  1. Ok, I don't disagree with you that LPS needs to drop in some larger additions - but pooh-poohing the issues people have cited as to why it taken them so long I think is off the mark. Yes, they screwed up with Hair Raiser - but it showed (after they went through all the correct motions to have it approved), that there was a lot more leg work to get it ticked off than the standard time we see for GC parks or even the overseas seaside parks you refer to. Despite the legal rulings, the residents continue to raise concerns and complaints at any and every stage or change. And despite the precedent set by the previous court rulings, new issues bring new arguments that all must be considered against the prior case law. All of this takes time. If I were the developer, i'd regard all that angst as being 'not worth the effort' of building something more substantial... so I don't blame them, honestly, even though I agree they need a bit of a refresh.
  2. 38 here too, and i'll agree with you - the mid 90's was the time. Demon's arrival on the back of the hill had the park abuzz. In addition, Sea World was just about to open Bermuda, the train still ran, and the ski show was showing at least twice daily. I think Sea World was improved by Dolphin Cove and Shark Bay - but I also think this was the start of the park becoming a choking mess. For Movie World, LTRR still stood along with PASS, and the ShowStage and SFX stage still ran too. Superman is kick ass, but it is saddening what had to go for it to be built - I would have liked to have seen them refresh the SFX show with more modern films. Kitschy though it is, the Young Einstein gravity homestead was a clever little attraction for such a young park. MW can stretch a couple years later to include Wild West too. I think Dreamworld peaked a little later, after the introduction of ToT and GD, although I didn't get to visit back in the mid 90's when I hit the other parks on the coast (wonderland was my local). I did get to ride thunderbolt, although it was old by then and I assume had gotten rougher over the years. I never saw pre-nickelodeon dreamworld so I can't judge that period. Wet N Wild was fun in the mid-90s, but i think the early 2000's, with the install of Mammoth, Calypso and Extreme H20 were it's prime.
  3. Cost of hotel quarantine could be drastically reduced for Sea World though - they could easily guarantee quarantine at SWR, and minimal cost - stick the guys in the presidential rooms... done!
  4. Nearmap has done another flyover of the gold coast at the beginning of August: Dreamworld - 5 August The coaster parts all stacked up ToTs track all cleared up Progress on the Sidewinder paintjob Site overview Movie World - 1 August Site Overview Scooby's overflow queue West has been completely drained Wet N Wild - 1 August Surfrider board sits behind Wild West Falls Mach 5 continues to rot Whirlpool Springs has polished up... as well as it can. Site overview Sea World - 1 August Not much has changed since the last update at Vortex and Leviathan Leviathans wood pile in the carpark Viking's continues to rot. Site Overview
  5. I've thought about this a bit. Dreamworld needs this coaster to open. Desperately. Sea World on the other hand doesn't NEED Vortex to operate - its a flat. A good flat, but still a flat. Opening in due course - or even together with Leviathan will probably have the same impact as if they opened it now. Dreamworld dropping $30m kinda warrants a few extra thousand to pay for quarantine and commissioning in order to get that ride open ASAP. Just have to wait and see what happens with borders and restrictions yet...
  6. Hey hang on a minute.... I'm very much not in the 'dreamworld can do no wrong camp' and have stated many times I prefer Village over Dreamworld. This illustrates just how hard you guys are going on 'beating down pro-dreamworld sentiment'. What, exactly is the issue with what i've said? I've made comparisons to Village \ Movie World in numerous dot points, but everything is pretty factual - please tell me which of them isn't a reasonable comparison? As for the coaster count - thats fair. It has however been long stated that Dreamworld kills Movie World on the flat front, so the ride count still available is vastly different. There is still plenty to do for most demographics at Dreamworld with Sidewinder and Buzz down. Movie World's image wasn't helped by the fact that Arkham was still on their 'maintenance list' instead of just being removed entirely too.
  7. Annual passholders received a 208 day extension to their pass expiry Rides retired are officially announced instead of being SBNO for 8-9 months without word from the park (and Flowrider was a low throughput attraction to be taking up prime real estate in OP) 3 major attractions won't be operating on opening - Sidewinder (painting), Buzz (coaster construction) and train (botched entirely). No other huge swaths of 'down for annual maintenance' like we saw with Movieworld, so the suggestion that they were getting maintenance done in their extended closure seems to be accurate The other 'experience' based attractions are closed as distancing and hygiene are harder to manage. Rick's was a similar reason I believe? Seasonal waterpark operations which have long been suggested for WnW also and probably a wise move all-round (for both companies) A reduced pass price for locals (non locals probably aren't coming right now anyway) is also a nice concession (although probably needed with all of the ride removals recently). I'd have liked to have seen Village do similar - especially when so much was closed. Proof is in the pudding and it will remain to be seen whether they sustain this post-opening week (after which, we saw Village cut back a lot due to low visitation), but on paper it looks like a much better way to return to operations.
  8. why did Rappa remove the chocolate? i was looking forward to that!
  9. I think 'cahoots' is probably overdoing it. Why? Rappa makes no secret of his bias. Why should anyone else pretend anything?
  10. before any UNsecured creditors, yes. But a secured liability gives the debtor the right to take possession of the secured asset before any dividends are paid.
  11. They technically were handed cash - it was in the form of refunds of fees that were already paid Divided up roughly between the two major carriers, that's still $80 million each back on the balance sheet.
  12. What sort of positions were actually made redundant? does anyone know? like we're debating whether the park could operate without them and\or whether they could be easily filled - but i only know of one specific position... what were the other 49?
  13. Yeah - I can see them going to that extent to commission a coaster, not a flat.
  14. What is it secured against though? The land? The assets? The entire company? The state gov would have a PR disaster if the worker entitlement creditors received nothing because the loan captured the entire value of the park.
  15. These emojis just look evil
  16. I think you underestimate how lending works. ever heard of a balance transfer? they could do that and book a few first class tickets to London with the bonus reward miles...
  17. Dude, if you stop sucking the lemon, you probably wouldn't be so bitter. Anyone would think you've got some sort of personal vendetta.
  18. The 'break it up and sell off the pieces' mentality isn't the status quo anymore. As @CaptainLazerGuns suggested above, its more a case of acquiring something that is liquid capital poor, leverage against the asset to obtain financing to improve the product, and then flip it for more than you bought it for. There are pump-and-dump book shuffling, such as we saw with Dick Smith, where they over extended the value by some creative bookkeeping, but due to the public nature of that particular implosion, that method won't escape due diligence checks from buyers in the future. Anyone claiming that Ardent received funds of $70 Million simply because they're potentially going to be fined $4.5 Million needs to go back to third grade mathematics.
  19. It doesn't change when you turn 12 either.
  20. Nah - that's at Movie World.
  21. Give Theme Parks A Go Go a call - they can stock it with all of Joz's favourite flashy crap!
