  1. Ban on gatherings of 500 people applies to outdoor events. Indoor events are now banned over 100 people. ScoMo mentioned this even applied to churches etc... Essential services are not subject to the ban, and include public transport stations, airports, hospitals etc. Total travel ban level 4 (do not travel) has now been applied worldwide - first time this has happened. Other restrictions apply to aged care facilities. I now look forward to hearing from our gold coast parks how even these measures do not apply to them. I'm also looking forward to hearing from several parkz members about how this is just more media beatup and overkill. (its more fun to quote them a few days later when they're proven wrong).
  2. Constructing and hanging a screen (LED or projection) isn't a 1 hour job. You'd be closing substantial parts of main street for at least the day prior and after the event as a minimum.
  3. Why should they close, when no cases have been linked to the park? Answer: Because they can prevent any cases being linked to the park. No-one is screaming at the airlines to close Answer: Airlines are a necessary service for transporting people and cargo - including essential supplies, medicines, and even doctors who need to be moved to where they are needed most. The advice is restrict unnecessary travel. (And the same applies to public transport). Local pub has the same numbers, and the government said its ok to go to the cinema? Answer: I get it. It's tough when your mouth shoots faster than your brain. Isolate yourself. If everyone just stayed the fuck home for a couple of weeks we'd have a handle on this. It's those who don't give a shit who have caused this to expand exponentially to a point where governments are now requiring businesses to restrict or cease their operations. TL:DR - If assholes like you weren't so fucking selfish, we potentially wouldn't be in this mess that you're now complaining about. We are a global society. Humanity means to care for those of our society who cannot care for themselves. Because everyone deserves to live the best life than they can. Because 20% of those who get this will be hospitalised, but if the 80% don't give a shit, and infect our doctors, and nurses, and medical professionals, there will be nobody to care for the 20%, and instead of a 3% mortality rate we'll be looking at higher than 20%. Go back and look at what happens to society when 20% of the population disappears. A lack of social norm leads to increase in crime - because people can't get toilet paper and food so they break into houses and steal it, and get so desperate that if you try to stop them breaking into your house they hit you over the head with a shovel. You'll give a shit then - when there is no ambulance to pick you up. You'll give a shit then when the life slowly ebbs from your worthless body, and your sphincter relaxes for the final time, and 99% of the contents of the sack of shit that is Hiisi will escape through your colon. Then, you will have given a shit.
  4. I think we’ve concluded movie world doesn’t understand what projection mapping is. nek minnit, Main Street is levelled and replaced with white box facades. It could be done if they wanted to. Beams supported from behind the facades could be constructed. It’s expensive, and it’s only to benefit aesthetic, so it won’t happen, but I think the talk of removing the poles just demonstrates how badly they fucked up by putting them in in the first place, and how they should have mounted them behind the buildings like USS or TDL.
  5. Mate, we already have treatment for mental health, and there are many examples of financial assistance being provided with more rumoured to be on the way. There's no treatment currently for this virus. So let's contain it until we know more about it, hey? Everyone is feeling this in some way right now. Allowances are going to be made. As callous as it is to say, if someone can't weather a 2 week out of work period, they've probably over-extended themselves. And if it goes beyond two weeks, then its obviously more serious than a fucking flu, isn't it?
  6. Oh look, i've no doubt there are many industries that are legitimately hurting. One of my friends owns a food truck. His bookings for the next 6 months have just been completely canned, and there are big question marks over the deposits paid to some of these venues, and whether those venues will issue refunds of the "non-refundable" deposits. So I get it. There are legitimate industries in pain. But there will also be the cop outs. Like the events advertised with 4 weeks until date of event, that expect to sell out in 2 weeks, and don't, at venues that say the state government health advice means they can continue trading. Like citing the collapse of a major airline, a coronavirus, and terrorist attacks for the collapse of a poorly managed theme park that was showing signs of that poor management well before any of those events occurred. This outbreak will devastate many industries. It will also provide scapegoats to many others that find it a convenient excuse. It is both.
  7. Coronavirus is a very convenient excuse for a lot of things right now.
  8. Id rather statistics convey the reality of what we're dealing with, so those who don't read or watch the news have at least some idea of why these steps are necessary, as opposed to...
  9. For those who still think this is no different to the flu - https://www.bodyandsoul.com.au/health/health-news/covid19-vs-the-flu-whats-the-difference/news-story/63ca94a2ad90f19cc036eddea0607265 There are some statistics in here - Flu mortality is listed as 0.1% vs. Covid 3.5%. Transmission rates are also listed for Flu (1.3 people infected for each infected person) vs Covid (stated as "double" the flu, but could be anywhere between 2-3 - so i've used 2.6). To make it a little easier to see, i've coloured the first death in yellow. It takes 5 transmission steps for corona to kill. It takes 28 steps for the flu. The current dashboard puts the number of confirmed cases at 153,648 and the number of deaths at 5746 - but we also know that the confirmed cases is inaccurate because it doesn't count those who are awaiting test results or haven't been tested. The deaths however are a better indicator because they're usually reported a lot quicker. That puts us somewhere in the middle of step 13 or 14. We're only halfway through the steps it requires for the flu to get its first kill and there's already close to 6000 dead. If you think corona is no worse than the flu, you need to read more.
  10. Most airlines are offering fee-free change of dates, but most airlines don't publish flights more than 364 days in advance...
  11. Oh my fuck the stupid. At present, testing is by referral. You need a referral from a GP to get tested, and GP consults can be done over the phone \ facetime bulk billed by medicare. I've already discussed this, so I won't dwell the point - Covid spreads faster than the flu. It remains undetected longer than the flu. We have no mitigating strategies. We're seeing exponential growth in the number of infections, and the number of deaths, mainly due to the stupid actions of those countries who haven't locked down. Those who aren't seeing large spikes are countries that already lived through epidemics like SARS, and learned from it - singapore, thailand, etc. The only reason we're so far seeing such low numbers is because we're an island nation and we're able to more tightly control our borders. But Australia today is where Italy was 2-3 weeks ago. And they didn't lock down. and now their health system is overwhelmed. Don't be so fucking selfish. They should follow the lead of the market leaders and fucking close down. Precisely. Yeah, you said that already. Less people are going to get sick at once if less people are exposed to it. #flattenthecurve Many parks that have closed have flagged an open date, and then revised it based on latest advice. I think closing for two weeks now would be a good start. I'm pretty sure they all did.
  12. Come on! Do it for Gazza! It is his Birthday today after all!
  13. And in May 2020, if it doesn't open, it will still be true!
  14. One of these things is not like the other...
  15. I've been saying that for quite a while now... Haven't they always had speakers on the ground behind the curtains? or are you saying they've replaced those with new ones?
  16. At least they've practiced it before.
  17. Here's your morning update after trading opened... (Marker at friday 21 feb shows last trading day before inquest findings)
  18. I didn't say space jam. I said CHarlie and the chocolate factory meet Bugs and Jordan.
  19. Tell that to the residents of Wuhan. And those coaster parts.
  20. Dammit I was looking forward to watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory meet Bugs Bunny and Michael Jordan!
