Now you're being deliberately obtuse. You know I haven't been on it. But when it's biggest fans are saying 'don't ride this during opening hours' its fair to say it's got problems.

Dreamworld’s BuzzSaw is Retiring
First of all - your two posts here are replying to the same person. You've assured me on the one hand you have thicker skin but then returned to fly off the handle? So let's just clear a few things up. I'm not an admin. Parkz Crew is a member subscription. You support the site, you get a few extra forum features. You've been a member here since '04, and you've drifted in and out several times over the years - one would assume you've been paying at least some attention - you're not getting banned for disagreeing with moderators here - shit - i'd have been gone long ago if that was the case. As for the 10M loss - That's my bad as I thought it cost $10m and I should have checked. It cost $7M, so i'll just amend my original comment to a $7M loss. Buzz never proved to be popular. It's fair to say they didn't get the return on investment they expected. They're selling it now - with extras - for around $250k. I'm sure it made them something back on their investment, but overall it wasn't profitable Especially given how much of it's operating life was spent closed. (Fun fact - if you go over your previous posts, you'll find a post where you called for Buzzsaw to be removed when it was only 4 years old) And you're very much entitled to share that opinion, just as we are entitled to share ours. The facts however make out differently, and you cannot change that either. Buzz is gone and clearly wasn't worth staying (or it would have). TOT is gone and clearly wasn't worth staying (or it would have). Gold Coaster on the other hand IS staying for a bit longer, and clearly WAS worth staying - so it did... #Peace

No more charlft at Adventure World
I think a lot of people don't care. I can quote you Superman's G forces, but only because the queue video repeats it interminably. I don't care what the stats say, I want to ride a ride, it should be fun, enjoyable, and not something that I get off wondering how many visits i'm going to need at the chiropractors. Between @iwerks and @Tim Dasco you guys are the biggest proponents of AW - and you're both saying that it's better to ride it when the ride isn't hot - by riding at night or first thing in the morning - two times of day that are in short supply in a typical operating season (night events are special, infrequent and park opens at 10, so you're already approaching heat of day). Australia's operating environment is typically the 9-5 window. If the ride is going to be 'more shit' during that window... it's fair to say its shit. If I buy a solar panel, and the internal control hardware overheats at 20 degrees and shuts down, it's not a very effective solar panel for the Australian sun.

Steel Taipan Construction - Dreamworld Mack launched roller coaster
I feel like you're not reading for understanding. The ride was not built for another park. A build slot was reserved for another park, which then withdrew. The slot became available, and Dreamworld was able to get a head start on the manufacturer's waitlist - jumping the queue, if you will. Build price comparisons aren't always a great tool. Even converting currency rates needs to be done with a mind of the time passed - but even without currency exchange, simply shipping the ride out to Aus, and building using Australia's labour union workforce increases the costs significantly more than transporting and building a similar attraction in Europe or North America.

Yeah but shouldn't an 8 year old coaster be doing far better than a 20 year old second hand and 25 year old second train coaster? Judging by other's comments, it sounds like its a fault of the ride type. By comparison, Vekoma and Arrow seem to be holding up pretty well around the world for their age.

Dreamworld’s BuzzSaw is Retiring
As I understand it, the control systems were the reason for the closure. As one of the earlier builds, they were outdated and too costly to update. Newer SLCs had updated systems and neither plays well with the other. That's my understanding anyway. You are allowed to have a differing opinion, so apologies if my response have come across that way. You are definitely in the minority regarding buzz though - but I suppose if we all liked the same thing it'd be a pretty boring place. Fingers crossed you get your trip, and hopefully Magic Springs doesn't keep you from celebrating your 53rd milestone. (in other words, I hope you don't die).

I knew you'd have written about it but couldn't find your blog site. Strangely Pirouettes sticks with me though. Certainly does.

ROFLMAO. In today's culture i'm not sure if that's still appropriate language, but either way its been SO DAMN LONG since I've heard\seen anyone use this phrase! Thanks for the flashback Gazza!

Dreamworld’s BuzzSaw is Retiring
2015 it was unexpectedly shut down when the primary restraint system failed and the restraint was only held by the secondary safety system. Still safe, but not ideal - and while i'm sure there are cases out there, I have personally not heard of any others. I didn't conveniently miss anything. Your primary statement was "waaaah, keep ride i like, get rid of ride I hate... or at least spend millions changing it to how I want it when it's already over 25 years old just because I said so". They just poured money into a refresh and refurb of Gold Coaster. It is CLEARLY worth the additional investment for the expected additional life remaining. On the flip side - they're eating a $10M loss on Buzz - despite as you point out having loads of parts and spares - because it is clearly not a feasible decision. Yeah I didn't consider a single loop of track to be 'full' anything. But you do make a good point and i think the closest we can get to an answer is this coasterforce conversation that concluded it wasn't a full circuit or a shuttle but a 'hybrid'. Full circuit shuttle coasters definition | FORUMS - COASTERFORCE I would define a full circuit coaster as having several elements throughout the course. Buzzsaw has one. Let's break it down: Hangtime on the lift The lift is terrifying till you clear it Then you get an awesome shuttle section that leaves your guts at the top Not to mention the roll at the top upside down lift hill heartline roll (at the top) full speed shuttle section (on other coasters we call that "the first drop") And you still want to tell me it's not a one-trick pony? Maybe try looking it up. It literally goes up, does a single twist, and comes down. And this board is FILLED with people describing buzz as PRECISELY that definition. So even if you still disagree, you're in the minority. Enjoy Magic Springs.

Buzz Saw Harness Does Exactly What It's Supposed to Do
Random question for @Noxegon but re-reading this topic, i'm wondering if you ever DID get that credit? Oof. I'll just show myself out. Yeah - apologies for the mega bump - but there's a few regular posters on the forums here that should re-read this entire four page thread - a lot has changed in 6 years.

By all accounts, the park couldn't make the payments rather than rejecting the ride. I don't think that should reflect poorly on the ride itself. Not to mention, I believe it was just a SLOT they couldn't pay for. This ride design \ type \ special features weren't necessarily part of the previous agreement as far as i'm aware.

Dreamworld’s BuzzSaw is Retiring
So - you think its a good idea to keep a ride that is long established as a 'one trick pony' that has had numerous issues with safety systems and maintenance, but you think they should get rid of a full circuit, classic attraction - an Arrow custom looper that (as was recently said elsewhere on Parkz) would probably qualify as an ACE classic if it was in North America, simply because it wasn't specifically designed for the site?

I derive more enjoyment from going to a park with friends and family than I do from any rollercoaster. I'd rather spend a day walking the park in good company and not riding a single thing than to go by myself. And for the last time - at the current price offering, dreamworld does not offer me enough to make me want to buy tickets and come back as they do not offer enough for me and my family to warrant a return. It will, eventually, I am sure of that. AND i'm sure that Metal Snake will be there when we finally do. I will probably visit before then to go with friends visiting from out of town, once this border shit is done with, but in the interim I have no desire to go dropping a wad, or leaving everyone else behind to go by myself, that's my choice, my prerogative, my opinion and nobody else has to like it or agree with it. The ONLY thing that will change my mind at present is a reduction to the overall cost of entry. Once they've fixed up a few things and improved their offering, i'm sure that will change.

Covid safety information is fine. It's how you present it. The VRTP app is a requirement of entry but it isn't 'keeping queensland safe' - the QLD covid safety app is doing that and is also a requirement for entry so the VRTP app is no longer a 'safety' thing its a 'cost' thing. But that isn't my issue. The Sea World marquee - the entrance portal through which families can go on their magical escape into another world... isn't even used anymore (for most guests). Instead, passholders (the vast majority of visitors) are directed through a dingy little side entrance and funneled past a shitty greenscreen, all the while holding up the flow of guests trying to enter the park to make a buck, before finally greeting guests with a turnstile arrangement made up of mobile wheeled portable scanning devices. Dreamworld, Movie World, Wet N Wild, even White Water World - all of these parks take you in the front door. THIS is the type of memory I have of Sea World - almost every person I know who has visited Sea World at some point in it's life has this style of shot. Now this is what you get instead: It's busy, its messy, it's clearly not being used for its original purpose based on all the temporary barriers and cables and shit run everywhere. The front entrance plaza needs a solid redevelopment - and right now, it needs it more than it needs a skyflyer.

Get in with a too-good-to-be-true $50 annual pass to Dreamworld before Steel Taipan opens
Because i'm looking for more than a 2 minute ride for my $100. (cue @New display name in 3... 2...). Because the number of times i've visited ANY park in the past 2 years, I can count on one hand, and while I pay by the month for Village, i'm not prepared to dump $400+ to take my household to Dreamworld just so that I can ride one rollercoaster. I'm happy to wait. it's not going anywhere. Why rush?

Are we starting to see the decline of VRTP?
^I'm just going to drop this here, in case it was overlooked. Location: Boost is occupying prime real estate in the middle of main street. Showbags are occupying a dead zone behind the main street plaza. Precedent: Yes! Movie world has placed some VERY well themed Ambulance vans selling bloodbags and food stalls with appropriate signage out the front. Boost isn't this. There's not even an attempt at trying to theme it as 'on location catering van at movie set'. Dreamworld have sold showbags before. This looks better than when Dreamworld did it. Theme: The overall "fit" for the country fair can accommodate showbags. There is nothing in main street that screams 'Australian Smoothie Bar' I've been very clear i'm no Dreamworld fan boy. I don't think either of them belongs in the park, but as I said above i'd cut slack to the showies purely because they've had a really bad two years - but I still stand by the fact that out of the two, Boost is the worst look and fit, and the showbags at least kinda do.

Luna park 9 new rides construction
My guess is, (especially since some of the new rides have an on-ride photo system) that its probably a photo shop... with a green screen in it.

That's what happens when you don't have any competition. It's why Adventure World now has three different tiers of Season Pass offering various benefits including blockout dates ranging from $179 to $299

Get in with a too-good-to-be-true $50 annual pass to Dreamworld before Steel Taipan opens
While they have their 'full price' tickets priced above $99, I still think of $99 as "full price" when it comes to dreamworld because they've done nothing to increase the value - only the cost. I think i've been very clear over the past couple of weeks that ST probably isn't enough to bring me back to the park right now: As I said above, the $50 price tag easily tipped the scales over to make the decision easy, but back at $100 - that's $400 to shell out essentially to ride ONE ride - and not everyone in our group can ride it. And sure, i'm a theme park fan, no doubt. I'm keen to ride it. I just can't justify it solely to ride it first. Buzzsaw lasted 10 years. I'm sure Taipan will still be there in 6 months to a year when the offering (or the company) improves.
