - Maurer - Opened January 2022 Phoenix - New York - Vekoma - Opened July 2021 Power Coaster - Tennessee - Wiegand - Opened March 2021 Steel Taipan - Gold Coast - Mack Rides - Opened December 2021 Tidal Twist - Ohio - Zamperla - Opened July 2021 Wooden Dragons - Shandong China - Gravity Group \ M&V - Opened May 2021 I guess what we can take from this is wooden coasters sometimes take longer to build?

Leviathan Construction Updates
18 months ago we were still within the early days of the pandemic. things are recovering, of course. But this all ignores the fact that this project was planned prior to that, and most of their plans would have been solid prior to covid, given how soon after we saw parts arrive and work commence. Sure, the supply chain might have lengthened a bit but they're not going to the back of the queue - they were at the front when covid hit. I do not accept that this can be SOLELY attributed to global supply chain delays and raw material availability, which is how it is presented. If they made the decision to put a hold on orders while they figured things out, and then when they asked to come off hold they found out 5000 other people had leapfrogged them, then that's on them - but thats project management, not supply chain.

Gumbuya World 2 coasters under construction
2022 seems to be the year of the confectionery coaster! haha! I like the idea of the green tree snake, but I hope it isn't called Steel Python - there's too much "steel" naming going on these days for my tastes. Quick Search Results (rcdb.com)

Gumbuya World 2 coasters under construction
I figured this needs it's own thread rather than being buried in the retirement thread. Took a squizz at nearmap this morning and while most of the parts are still sitting in an industrial estate at Pakenham, a lone piece of track has shown up in Gumbuya World, which i'm pretty certain is Skyloop track... except it's GREEN! Looks like a new theme for it's new home - let the speculation begin - what could they theme it like?

Dreamworld's New Look Train
That might open them all at once, but they’ll still need to be closed, and for safety reasons, checked by the conductor even if a guest has already closed it. (pray that they aren’t like Taipan requiring an RFID scan within a few seconds of closing or the train will never move)

Dreamworld's New Look Train
They point out the carriages have lockable gates, and zooming in it looks like individual gates for each row. shorter route but longer loading time perhaps?

February 2022 Weather Event
I've just left home to pick up my son from school early due to the weather, and in the time between when I left home and came back, the major road between us and the school went completely underwater. I know we've seen weather events impact the parks and flood - in particular the movie world carpark, but also WNW, and the parks have announced closures previously - but I haven't seen anything today about them and just wondering if anyone has seen pictures or updates of what the parks are like today? (obviously i'm not going to the park, just curious what its like - i was quite surprised the parks elected to open today considering the ongoing forecast...)

Leviathan Construction Updates
On that same page is a link to the Leviathan Construction blog. Here's how we got to where we are now: May 2019 - VRTP Announces plans to build New Atlantis September 2020 - Slab in place October 2020 - Leviathan's foundation is 'almost' complete, early work commenced on lift hill November 2020 - we get a close up look at one of the ride's turns December 2020 - Leviathan tops out with the highest point being erected December 2020 - Vortex opens March 2021 - Final timber frame - number 660 - to be installed in the coming days ... ??? - Opening Date Announced Late 2021 ??? - Opening Date moved to Easter 2022 February 2022 - Opening Date moved to September 2022 Let's be real here, Leviathan was originally slated to open in "Late 2020" so it's more than 18 months late Even if you give them a year to account for the uncertainy of covid - it's still delayed by 3/4 of a year. Vortex was slated to open before the end of 2019 - so they don't even get to use COVID as an excuse for that one, and it opened an entire year late. Meanwhile, Trident is pushing 2 years late and counting.
